I thought for sure they wouldn't puss out and finally let Deborah find out Dexter's secret. This season wasn't as bad as season 3 (no super ninja Dexter for the most part). They had a really good chance to come out swinging with such a strong finale last year and take the show in a new, exciting direction. How is it that serial killing has become so mundane? dave is ok nailed it - because they do it the same every year. When Dexter killed the wrong guy last season that was a good twist. The Trinity Killer was a good villain because he was so absurd (the daughter subplot can suck a big one, though). But in the end they wrapped up season 4 the same as all the others. They should have let Trinity get away.
So basically this season did nothing that bad. But you could skip the entire thing and you wouldn't miss anything.
You would miss some CRUCIAL LaGuerta and Angel relationship drama.
Lumen is worse than anything that has ever happened on this show before, including LE PASSIONE DE LAGUERTE Y AN-HELLQuote:

God damn, they took every easy way out at the end. That was one of the most disappointing season finales I can remember in a long time.
