My 3 month probation is almost up and I can get my vacation time (3 weeks). Me and my girlfriend have been thinking of some places:
- Hawaii (went to Oahu but want to try other islands)
- Italy/Spain
- England/France
- Philippines (visit her family)
- China
- Japan
Suggestions, comments and whens the best time to go? I wouldnt mind Japan to see all these high-tech stuff. Maybe meet up with some TNLers?
Go to Italy. It's the best place ever.
Buy drugs and do a roadtrip in a VW.

Hawaii, just because I'm going there on my honeymoon in 2 1/2 months. Go to Maui and try the place listed #1 on tripadvisor for Maui. Sounds awesome; we'd go there if the place had room service for our lazy asses. Or you can go where we're going, Maui Prince Hotel, which does have room service.
My ex co-worker went to Italy on her honeymoon during the Fall and loved every minute of it. She liked Venice, but she went to the outer regions aka Tuscani and loved the wine tasting areas.
She absolutely loved Rome.

My gf had been going to Kauai for the last 10 years and we found tons of awesome little known places. That book will help you get the most out of any Hawaii vacation, it's indispensable.
You need to choose what you're looking for in a vacation to pick. If you want to relax, go to Hawaii. If you want to see the world, go to Europe. IMO, you shouldn't relax until you see the world first. Everyone needs to go to Europe at least once in their lives.

Last month I took a week in Rome, I have to agree; you can't go wrong with Rome.
A week is enough for Europe? We were thinking 2 weeks for Europe or Asia. Fall is a bad time since my gf works for GHI, fall is the busy season for them since they have things for government, federal and city employees

I always like to do as much as i can on vacation, and I usually get home more tired than when I left. You'll have to think about how hectic you want your time there to be when deciding which and how many places to go to.
If you plan on using hostels make sure you research before hand. Some will require a reservation, others will just take people first come first serve, in which case you need to be there early to guarantee a spot. I got stuck having to use an expensive hotel one night.
