Good point.
Late to the party here but I also came here during the GameGO! migration and post from time to time. It does seem somewhat slower here, but it's all good.
I hated when we moved comic books out of sound off, and so now I never post on the comics board and by extension, I never check out the Sound off board.
I never cared much for TNL...
Considering where you posted this, I find it a highly dubious statement.Quote:

I say we bring back the MMC in celebration.

The MMC was some of the most fun I have had on this forum.
That and when I had that "Icepick" dupe account.
Wow, a mention on the first page -- misspelled to boot, just like old times. I hope you're doing well, Rtificial.
I haven't posted here in forever. I just happened to be playing Heavy Weapon tonight and came across someone with the gamertag 'TNL Nick' and I knew exactly who it was, so I sent him a message and that's what spurred this post.
I view the forum from time to time, but just don't post anymore. School, different hobbies, and other shit just take up all of my time these days. I sold all of my video game goodies to various board members on here some years ago. Fast forward some time, and my father passes away. My entire world is turned upside down and I have to grow up very fast. A whole bunch of real world problems, emotions, and situations come about and have to be dealt with.
Just last year, my girlfriend (we have been on-again, off-again for years, even while I still came here regularly, but we just had our first ever official 1 year anniversary last week) got an Xbox 360 for me and I play that. My gaming time is usually spent playing XBLA games and waiting for the next great game to come out (currently waiting for Crackdown). As opposed to having over 100 games each for Saturn and DC, I now have less than 10 Xbox 360 games and sell the ones I don't play.
My life, like many others, is much different than it used to be. Free time isn't spent playing games for hours on end. Many of us have all grown up here together, in a sense. The aforementioned losing interest in games and personal stuff is what mostly got in the way of posting here.
Shouts to BioMechanic, Ichabod, Mode7, Rtificlal, sleeveboy, and everyone else who might remember me. I'm thinking about sticking around -- at least for the time being -- if anybody feels like it, go ahead and send me a message, I would like to stay in touch as much as possible.
Good. Stay.
Funny that you mention Mode7, though.
I came to TNL via a Googling GameGo sometime around 2004, I guess. I liked the atmosphere, posters, etc. I got banned for being a dumbass. I came back sort of by accident, I was looking up something about my Dad, and yet again Google brought me here. I'm surprised I wasn't banned permanently. My only real interest here now are Gaming Discussion and Trade Depot.
Your Dad's Nick?!
You were given a permanent ban, but I overturned it. Who's your dad, now?Quote:

