Ok, so I enrolled in the Keep the Change program at my bank.
Here's what you need to play:
- a checking account: free with Direct deposit
- Regualr savings account: $100 deposit to start, free with 1 deposit of $25 or more a month
- a check card: free with checking account
The Rules
- When you make a purchase with your card, they round it up to the dollar and put the change in your savings account (i.e. coffee , - $2.00 from checking = $1.08 to Starbucks + 92¢ to savings).
- For the first three months BOA matches 100% of the change up to $250 (after that it's 5%).
- On the Anniversary of your enrollment, you collect the BOA match (as well as your own money that you've dumped in there)
Doc's got some money to burn!! $250 / 90 days = $2.78 a day in change.
Here's my strategy: eat 99¢ menu shit ($1.07 or $1.08 after tax) and pump gas in $3.01 increments. I was doing $1.01 increments until this morning, I discovered you can only use a credit/check chard twice at the same gas station per day (some fraud prevention and may only be Texas).
