While Cook isn't Jobs, I think this keynote did a lot to save himself from the fans. iOS 7 looks awesome, new Mac Pro is great, Mavericks is a step in a better direction for an already great OS. I'm happy.
The Mac Pro looks like a kick ass thermos.
T-Ho's.

I got my mac pro right here
Shit yeah!
The account lapsed iirc, though discussing this here is a poor decision.
And before someone's asshole starts spinning, this isn't piracy in any shape or form.
Interesting. I'm game. Maybe I won't destroy my phone in the process.
I've been running it my iPad. Nothing bad has happened yet.
Had to find the correct firmware but it works fine. Restored a backup and synced all the apps etc.
<3s to you, sir.
Report back with your impressions. I'm gonna put it on my phone tomorrow. Gonna lose my jailbreak :(
It's strange. I didn't realize how much I relied on the appearance of the icons (in menus, etc) until they were *gasp* different! Overall I like the cosmetic changes like moving to and from apps, interface and menus. Everything is really slick and polished feeling. It's a pretty big change from iOS 6 but it doesn't necessarily feel unnatural.
I'm just guessing, having rarely used a device running Android, that this incorporates some ideas from the competition. Which isn't a bad thing at all.
EDIT: Oh, and I wish there was an option to change the color palette for the stock icons and interface, but I guess that's never really been an option before.
The only thing I miss is the location quick toggle from the notifications menu (jailbreak)
Other than that there really isn't much reason to keep the jailbreak, unless you're a thief.
The folders appear to have unlimited space and you can HIDE THE FUCKING NEWSSTAND APP IN A FOLDER finally. I am also loving the minimalism that most every UI is moving towards. Fucking finally. I'm so sick of drop shadows, lighting with no source and textured everything I don't even.
Nested folders glitch. I hope this ends up being a feature in the final build.
HANDY. Must be glitchy because it's such a pain in the ass. Also, they don't show in the folder on the home screen.
One Games folder with Puzzle, RPG, Action, Arcade sub folders wins.
The more I use it the more I like it.
But MLB at bat not working is a giant :(
I really want to try 7 but I keep reading about a lot of glitches this early in the beta. Maybe in a few weeks I will try. I use my phone and pad way to much to jack one up until fall.
You're too late.
Check the post directly above yours.
Yup, I read it after I posted. Bummer but I will wait. Read some sweet bricked unit stories earlier. It's very few but it would totally happen to me.
Mine is bricked! But already replaced, and almost done being scammed off for $150 I rule.
Lol. See!!
After Foxconn, it's hard to believe this is a coincidence:
It's hard to find things you don't want to find.Quote:
According to a report from Reuters, the U.S.-based China Labour Watch (CLW) has discovered numerous infractions at the Taiwanese company Pegatron Corp., including forced overtime, low wages and the use of underage workers.
A report listed 86 labour rights violations - 36 unlawful and 50 ethical - across 3 Pegatron factories between March and July this year. An Apple spokesperson, Carolyn Wu, claimed that the company had no knowledge of Pegatron's illicit practices, and its own independent surveys - the most recent being in June - found no serious breaches.
I caved and got an iPad. I'm still kind of getting my head around iOS. Can you really not put your movies on the thing without converting them to MP4? That seems insane to me.
Also, what are the best apps and games that aren't on Android? I have a lot of catching up to do.
What's not to get about IOS? Simpletons like me can't even fuck it up.
Well that's just it. It's too simple. I'm kind of feeling like "where's the rest of it?" Like I can't really put a file on it unless it's something that plays in iTunes, and I'm sure there's a way around that because I know people do all kinds of shit with these things but it feels weird to me right now.
I can't remember the last time I hooked up my iPad or iPhone to iTunes and I play anything I need or want.
Yeah I don't know how to do that yet. That sort of thing isn't obvious or intuitive on iPad the way it is on Android. Hence why I said I'm still figuring it out.
What is it you are trying to do, exactly? A lot of iPad users route a lot of stuff through DropBox or whatever. I have videos on my NAS and stream them with the Remote Files app.
Tossing movies on it quickly before a trip would be a good start. Preferably without having to upload/download or transcode them.
Noob. Anything in a mkv container uses h264. I use mp4 tools to do a straight pass through without any hit to the quality.
Also, I bought an orange WHY DOESN'T IT TASTE LIKE A BANANA?
VLC should play all your movie films.
I don't mean to bitch, I'm just trying to learn. I got the thing because I wanted it. But everyone acts like iOS is so self-explanatory, but a lot of shit isn't.
I downloaded that, but what's an easy way to actually get them on the iPad since iTunes won't do it?
It really takes time I get used to, especially if you're even remotely techie. OS X is even weirder. When I switched over from Windows it took me a long time to get used to. It's so easy to use that it seems wrong.
I added LTE to my iPad. It's pretty cool.
I had LTE on mine for a month and then I called ATT to cancel and they said they'd just give it to me for free for the rest of my contract.
Time to see what I get to upgrade to next week.
Hooray?
Youtube seems to work better over LTE, but I think the iOS app just stinks.
New iPhone announcement in 6 days.
I just want iOS7. We get that on the same day right?
Supposedly. Or September 20th. I just know my brother works as a call center rep and he's not allowed to take vacation from the 10th to the 20th.
I just can't get excited about the 5S. Maybe it's that the PS4 and VR headsets are coming, but I'm going to have a really hard time dropping the money this fall. I've been playing a lot of Vita recently, which has made my iPhone basically used for reading Twitter on the shitter (does that make excrement sheets?). I suspect the 4S will remain functional for that for quite some time. Maybe they'll have some new feature that will just blow me away, but I'm not holding my breath, and I'm maybe even hoping not.
It's a phone. Unless they give it awesome battery life or make it indestructible, any improvements would be trivial.
I never make calls on mine. It is everything other than a phone. I also don't care about this announcement. Maybe something awesome will come out of it and I'll get excited. who knows
I'm more curious of IOS 7 than a newer 5.
Pretty much.
This is starting up. I'm using http://live.theverge.com/apple-iphone-5s-liveblog/
iOS 7 on 9/18
iWork apps (iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, Numbers, Keynote) free for iOS devices.
Great move.
The 5c is still $99-$199 with a contract?
wat.
I'm afraid of what the 5S will be, and I'm contract ready.
The iPhone 5C will be HUGE. My wife is already saying she wants the pink one.
Ugh, 4S is the free one now. It's still a good phone, plenty fast, but no LTE and the old connector. They really should've put the 5C at free/$99.
Release date: 9/20.
I'm gonna see what I can get at the apple store for my current phone, and if it's $200+ (Which it very well might be), I'll get the 32g Slate 5S.
I'm still not excited. I wish there was a black and gold option on the 5S in addition to the black, white and silver and white and gold. I guess I need to give this some thought over the next week, but at least I won't be buying on excited emotion this time.
So basically the 5C is just a repackaged 5 with candy colors (for girls?) and the same price drop you'd expct.
The 5S's processor sounds killer and moving to 64-bit and OGL ES 3.0 could offer some very nice gains, but the lack of a bigger screen is disappointing. I don't think the fingerprint thing is enough to really motivate upgrades. I almost feel like repackaging the 5 as something cheapy/kiddie/girly is an effort to make the 5S look better and more sophisticated by comparison, because to the average user the improvement over the 5 seems pretty invisible.
iOS7 continues to look like a huge improvement. It also seems to match the colors of the 5C.
I'm bummed about the lack of retina MBP update news.
Actually, bump that. eBay will give me $50 to sell my phone on there by 9/15, and my phone (ATT, 32g Black) is going from $250-$350 on there now.
Free upgrade imo.
I need a new phone, but neither of these new options look too appealing.
I'm trying to figure out why anybody would buy my old 4S for that amount I posted. It boggles my mind. Is no contract THAT big of a deal?
Yes. I sold my old 3GS last fall for $100!
The new phones aren't that interesting to me so ill stick with my 5. I don't care about colors. I always get a case anyways.
Bring on ios7.
I guess it's because I never even look at unlocked prices, and only what I paid for it.
Needless to say, I'm getting the box out of my closet, finding the earbuds, and throwing in my spare wall charger and putting it on eBay with the stip that I won't be shipping until 9/20.
iPhone 4S is still plenty good. It's fast, looks nice, has a sharp screen, has plenty of apps available, etc. I'm debating keeping mine around for a bit. I really do think I could use a larger screen. I like the HTC One but it's a bit of an old phone by now.
So there are two new ones? Why two?
The 5c is the 5 in a cheaper plastic case (the 5 has been discontinued). The 5s has a few bumped up parts and a fingerprint reader. That makes the 4s the free phone on contract, the 5c the "middle road" 100-200 on contract (it's going to make billions in China) and makes the 5s look more premium (especially the gold one). Apple is diversifying their bonds.
Let's party.

