Gendry was the kid from Scrubs
Yo, shit just got REAL.
I could do without Loras shaving Renly, thanks.
There are hints in the books. The things is, the books are entirely written in character POVs and I don't believe that there are any Renly or Loras chapters.
That huge dude freaking a shit and cutting off the horses head was nuts.
I loved how The Hound instantly bowed when the king yelled at them. Best dude.
The issue with Renly and Loras is that their status (both individual sexuality and their relationship) was pretty ambiguous in the books. It changes the tone/mystery of things later on if you explicitly show that they are not only both gay, but lovers.
This was done for the female audience, obviously.
Best part of the series so far. And actual sword fighting and intrigue this episode! Ned is definitely dying before the season is up IMO. Like I said Sean Bean isn't the kind of actor to stick around. I WILL EAT MY HAT. A shame, too. They built Ned up to be some bad ass sword fighting warrior and he hasn't done dick all so far.
Why do you keep saying this?Quote:
Like I said Sean Bean isn't the kind of actor to stick around.
Also, people that try to guess the endings of movies & shows are the worst aren't they?
Sean Bean is not above remaining the lead in a high-profile HBO series. Very few actors are.
Maybe Ned dies but I have no clue why you keep defaulting to it based on Sean Bean's acting caliber
I don't get it. Where does Drewbacca get this idea that Sean Bean is some HUGE movie star that can't stay on a TV show?
Drewbacca is basically acting like a cunt. A quick Google can tell you which characters will die and when so stop acting like you are some fucking Nostradamus if a prediction of yours comes true. The source material was written fifteen years ago you fucking retard
I've taken to just telling people that do this that they're right, regardless of if they actually are or not. It usually shuts them up.Because Sean Bean has to go film the cops-and-robbers remake of Peter Pan and the soccer team remake of Seven Samurai which makes him too cool for this series.Quote:

p.s. I still believe he was chosen for a role that wouldn't last to get "big name" recognition to the series, but only restated it because it got Firstblood's panties in a twist. And yours, as a bonus. When/if he dies I will come in and gloat how right I was.
please don't. No one cares.
Seriously, no one cares if you're right. We all just care about how we know you're wrong about Sean Bean being a "big name" and yet you keep carrying on about it.
Time will tell.
Time will tell about Sean Bean being a big name? You have big hopes for the Peter Pan reboot
Too big to commit to a television series epic like Game of Thrones for long term.
You're retarded. Look at the leads on other HBO shows: Steve Buscemi, Anna Paquin, Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifinaks, Ted Danson, Thomas Jane, Danny McBride
Know what they all have in common? Bigger names than Sean Bean
Time will tell.
Fuck you.
I'm going to cry so hard when Viserys dies
I'm developing a real attachment to him.
This just in: Women don't make sense sometimes
 really?
This reminds me of people talking about spoilers in the LotR movies.
Cunts.
Oh great, HBO made Cox send me a letter.
Sorry HBO, for torrenting a show (that I was guaranteed to buy the DVDs of), simply because you provide no way of paying just for your content, even with your ignorantly-designed streaming service. I like your programming, but I will not pay for an entire cable package along with your subscription just to get one channel.
I like tapioca pudding.
There's your problem.
Horses are SOOOOOOO pretty, you just don't understand!
I take it all back, delete your posts above this cause I think we can't talk about this.
PM me.
oh my god. best tumblr ever.
god damn golden crown
Yeah, that was awesome.
Really though, she didn't get burned when she touched the crazy egg, so does that mean if the same thing happened to her she would have lived? Maybe don't answer this anyone if you really know the answer
I'm pretty sure that was the whole point and why she let it happen because she believed she's the true successor or dragon or whatever.
Ya know what would be nice instead of the ASOIAF RTS we're getting?
The Adventures of Sandor Clegane, The Witcher 2-style.
I agree with that.
As far as Viserys goes, goodnight, sweet prince. :(
Anyone watch Episode 7 on HBO Go yet? Actually manages to be more insane.
I just watched it. I know a lot of stuff happened, but it wasn't very dramatic. I don't know, it was just very anticlimactic on a bunch of points. Still good, but every episode before it somehow managed to feel more epic even though less big change happened in them.
