That's seriously the best you could come up with, the masses are idiots argument? Even Yoshi came up with a better response.

I thought that trailer looked neat. But after B-Ri's last few posts, I refuse to buy this game.
If enough people do the same, maybe Sony will take him off their payroll and he'll stop being a blathering idiot.
Maybe you do.Quote:

combat looks much improved
I've suddenly become very interested in this game.
You always had great taste so it was inevitable.
Looks kinda Gears of Warish. Actually looks pretty good.
Heh. No I mean, the combat, it looks similar to Gears. Get behind a rock, shoot, etc. Not automatically a bad thing. I am very interested in this game, I have been since it was first announced. It's the game that might justify the purchase of a ps3. Especially now that the price has dropped, it might be time to take a trip down to the states to spend my mighty dollar.
PALGN: Is it disappointing to see other developers work on Crash Bandicoot?
EW: Yes, a little bit. It's, I don't know if you want to quote me on this, It's a little bit like watching your daughter do porn.

LOL, great quote.
PSN is gonna die on thursday confirmed.
I'm really looking forward to this demo. That last video you posted really impressed me, the action really does look a million times better. Hopefully the demo gives me that impression.
You're doing it while not actually under cover, right? Stand away from the wall as though you would just be walking around and do it.
Here's a couple shots I just took. The first one is Drake standing behind a wall facing it. He obviously has no way to hit anything directly in front of him.
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/a...1&d=1194655368
All I did was press the aim button. By simply raising his hands and not moving any other part of his body, he's now able to shoot the boxes that were completely behind the wall as well as anyone darting between those pillars that were also obscured. You'll notice the guard that was standing in the middle of the first screen is now a dead body on the right side of the second screen. BIBLE MAGIC!
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/a...1&d=1194655368
I bet that never gets fixed
i just tried it, he actually takes a step back, then again im doing it at a different section of the map, lets see
Wow, that's really awful. How didn't they catch that?
why the fuck are we discussing Drake in its own thread?
I thought that was what the playstation 3 thread was for.
A step back is not going to reassemble the physical world. Boxes that were 100% BEHIND the wall are now mostly in view, he would have to walk a couple feet to the right to accomplish that. Try just hitting the aim button a couple times real quick without letting him get all the way into position, you'll notice all he does is raise his arms without actually going anywhere.I hope it doesn't, because this POV glitch works a lot better than the cover system they programmed.Quote:

i didnt say it was JUST that wall, what i ment by it is i found the wall you were showing and saw what you ment. he does seem to take a step back and move to the side a bit, but yeah not enough to do what its doing.
Whats wrong with the cover system though? i hear complaints about it but from what i see it works jsut fine
for J2D and any other non US peoples:
the demo has been updated, works in all regions.
Sorry. It's just not very good. You're safe while behind it but there's very little offensive options since the game doesn't remember your aiming plus the precision needed means that you can't pop out and fire immediately. It's so much more effective to walk around behind cover while aiming instead of attaching yourself to walls that I don't see why anyone would ever use it. GoW didn't have those issues thanks to a larger reticule spread, aim memory, and you could still aim to some extent while hiding. I mean, it's nice that Uncharted has cover and all but it's very tacked on and unfinished.Quote:

