Your Top 5 for 2007

What are your 5 most awaited games this year? My list:

1. Mass Effect - this game looks incredible, the future of the rpg. The only thing that can sink this juggernaut is if the script's as Kevin Sorbo-cheesy as it was in the trailer.

2. Virtua fighter 5 - VF4 was the best 3D fighter ever made, and a solid case can be made that it was the best fighter period. The modifications they've made to the dodge system look really interesting, can't wait to get into it.

3. Halo 3 - I would've had this higher, but I've got to admit Gears deflated my anticipation for a traditional FPS a bit. The visuals that have been shown are a bit underwhelming too. Still, I have no doubt it's going to be epic (not Epic).

4. Metroid Prime 3 - This is the only game on Wii I have any interest in. Early impressions have been good, if they knock it out of the park I might check it out.

5. Armored Core 4 - This game looks like the customization-heavy successor to VO:OT, the increased speed is a big plus and the visuals are gorgeous. Been looking forward to it for a while.


Honourable Mention:

King of Fighters XI - been hearing good things about this for a year now, hope it gets released here.

Hellgate London - honestly it looks kind of meh to me (the script in that trailer was corny as all get out), but it has the right pedigree to be something really special.

Dark Horses:

Alan Wake - left it off the list because I don't even know if it's coming out this year, alot of sites have 08 placeholder dates.

MGS4 - Same as above, not sure if it's coming out this year.

Yakuza 2 - First game didn't do so well, not sure if this'll get a release here.

Lost Odyssey - Listed for a summer relase in Japan, this may be translated by Christmas. I'll believe it when I see it, though.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms - Listed for a PS3 release late next year, I'm curious if this series will still look like it's rooted in the 32 bit era.

Any list like this that doesn't have Bioshock in it is stupid.

In no particular order: Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Forza 2, Geometry Wars 2/Mutant Storm 2

If PGR 4 comes out in 07, then replace Forza. TBH there are lots of games I could put on this list, but the only one for sure is Bioshock. You KNOW it has to be good.

Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, HALO 3, Blue Dragon. Probably in that order.

Mass Effect, Rogue Galaxy, Guitar Hero II (360), Blue Dragon, Assassin's Creed.

'07 is all about BioShock and Crysis for me.

I don't know. Adventuregamers.com has it listed as Q4 2007 at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets cancelled this year but I'm hoping it makes it.

That's the case with me, too.

I'm worried about Spore slipping to 2008. That's also the reason I left Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 off of my list - though those two would be honourable mentions and not in the top 5.

There are so many games coming out in 2007 that I'm going to want, but if I have to narrow it down to 5.

And I'm not listing Spore because it is just one of those games that I'm sure will likely be brilliant, but is so supremely ambitious that I just can't bother to actively anticipate it. It'll be here when it's here, and when that time comes, I'll play it.

Fair enough, i confess to never playing a sims game, ever, but the concepts behind spore seem so over the top amazing that im thinking there will be no way that it can be bad. heck, i have been known to spend upwards of 15 mins in city of heroes' costume creator(see my avatar for an example), just testing different combinations, so im thinking that the creature customization alone will be a selling point for me, if the game is basicly functional, it will be goty already.

Um, I dunno. I don't have a 360 or I'd think about BioShock - is it coming out for PC? I dunno if my X800 can handle it. Super Mario Galaxy looks fun, but I hated Sunshine, so I'm cautious. Super Smash Bros. Brawl should be good, but it's nothing too wild for me to get excited about. Wario Ware for the Wii should be good fun, but probably shortlived. I'm very interested in Spore - I always enjoyed the building aspect of the Sims, but couldn't stand the actual gameplay, so I'm intrigued. And of course Metal Gear Solid 4, but I don't think that's really supposed to come out in 07. Super Paper Mario could be great but I don't know much about it - I'd love a really long, deep, new 2D Mario that had a little more substance than New Super Mario Bros.

There are a lot of things I'm looking forward to playing but nothing is a real sure bet. Since I'm tight on money anyway that's probably best. The only thing I'm dead set on buying is HL2 Episode 2.

I'm mostly looking forward to DS stuff, since it's the only console I have that's still considered to be alive.

Professor Layton, Dragon Quest IX, Hotel Dusk, Tingle's Pink-colored Rupee Land, possible new FFT...Sounds good to me. Also HL2: Episode 2 and of course Team Fortress 2 will be great.

Bioshock, Mass Effect, Super Mario Galaxy etc. etc. all look great, but I'm not planning on entering the next gen of consoles for quite awhile, if ever, so can't really add them to my list.

