Word. Maybe some good this season after all.
I couldn't help myself and watched the "inside the episode" for this upcoming one, too.
We may get our Frey Pies.
And, of course:
"Kill the boy, Jon Snow. Kill the boy and let the man be born."
I'd love to get the other big thing he says but that's probably too hopeful.
I'm having flashbacks to people who complained about Tom Bombadil being left out.
A lot of stuff in books generally needs to be trimmed because it's often boring to watch something that works well in print. The size format allows for a lot of extra detail that doesn't actually pertain to what's going on and are just things to expand on the world without actually moving anything forward. It's fun background stuff, but we don't need to know about the last 50 years of war that took place on a field which signifies its meaning to the characters in order to convey a tense battle on-screen. It's neat, sure, but it often times bogs down whatever is happening in a visual format, as random cutaways to pointless things that have no repercussions are much harsher for pacing and a much bigger waste of time and money in a movie/TV show.
Does it really matter if your dad doesn't have Dr. Pepper if he thinks Mr. Pibb is delicious?
You don't sign up for the book when you watch an adaptation. You sign up for the adaptation. This is basic stuff.
The Godfather movie sucks because there's no mention of Lucy's big vagina.
But the television adaptation didn't shy away:

Well, he hates Mr. Pibb and knows the difference. He was expecting Dr. Pepper and they pulled the switcheroo thinking he wouldn't notice, and he was kinda pissed.
I completely agree with everything you said, and they've already cut out a TON of stuff that absolutely wasn't pertinent to the core characters. So that's not a problem AT ALL. It's when HBO takes developed characters and completely changes them up to fit their narrative instead of the creator's. I know I'm just pissing in the wind at this point, getting bent about it, but fuck it, I'm old and cranky.
Well true, but there is a certain expectation that the adaptation will at least resemble the book. If they loved it enough to adapt if for TV, it's safe to assume that they loved the same characters and same moments from the books that everybody else does, and they'd relish bringing those moments to the screen instead of just taking a steaming shit on it. I really thought the first couple seasons were stellar and I had zero complaints. Now I'm just salty about the whole thing.
Book 4 and 5 cannot be adapted faithfully. Well, it can if HBO doesn't want people to watch it.
Who cares? Dragons. There are ten dragons now. And someone opens a crate and it's full of uzi's.