I think the game needs a couple more months of work to be amazing. It's pretty good right now, the demo makes me feel it'll be a solid 8/10 overall, but with a little more effort it could be something really special. But there's always the sequel, right? And who knows, maybe there's more stuff in the full game I don't know about yet that's awesome and makes me love it to death.
Finally tried out the demo...I think this will be my 2nd PS3 game. :D
well yeah like you said its just that level, there will be more things to cover around maybe itll prove itself useful in different situations. I dunno about TACKED ON cover system but it works fine for me popping from one cover to the other, over, ect.
I personally feel it works great, i can pop out and cover somewhere else, and i REALLY love that you can climb on walls and shoot over them. I personally cant wait, lets see how gold release compares.
The game felt fun and looks promising. A lot of it felt like Tomb Raider: anniversary in regards the environmental puzzles of figuring out where to go.
The real question is if this will be fun stretched out over an entire game. I for one hope that the full retail release is a little more varied in the gameplay department.
Played through the demo, it was alot of fun. I will put it on my birthday wishlist and hope someone get it for me! :)
Definitely enjoyed the demo. Nice fun action, and characters finally dont look as plastiky as they did in all the screenshots and videos before.
http://stage6.divx.com/user/dfyb/vid...und-in-a-hurry
quick runthrough of the demo in easy mode, for those who havent had the chance or cant.
I finally got around to checking out the demo and, despite liking the character and overall feel, didn't really care too much. It just felt like another run & gun action shooter relying on duck & cover tactics with a tiny bit of Tomb Raider pasted on top. Nice animation when it wasn't glitching out, but hardly enough to warrant a $60 purchase.
James
Yeah, goddamn, and I thought this was going to be the game to finally start off my PS3 collection. I'm thinking I'll wait for a price drop what with all the other great stuff coming out within the next couple months.
Yea checked it out yesterday. I've been playing a lot of Gears lately so something about Uncharted didn't exactly click with me, felt to loose in the movement maybe(no problem shooting though). Could also be because I've been using the 360 controller mainly for the past two months as well. Looking forward to the full release still, I love me some jungle.
lol @ B-Ri attacking the rational opinion of an informed and unbiased party
Well after several hours and two DL's (which included some error message during the install the first time I DL'ed it) I finally was able to play the demo, which I thought was great. Sure, it's not groundbreaking and it's stuff we've played before in other games, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Visually, the game looks fantastic. Little details like Drake being visibly completely drenched after going under the waterfall are awesome. I'll definitely be purchasing this next week.
9.5 Presentation
The whole thing has the polish of a major motion picture and goes out of its way to immerse you in the experience with amazing cutscenes, music and more.
9.0 Graphics
There's no doubt the game looks great and that the use of in-game assets for the movies is seamless transition, but there's still a fair amount of screen tearing and texture pop in.
9.5 Sound
From the low instrumental piece accompanying the opening screen to the sweeping score that runs throughout the whole game, this is what videogame music should be.
9.0 Gameplay
This game is flat-out fun to play. Leaping from ledges is awesome, shootouts are fun, and the occasional vehicle section is a nice change of pace. Still, the pirate battles can be a bit much.
8.5 Lasting Appeal
The game is short, but the medals, rewards and bonuses should be enough to bring you back at least once.
9.1 OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/834/834931p1.html
apparently its 8-10 hour game, more if you go for the extras, with branching paths, and lots of things to find and collect (it also has home trophys, but its not out yet)
I thought it was kind of funny how the playstation blog linked to the ign review: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/...-first-review/
And if you watch that video review on IGN the first thing the guy says is "BUY THIS GAME." What kind of review is that?
So picked this up today...I loved the demo so I thought I'd give this a chance. Needless to say I'm loving it so far...Gears of War meets Tomb Raider IMO. The game world looks beautiful, having taken many moments just to admire the scenery. There is also a quasi-Achievement system for finding treasure, killing amount/technique, etc.
I guarantee those are hooks that will open up "achievements" as soon as Home launches.
Has anyone seen this anywhere buy GS/EB? I'm hoping Best Buy will have it tomorrow so I can use the 10% off coupons this weekend.
i just got mine at gamestop.
Woah, I thought this wasn't out till next week! Too bad the Circuit City by me completely blows (I have a gift card there)...
im loving the game so far. That first temple was neat.
Well, I'll be looking for a copy of this over the weekend as well.
This is really great. The production values are super high.
It's Naughty Dog. That's how they roll.
I am on chapter 6 and this game is seriously good stuff. My friend andrew came over before we left to redondo and was playing it, he forgot i had SMG and wanted to play it before he came over. Buzzed, off to the drunk thread.
I liked the demo, but I hate the idea of paying $60 for such a short game. Seems more like a rental.
uncharted achievements will unlock when home releases
uncharted DLC in the works as they work on the sequel
http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/11/18/...opportunities/
There's a noticeable amount of screen tearing and inconsistent framerate but overall the game is gorgeous and plays very well. I will have to agree with the comparsions to Gears/RE4/Tomb Raider.
The satisfying gameplay makes me think this will have some decent replay value, especially if there are worthwhile unlockables but I'll always welcome more DLC.
I decided to take a break from Mario to play this. 4 hours later, I think I'm going to make Mario wait until I finish this. This might be the best example of my favorite genre this generation.
I just finished playing this for six straight hours. I beat it on normal but only got 18/60 treasures and 270/1000 medal points.
Anyone who has a PS3 and doesn't buy this is a dumb fuck. The demo was one of the worst parts of the game it turns out, which isn't too bright on ND's part.
Uncharted took Mario's best shot and then knocked the little pussy out.
I'm constantly scouring areas for glistening treasure before I move on to the next.
ive been taking this game VERY slow since i was on "vacation" over the weekend, just finished chapter 6 and ahh i love it. Hard difficulty is the way to go, and ive already got the 100 headshot medal, i dont know why so many people were having problems landing any.
Yeah, I had the 100 headshots early as well. I'm awful at the melee combat. I just can't get the timing right since I don't do it often enough.
yeah usually melee is my last resort, so i am just mashing to kill the fucker before his buddies shoot me down.
zomg i got 2 more games though, what to play!!!
The cover system in Uncharted is actually better than Gears of War. I just don't think the demo did a good job of showing what the game was all about.
The only reason ME's cover system seems better is because you are given more protection than you should when under cover in ME. You can blast away at an enemie in ME but if they are leaning in cover they will not take damage. In Drake the physical are of the cover is what protects you. Also, the enemies are actually smart & will flank you and compromise your cover.
I just finished it too, on normal. Excellent game, enough to fully take me away from Mario, CoD4, and Halo 3. Once I finish Mario, I'm coming back for more. :D
I already explained this, read it again. To reiterate: Uncharted's cover system only gives good defense while having no offensive options. It's great for hiding but if you want to actually kill any of your enemies it's all but useless since the game doesn't allow you to aim from cover nor retain aiming memory.
I didn't say it doesn't protect you, the point is that just walking behind things provides the same amount of cover. The entire reason one has a cover system is so that you can pop out quickly, shoot, and then duck right away (see: kill.switch, GoW, ME). Since Uncharted has no lock-on, no way to retain aiming, and is using an analog stick it's just as safe and a much better choice offensively to just walk behind stuff for protection and then strafe out as you need to fire.
I was loling about ME because it has aiming from behind cover and target memory which Uncharted doesn't. Just struck me as funny for two games with similar styles of combat to come out at the same time, yet the group which hasn't made a shooter before does everything the company that's much more experienced in real-time combat does and more.
Its very easy to do this, you press L1 then let go of it after you shoot.the cool thing about uncharted is you CAN blind fire, use your imagination and put crosshairs in the center of the screen and aim your camera, thats how i got through the last damn chapter of the game on hard, and probably how i will get through most of it on crushing.Quote:

