I don't know if this is true, but both games came out right around the time Treasure come on the scene. I always figured that they were both products started by the brains behind Treasure, finished up by monkeys, and shoved out the door.
To this day, I laugh at the sound effect of the doors opening in the Nazi factory level.

But it still seems logical, and who knows what to beleive.
As much as I like the Castlevania I went the way of Shinobi 3.
That order is correct if you're thinking of the Genesis Shadow Dancer. The arcade Shadow Dancer is different, and came out before Revenge, I'm pretty sure. Plus there's Alex Kidd in Shinobi World, The Cyber Shinobi, and the Game Gear games but I don't consider those part of the main series.
Treasure formed in late 1992. Both of those games were made well after they left.No. The main series is just Shinobi and then arcade Shadow Dancer. Revenge and Shinobi III are the "Super Shinobi" series, and not part of the main series.