EDIT: Well , to be fair the last 15 minutes was actually pure epic.
I'd love to see Mark Addy hunt down and kill something....with a spear....on foot.
Dragon's don't get burned, according to their legend. And she didn't get burned when she put the dragon egg on ash and touched it once it was sweltering. It's pretty clear she wants the Dothrake to be her new army by the way she's learning to love her husband and their customs. Her brother represented her old family and the Dothrake people her new family. That execution was epic! That king has lived up to his reputation.
This week's episode was amazing. I'm glad we're getting over the establishment phase and getting in to some of the awesome stuff. I want to see The Mountain fuck people up next, though.
So that episode ended well. The series has gotten much better. If they run out of material before the author is finished his books will they just make it up on their own? That would be awesome.
Most likely, though they have at least 4 more years before that would be necessary. Much of the reason it has taken so long is that Martin wrote himself into a corner that he has now gotten out of, so I would imagine the next books will come quicker. He apparently already started on #6.
Probably not.Quote:
That would be awesome.
I hear all the good stuff comes after this initial set up run.
I want to believe.
A bunch of chapters from the next book got pushed to the one after that. Still, 2015 at earliest
They have like 5 seasons to go before that so here's hoping. Whatever. With the series on him he'll hopefully get a fire under his ass and start finishing shit if he doesn't want Hollywood wrapping up his epic for him. I like the anarchy the series is falling in to. Once Agent 006 inevitably bites it and leaves to fulfill his big movie star roles some of the other characters can step in. I like Daenarys and Drogo right now a lot - John Snow, Tyrion and Arya are awesome too.
I think they'll split book 3 into two seasons. It's too big for a single season
GRRM will robert jordan this series.
the ball is starting to roll now
This show is like a Mars Volta song, it's just building and building and if I don't see some giants or dragons soon I'm gonna lose it.
Fuck that.
They just keep talking about how they're coming; if they didn't reference the giants on the other side of the wall every episode I wouldn't be wanting it so badly.
I'm pretty sure you're supposed to take all of that as people spouting random superstitions.
I don't know, could be.
On the one hand though there's actual dragon eggs and those people coming from the other side of the wall are all magic and crazy. I don't even know what to expect anymore, this series is doing a fantastic job of genuinely surprising me almost every episode.
Think of it as something like Final Fantasy Tactics first half or Tactics Ogre first half. There might be some supernatural stuff mixed in but the real meat of the story is the intrigue going on with all the royals. The supernatural stuff is more of a background type thing, it exists and there's a threat of something big coming in the future but the focus is on the big things going on with the king succession.
Make no mistake, I totally love this show and it is perfect so far, but when you keep hearing about Giants you are excited to maybe see some Giants.
They could never show them and it'll still be basically the best show ever and it's not as if I want them over what I'm seeing now, but it's still exciting.
This is a good show. But not even the best show on TV right now, let alone ever.
I was sad to see the dance instructor get sliced and diced. I like his character - very interesting. They really cast Joffery with the right actor. He looks like such an inbred shit muncher.
I think he's a cool character as well. I like to think he might've cleared that encounter. He looked like he meant it when he said "Not today," even with that busted practice sword.
Yeah seriously, he's cast really well. King Robert, Joffrey, Arya Stark, Khal Drogo, Viserys, Jorah Mormont.. they all seem the part to me. I was a bit disappointed in the Hound and the Mountain, those characters feel like they were really toned down for the screen somehow.
I still find it a bit hard to adjust to the age of the Stark family in the show. It has a pretty big impact on the story. As written you have this 15 year old boy grappling with command of all the North... he's just a little kid, and he has to tame these grizzled veterans like Greatjon Umber, win their respect and lead them into war -- he's in way, way over his head but mans up something fierce. It's just not there when you call him 17-20 years old to begin with. Same goes for Jon Snow. He's supposed to be what, 13? I feel like a lot gets lost by arbitrarily tacking five years onto his character.
I'm really loving this show, though! It's certainly the only thing that I look forward to watching on TV.
I'd say it's easily the best show that isn't Breaking Bad.