as for it NOT holding the same position while in and out of cover, you are absolutely wrong. You are basing that on a demo from a not yet fully complete version of the game, and you LOL at the game demo in comparison to a game that you own the gold version of.
It does exactly what a cover system should do, and it holds your aim, and you can blindfire with as much accuracy as you could expect from it.
What this game does and doesnt do is whats throwing people off. It doesnt sticky like other console FPSs or over-the-shoulders do, aim more accurately and adjust your sensitivity, this game isnt going to do the killing for you.
Secondly, these guns have recoil, which in the middle of firing will move around, along with your enemies, who will not just stand there and get shot.
The cover system isnt useless.
I was going to come in here earlier and complain that I was a little disappointed in this game...I was going to spout the same ol' tired lines about this game just being a boring cross between Tomb Raider and Gears of War...blah blah blah...
BUT DAMN this game gets really fucking good after about level 4! I really have nothing bad to say about this game now, because Naughty Dog has obviously hit another one out of the park. My only complaint with the game now is that it seems like its going by way too fast. I'm just getting a gut feeling that this will be a short but very sweet game :)
So the combat system is totally different in the full game? You should've said that in the first place instead of saying you STILL didn't understand like you did the first time we talked about it. gg. Of course, that does prove that the cover system was tacked on and unfinished like I was saying earlier.
.... how is the cover system tacked on if its the gigantic emphasis of the game? Stop playing "anything not mass effect sucks" the cover system works, and it does everything you wanted it to do, and complained that the demo didnt do (because of bugs)
If you wanna keep talking yourself out of buying it then fine, but theres absolutely nothing wrong with the game in terms of its cover system, and playability. Its a solid title.
You pissed away $60 on Halo 3. Go buy Uncharted instead of speculating based on a demo.
Because it was only half implemented in a demo that was at most a couple months old. Pretty obvious, really. The hell are you talking about? When have I ever said anything remotely like that? Sounds like someone's back in fanboy mode.Quote:

It didn't bother you guys? I almost dont wanna pan the camera around too fast because it makes me nausious.
Didn't bother me, and I do get motion sickness from FPS some times, so I am susceptible.
Finished it up and started hard right away. Despite some shortcomings this was one of the years best games. Perfect lenght and variety for me and plenty of unlockables. Music was great and I liked the characters, I thought the cutscenes was stellar, much better than Heavenly Sword imo.
If there's a sequel then I hope they just fix the blur and give weapons a little more umph to them (though later weapons were pretty good in that department). Drake not really aiming were the reticule is and swimming almost above the water are some things that break the immersion.
I don't understand why you think the coversystem in Uncharted is better than Gears though Yoshi, care to explain?
It works very similarly, but Gears' is completely unrealistic. You could aim while covered, which is ridiculous. I love Gears, but multiplayer would have been even more interesting if you had to take a risk to line up a head shot, instead of being covered and just waiting for the other guy to pop up first.
Yeah, the swimming on the surface only did kind of surprise me.
I rationalized it by assuming that he has a massively large pair of balls that keep his crotch afloat.
I played the game today 'til about the 9th chapter (got on the jet ski for a second time and called it quits). Surprisingly lame platforming from Naughty Dog, though the shooting is admittedly pretty decent. Mostly because it reminds me of Gears of War, which I like quite a bit.
It's really a lot like Tomb Raider except that it trades proficiency in platforming for good shooting mechanics (whereas Tomb Raider has good platforming but shit shooting). It's got a lot of bad parts, though, which kept me laughing throughout most of the time I played. Not a bad game, but I wouldn't pay money for it and I won't be playing any more.
Translation: MarkRyan's taste still sucks.
MarkRyan's impressions indicate I will love this game.
I give up on trying to understand MarkRyan. I simply don't understand his taste in games. It makes absolutely no sense.
On topic, I like this game. Platforming taken from my favourite 3D platformers - Prince of Persia and Tomb Raider, shooting taken from one of my favourite action games, plus Naughty Dog's usual amazing presentation skills all combine to make me want a PS3. But November has wiped out my game budget. Guess I know what I'm dropping the cash on during next year's inevitable drought.
Going up the river in the jet ski while avoiding exploding barrels and being shot at with rocket launchers is controller throwing good times.
oh jees markryan, youve now lost me with those impressions, jesus christ.