It's only gay if I jerk off to it.
Welcome back Ruhtzee, good to see you're doing well, I was kinda worried about you for the longest heh. You just dropped off from the internet period.
Haha -- that sounds interesting. What'd I miss?
Thanks for the welcome backs.
Rtificial - Yea, I did kind of disappear. 2005 was a horrible year for me. But now I couldn't be happier. I'm living with the woman I love, goto school for something I love, and generally have no real worries. Life's good. What have you been up to?
I saw that Ichabod was posting here not too long ago. I gotta get in touch with that dude.
Good to hear your doing well ruh, welcome back.
Welcome back. YOu probably don't know me, since I was a lurker for the longest of time. But you missed a shitload. Diff-X left again. TNL has a wiki page. Maruchan shows up when ever D_N_G makes a funeral thread for him. All bans were lifted last September and then TNL has never been the same (read:gone to shit). Gohron showed his meat member and ballsak. Josh keeps getting banned ... TNL cries. TNL had two NY get togethers and it fucking rocked the house. Other than that not much.
Funniest thing you said in a while Andrew. Good show. PLus that was a major Burn on Razor. +10.
!!!! It's the ruhz! Awesome!
Great to see you rematerialize! Really happy to hear things are going ace for you (what're you studying?), and my condolences about your father.
I'd bailed for a while too, focusing on real life stuff, but this place just has this way of drawing you back. I'm in my second semester of grad school studying information science (which is a lot less spectacular than it sounds, believe me), and the wife & I had our 11-yr anniversary last week. Time flies, eh? Still living in L.A. but once I graduate we're planning to move - not sure where; depends on the job market, but definitely out of SoCal. I don't game that much anymore (maybe 2-3 hrs a week) but right now it's all about Ridge Racer 6 until Burnout Dominator hits next month. So yeah, things are pretty good in the BioSphere.
Hope to see you around! :)
eff that.
Also, we've had more than two get-togethers, Fish.
You guys are just homophobes.
No. You're just a homo.
HEY! I saw you posting around in some other threads and was hoping to run into you.
That's great about your anniversary -- definitely something the missus and I aspire to. Congratulations to you guys! What date is your anniversary on? Ours is the 9th. My lady's graduating with a nursing degree this May. I'm so proud of her. I am going to school for a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at the International Academy of Design and Technology (that's a mouthful). Once I'm done with this, we'll be moving even further south in FL, closer to her parents and a majority of her family.
I couldn't get into RR6. I bought the game super-cheap and I love every RR aside from 5. Maybe I just need to give it a better chance. Right now I'm just crapping my pants waiting for Crackdown.
I'll be keeping in touch. What's your gamertag?
woooooooo! Crackdooooooooooown!
Oh make no mistake, as a Gamego person who migrated over with Nick and others (Josh was 88mph over there right?), we completely ruined the civility of this site. The funny thing is none of us over at Gamego were this cruel and evil before the migration.
Cept for Stibs.
Also Gotnext is what TNL used to be like before we came and ruined (saved) it.
Also, seriously if you can't take trolling go to game age or something, proper trolling may have been invented on Radiohead websites, but it was perfected here.
So be proud of it.
I missed Ruhztee.
Like most people here, I migrated from GameGo way back when and somehow made a place for myself here despite being the least active poster on these boards, save for SonofCD and many of our other more well known lurkers.
I'll fluxuate periodically between posting constantly in every thread I see to posting practically nothing and flitting around like a shadow on the wall, but I can't seem to see myself to leaving this place for any reason save for the site getting shut down.
You guys have become this wierd cyber-family that I can't seem to get away from.
Mode7 got sucked into WOW, and instead of posting skillful shmup videos, he'd post videos of him destroying everyone as a priest. He was pretty popular in that 8 million person community for a while.
What ever happened to quinn fox, I enjoyed his remixes and pso sounding music.
I've never left TNL. I came here a little after the GameGO exodus, but I honestly like TNL more than GG or any other board I've posted on. The people here are a little older, more intelligent, and more knoweldgable than elsewhere, but they have enough of a sense of humor to keep it interesting, too.
I've never felt the need to find a surrogate TNL. There really isn't one. For as involved as I am with GotNext's content end, the board has always been shit, and I can count the posts I've made there on my fingers. I never went to Neomega or any of the other stupid offshoots Lucas Barton would try to show me either.
With some obvious exceptions, the idiot ratio around here is really very low, and it's easy to get good discussions going. I can't bitch, honestly. It's been my homepage for 5 years now, and I don't see that changing any time soon.
I found TNL in 2002 from a normal web search for video game forums (I didn't know what GameGo was). What was great about this site was the dicussions and opinions on games - honest opinions from users that actually played the games (unlike many review sites). While many had very strong opinions, the level of trolling and fanboy-ism didn't seem that overwhelming. Any game that was due out shortly or recently released had a very active thread. I don't see as many of those now. I'm not sure if it's because certain posters are no longer as active or just fewer games warrant discussion.
I don't remember the board being that hard on new posters back then (at least it didn't seem like it to me). If you came in "with a chip on your shoulder" then you got it good (and probably deserved it).
The online community here was also excellent. As stated by someone esle above, many of the people on my XBox Live friends list were from here. When PGR first came out, a group from here would get online and we would race for hours. The World of Warcraft guild here was also quite active and a lot of fun. I created a couple of characters and joined the guild for a short time (someone here also loaned me a small amount of gold to help get move my character along - which they did not have to do and most appreciated).
During the winter months I spend far more time here because I game more (in Syracuse you need something to do inside during the winter months). Once summer comes, most nights are occupied by golf, softball or coaching my kids sports teams. During those months, I find I may stop in to check the posts for new game recommendations and that's about it. I frequent many forums - mostly metal, gaming, golf and sports-related ones - and I wouldn't call any of them a "central one" for me.
I will say this site does feel a bit different today than it did some time ago. I can't put a finger on why, but I'm sure the subtraction of some users has added to that. I still feel this is the best gaming related discussion board I have visited.
Before I am banned. Check "Your Attention please" and the FC thread's as to why the boards are slow now. The pics that Josh, DNG , and G0zen posted were not bad at all, but they are banned now. Myself, Gohron, and Doc probably will as well for the pics we displayed in the DNL <3's AFX thread.
I just used random.org to pick the God of War II winners. (I decided to give away two copies a while ago.) The first winner selected was arjue and the second was gir. I saved the list, so if one or both prizes remains unclaimed, I'll pick again.
Now, I gotta run. 300 awaits! Seems like a theme day, eh?
Mods can win? Fixed.
Back in '04 I was getting fed up with games. Started browsing TNL less, sold $4000 of my game collection to put a down payment on a car. Started traveling extensively, going out with friends more and got a girlfriend. The internet/sitting in front of a TV just got boring, it was the best thing I ever did.
The NDS slowly sucked me back to gaming but I definitely take it more casually and try to limit the time I spend on message boards and browsing the web. *-neo
LOL SUCKERS.
You don't have to give serious responses anymore. The contest is over.
I come to the forums to mainly read snippets of information on newer games or pan around Sound Off to read some of the more interesting topics.
As far as how long I've been here..Jesus I think I'm the only original mod left on this site since before Bahn left and created his own forums. This was when Gamefan Online still existed and I was able to actually chat wtih Shidoshi in IRC for the 1st time.
A lot of you guys here crack me up so I really never have had any issues with anyone. TNL is a small corner of the net where I find you can escape the retarded fanboyism and get some honest feedback from people about games or any general subject.
Anyways I'm back to being the quiet moderator again...

high five BK
damn man
he taste it
holy shit
and its smiling
How the hell did I miss this thread?
Anyhow, I migrated from Gamego. I used to mostly lurk because, like others, I thought it retarded to post the same stuff that someone else already stated. That sentence proves I don't think that anymore. While I occasionally check out Atari Age, this has always been my home forum.
I've tried to get others to join; however only one person has had thick enough skin to be able to stick around.
The only problems I see is that we are all older and have less time/desire for videogames. Also, there are fewer new games to discuss. I don't care for sports games. That eliminates more than half of the games available for the PS3 and 360. I don't care for licensed kids games. That eliminates 90% of the Wii library. When there is more stuff actually worth talking about, I'm sure the gaming forum will pick up.
That elephant needs to see a doctor or something.
Man, JesusC isn't that fat.
