You can do it by vocalizing while taking air into your lungs - instead of the normal way. But yes, it was even gay back in the DM golden years.

That is the intended affect, but this (shitty) band is taking the cop-out approach by using a pitch-shifter to modify what would otherwise be fairly standard grunts/growls, so for the most part, the vocal performance--like the rest of the music--only comes across as laughably bad.

I've actually been to a mormon dance before...

It was lame, but there wasn't any death metal.