Also: Can I install the GM if I wasn't in the beta?
Give me links to the GM also
I'm with Chux on that last post.
I'm not positive ill upgrade just yet. Gotta sync before I ship and iTunes 11.x beta isn't out for windows
I'd rather pick up a 5c instead of the 5s tbh.
I'm holding on to my 4 vanilla until it fucking dies. I'm not sure what a fingerprint reader gets me.
The move to 64bit could also be detrimental to performance. The transition was inevitable, but just as with PCs, it's not going to be an immediate gain, especially when there isn't enough RAM to justify the added overhead of managing a 64bit address space, and little, if any, software will actually run in 64bit mode.
You better believe I'm using the fingerprint jams with my daughter who loves to click shit.
It doesn't actually store your fingerprint at all.
Also: What the FUCK at no preordering the S and having to go to the stores to get it on launch day.
What is that shit?
I think I'll make an appointment for around noon, waltz in transfer my shit and ship my old phone.
Then don't go to the tech support table.Quote:

I do what I can.
Anyone watch the video? I'm pretty sure the finger print is stored on its own chip and nothing has access to it besides the sensor obviously. I would never use it personally but I can see it being pretty amazing for people that lock their phone with a password and parents.
It stores biometric data that's derived from a sub-epidermal scan. You couldn't actually reconstruct the original scanned image using what's there, or so they would have you believe.
Probably true, and we don't even know how much RAM the 5S will have yet. I think it'll be worthwhile for high end games though and that's really the only reason we need more power anyway.
Early benchmarks look good but not mind blowing, but that's probably more a reflection of Qualcomm and Nvidia's GPU advances than Apple slowing down.
Because those stores need to be even more of a clusterfuck. Maybe they're phasing out tech support?
They have to have in-store support. But if they were smart, they'd eliminate the distinction between "Specialist" and "Genius" by giving all employees the training. That shit is easy whether it's a computer or a phone: can it be fixed by erasing? If not, take it in for service. Then move the repairs to central facilities close to the busy areas or have an off-site for that lone store in South Dakota or wherever.
Anyway, I hope Phil Schiller's friends are continually playing that, "Can't innovate anymore my ass," clip to him over and over again after this latest nonsense.