After Saints Row, yes. GTA 4 better be impressive as hell, after that.

Yeah, it is.

I'm probably going to have to go for the 360 version, though, sadly. I'm sure it'd run kinda sorta alright on my machine as it is, but definitely not as nice as on a 360. I probably won't upgrade before it releases, either. It depends on how a potential demo might run, I guess.

It'll just be the 360 version ported to the PC like nearly every other multi-platform PC release in the last few years. You might as well go with the 360.

Yes, but nothing more than brief glimpses. Looks great so far, but too brief to say too much. They're promising big blowout in March.

1) Earth Defense Force X - Sad they didn't have time to include the flying girl, but this is going to be the number 1 co-op game of 2007.
2) Crackdown - Yeah, looks pretty weak in some areas, but it's got co-op in a massive city, so I'm down.
3) Bioshock - I'm so glad I won't have to buy a brand new PC for this. So atmospheric and creepy so far, and considering the talented hands involved, I have a lot of faith here.
4) KOF XII - Because XI was the best 2d fighter ever, and XII is promising brand new sprites, which is still hard to believe.
5) Guitar Hero II 360 - I held out over the PS2 version. Looking forward to rocking to the Toadies.

Mass Effect- Bioware games never really click with me, but I'm hopeful for this one since it seems to eschew the ass-sucking virtual dice-roll combat system for an action/FPS system.

Bioshock- I dunno. Watched a little developer walkthough and it just didn't grab me at all. I want it to be as good as everyone thinks it will, but there's a nagging feeling I have that that won't be the case.

Metroid Prime 3- I love Metroid to death, but I'm kind of burnt out on the formula for the time being, between the Primes and the Castlevanias...

Castlevania: SotN: ...although I'll gladly play through this again for some achievements.

God of War 2- I felt hosed paying $50 for a game as short as GoW when the PS2 was still a current and impressive console. Now that I've been spoiled by next-gen, it's even less appealing a prospect. Greatest Hits or bust.

FFT PSP: It's FFT! On the PSP! Oh em eff gee!

GTA4- These are fun. Saint's Row was a pale, pale imitator.

People in these boards keep crowing about Bioshock, but I'm reserving judgment until I see more of the game.

Nah, I'm in the same boat. I saw the Bioshock walkthrough, thought the visuals just looked okay for next gen, but certainly not spectacular. Watched the AI routines and thought well okay, I guess that's got a bunch of steps to it, but so what?

Might end up being the best game of all time or something, but didn't grab me either. I can't help but wonder if people are more excited by Bioshock's pedigree than what's been shown of the game itself.

I am.

I've barely seen media for Bioshock, actually, and have been pretty much intentionally avoiding it. I'm willing to be that if it's as good as Irrational's last FPS-RPG hybrid, it will probably be better than any game this year, hands down. SWAT 4 being as amazing as it was doesn't hurt my confidence, either.

I also fit that category, and I agree with Tain's apporach of avoiding information and purchasing on blind faith. I've put trust in a lot worse developers. That's for sure.

MGS4 - Part three was the best singleplayer experience last gen so I have big hopes.

Virtua Fighter 5 - I'm finally gonna get to use my &#252;ber expensive stick, I'm forsing myself on how to use one for the first time in my life. Also found a guy to play against in my town (originally from the internet lol), march can't come fast enough.

DMC4 - While not a big fan of Capcoms latest outings (haven't played Okami) I know they can deliver and hopefully they will with all the competition they got going.

Armored Core 4 - "march can't come fast enough"

Halo 3 - My back is gonna hurt from moving tv's around all the time later this year.

For the peeps who mentioned Crysis there are new videos up from CES.

Looks insane.

1) Resident Evil 5 - knowing how long it took for RE4 to come out, this probably won't be out until 2008. Maybe 2009. Don't really care that much about the Umbrella Chronicles (seems a bit too Gun Survivor-ish to me), but I might give it a chance.

2) Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - I'll probably end up getting a PS3 just for this game (even though I skipped on MPO and the PSP), even if I don't really want to. Then I'll probably buy Metal Gear Solid 4 Subsistangral: Sweet Alabama Liquid Snake Edition as well because I'm such a tool for the series.

Other than a few Nintendo DS releases (Phoenix Wright 2, Hotel Dusk), there isn't much I'm looking forward except maybe Devil May Cry 4 and Smash Bros. Melee (if I decide to get a Wii).
