Retail is an amazing job compared to the shit some people have to go through, especially compared to what goes on in some countries. Retail is also better then fast food and greasy spoon restaurants, and if you're doing it just because of school or because of circumstances beyond your control that's one thing. However, with the country we live in and the opportunities available it really is that bad if you're of any actual use whatsoever.
Hell, I flunked out of high school thanks to not doing any assignments for three years and still have yet to touch a college but I still got out of retail. I spent a year in CompUSA and Circuit City solely as a stepping stone to better jobs, and I'm really glad to be out. I'm now doing things I enjoy, working in a nice environment, have a lot of flexibility, and get paid better. And I get to post at TNL while I'm here, like right now.
