Yeah. I do the same with this and Lost. A show like Supernatural is good as a one-off time killer because MOST of the time they can be contained (in some ways, they always have an over-arch). But Dexter and Lost... fuck those cliffhanger. Season 3 was weak. I still liked it, but after Ice Truck Killer and Bay Harbour Butcher it didn't live up to the hype. Sounds like Season 4's opener has.
I liked season 3 a lot.
Season 3's problem was that they tried to make the Skinner the big boss, and he just kind of sucked as a character.
Eh, he was a secondary villain. He was barely in it.
Too much secondary everything was season 3's problem. It didn't help that they killed off the only good supporting character (Doakes) in season 2.
I did still enjoy it though. But the series has been lacking an awesome serial killer to follow up the ice-truck. I wish they would have taken the guy from the second book who dismembers people but keeps them alive, sets them infront of a mirror and cuts off their eyelids. That shit is omfg crazy.
Seriously, less girl problems and more killing would have made season 3 so much better.
I feel like Showtime made the conscious decision after the first season to make the show about "OMG WATCH DEXTER DEAL WITH REGULAR PEOPLE PROBLEMS" instead of "HOLY SHIT BLOOD, oh and hey look Dexter has a girlfriend isn't that interesting?"