When Anya runs off, you hear a metal sword fall to the ground, not the wooden one. I wouldn't count him out quite yet.Quote:

It's definitely meant to be ambiguous whether Syrio is dead or not. That scene is fuck awesome in the book, and was still pretty awesome in the show. It was a lot more gory in the books - using the wooden sword to kneecap dudes and poke out eyeballs and shit. The Lannister guardmen have weak spots in their armor that he exploits, but the Kingsguard guy has armor covering basically everything you so don't know how he could possibly beat him (the wooden sword doesn't get broken in the book).
Of course he could always.. you know, pick up one of the ten swords on the ground around him.
Also, I agree with Steve. This show ranks somewhere above Boardwalk Empire, and either right below Mad Men or right above it - depending on what mood I'm in.
The sword does break in the book BTW. Just checked.
"Ser Meryn advanced; Syrio backed away. He checked the next blow, spun away from the second, deflected the third.
The fourth sliced his stick in two, splintering the wood and shearing through the lead core."
We hear screaming and the big knight dude appears in the throne room at the end during Sansa's big grovelling scene. I would assume he was killed. But because we didn't see it the golden rule of film says he didn't. Maybe he escaped. I hope so. He was epic.
Kindle makes it easy! Aimmmmm
Haven't read the book(s), but the end of tonight's episode was something I didn't see coming.
heh. it was rather sudden
Shit is getting very real. Does the book, and therefor this series, end with a cliff hanger? I mean, I know it's numerous books, but it feels like we're going to be smack dab in the middle of everything when this season ends.
honestly its been so long i forget. half the shit that was going on with droga and elf bitch last night i can't recall reading at all.
That's what I suspected given the scope of what's to come and how not even close to into it we are.
They're doing this like a normals show for at least the books that are out and doing a season a year, right?
Not a cliffhanger per se (in the sense of something uncertain/mysterious), but something neat that might engender the same feelings of wanting the next episode asap.
Episode 9 was the best one yet, and I'm feeling like episode 10 will be the second best.
BTW, Episode 9's awesomeness wasn't Ned dying, it was the Tyrion scenes.
Fuck yeah. Tyrion is one of the most interesting characters in this series, maybe the most interesting. Other characters take part in more epic events but none of them are as entertaining to listen to.
The girl they got to play Tyrions' whore was an actual porn star. Sibel Kekilli
Why would I be talking to Rumpy he's not the one posting massive spoilers without the tags. They're there for a reason. You honestly don't see a problem with potentially spoiling one of the biggest events in season one (maybe THE biggest) for people browsing the thread looking for impressions? Even for a short grace period for those in other timezones?
No, I don't see a problem with it. This is a thread for discussing a TV show, and we should be able to openly discuss the episodes as they air. Catch up on the TV show before you come in to discuss it, just like I and any sensible person would. The tail does not wag the dog.
How many threads has this been discussed in? Just because a thread exists to talk about the show doesn't give you the natural right to spoil it for those who are behind. Adding spoiler tags to your shit does not hinder your ability to discuss the show. You have no say in dictating someone else's schedule for watching the show. So don't be a douche, open your brain and use them.
So where do you arbitrarily draw the line at? Should we spoiler-tag absolutely everything about the show for those waiting for the DVDs?
I just want to make sure I properly accommodate the discussion of a show for those who aren't watching it.
There is a statute of limitations. 3 days after it airs is well within that time frame. And you should err on the side of spoiler tagging over not in the first place. That's the functional reason for why they're there in the first place.
So what happens when the next person comes in to bitch that it's only been 4 days and they've been too busy to watch it?
Spoiler tagging events doesn't prevent discussion, I have no idea what the fuck Uriel's going on about.
That said, I think current media should have major events spoiler tagged. Sometimes people want to discuss something but were busy with friends or family during the last episode or whatever. Shit happens. Now, if this was a thread about the sequel and people were discussing the first season/movie/book, then people who want to see the original should know better than to stay out. If it's been a week or two after it aired then, again, whatever since that's plenty of time for most people who are interested to have seen an episode.Should we spoiler-tag absolutely everything about the books for those waiting for the show?Quote:
