I'm not referring to that. I like the design of the cannon. I agree that using manual in more stable conditions is ideal. I'm just saying for a concert where the lighting is hardly ever the same, it is more advantageous to use a setting like Aperture mode. Today's cameras can meter pretty damn well, and rather than taking time to change manually or trying to figure out the best settings, using a mode that will use 1/60 when it has to and 1/125 when it can and only having to push the shutter button to do so allows for more pictures at the optimal setting.

Those shots are pretty crisp for 1600 ISO. I'll have to start shooting raw in low light.

It's hard, almost impossible, to adjust manually for a show where the light direction and intensity values are changing so rapidly. The shots you took came out very very well. And that's all the proof you need that it was the right decision.

RAW is awesome. Simply put, it can be a lifesaver. Whether you mess up, or just had to shoot under extremely difficult situations, there is always a chance that because you shot in RAW you can fix it, or at the very least make it manageable.

Thanks. I was very happy with the pictures, and actually amazed that they were able to turn out so well. There is another show coming up in early November that I am going to try and shoot as well. Taking what I learned from this last shoot, hopefully the next batch will come out even better.

This is my solution to low light. It's a fixed zoom, so it's good for portraits and parties, not so much for bird watching.

I eventually need to get a lens like that. The next 2 lenses I plan on getting are the 24-70 f2.8L and the 16-35 f2.8L. Expensive as all hell though, so it will be a while before I get both of these and even longer before I get a fixed wide f1.4 or f1.8.

Did some minor touchups and left them at a higher res.

The 4th photo of the red rocks might have been better without a subject int hem. The geometry of the rocks playing off the shadow looks really sharp in it.
