I'm assuming you know that you can shoot the barrels well out in front of you.
Printable View
Yeah, doesn't help though when you're targeting someone with a rocket launcher and as soon as you zoom out, a barrel hits the jet ski. I made it past the part, but it was the most needlessly frustrating segment of the game.
i dont think i died once in that section and i was playing hard
ill probably die once in crushing. That was a fun level up the rapids
thank you i havent had breakfast
hopefully youll beat the section so i can give you one in return
<3
Just shooting with R1 worked fine for me on normal and hard, crushing will probably force me to aim a bit on that section though.
Pretty good game, although incredibly frustrating at times.
You, sir, are fucking CRAZY. This is the best game on the PS3!
Sounds like you are about to stop playing the game at the point that it actually gets REALLY FUCKING GOOD too. Plus, if you don't play the last five levels you are missing out, and you have no idea what the game is capable of.
EDIT - And Schlep, those Jet Ski sections are BY FAR the easiest portions of the game. How the hell did you die?
Skill.
If you only have a PS3 and need something to play, you could definitely do worse than Uncharted. But it's not a great game by any measure.
I got almost halfway through the game and it didn't grab me--I think I gave it a fair shake.Quote:

haha...are you calling me crazy now? :)
I think we're still early enough into the PS3's lifespan to see that there are a couple games that easily stand above the rest on the system. Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm, and Resistance are clearly the top tier games for the system at this moment. Sure, most of these games have their flaws but they are all a hell of a lot of fun, and there are no other PS3 exclusives that come close to being as good as those games.
Also, MarkRyan, it does seem like you gave the game a fair chance by playing through most of the first half. However, the game really does shake things up quite a bit during the second half and it makes you use a slightly different strategy to finish the game. The second half of the game also seems to go by at a lightning quick pace and it has some nice twists to the storyline. I highly recommend that you play through the entire game at least one time, especially since it only takes about 8 hours to finish.
Did you call Heavenly Sword top tier?
This looks like its going to be a losing discussion on my end, its getting late, and I'm not a Sony fan boy so I'm not going to sit here and argue with everyone about this...
However, I do stand by the fact that Uncharted is a very nice and well polished game that is a joy to play. Its obvious that this game is just a jumping off point for what will become one of the biggest franchises on the PS3, and I'm sure the sequel will top it in every way.
Also bbobb, I did indeed refer to Heavenly Sword as a top tier game. I haven't played a cinematic hack 'n slash game quite like this since Sword of the Berserk on the Dreamcast (which I also consider top tier). Its nice to see a little bit of risk taking by creating a five hour game that can be played through and thoroughly enjoyed in the course of an afternoon. We don't get enough games like Heavenly Sword these days because everybody is hell bent on creating games that are 20 plus hours long...I like the fact that Heavenly Sword does what it sets out to do very well, and it never over stays its welcome.
The main thing that bugs me about Uncharted is the same thing that bugs me about every Naughty Dog game. It comes off like it was designed by a computer algorithm that amalgamates focus group feedback rather than anyone's personal artistic vision. Particularly the main character (as it was with Crash, Jak, etc).
It just leads to their games feeling like the everygame. Some implacable mixture of every fleeting trend combined into an interactive digital yawn.
Uncharted is a nice game. I'm somewhere around Chapter 11, and I'd give it an 8.0/8.5 to this point. I wouldn't call it a great game, but it is a very good game and one worth a rental or a sub-$60 purchase.
I second magnifiedplaid's recommendation of Heavenly Sword. Definitely worth a rental and a sub-$50 purchase. This is an under-appreciated game that fell victim to its own hype, but it's a solid 7.5.
Heavenly Sword did little for me - mash mash mash. Loved the voice acting though. Sigma was the only action game worth playing for me on PS3 up to this point. A friend of mine bought Uncharted yesterday - this is a pretty damn good game! The core gamplay's basically lightweight Gears, but the platforming makes up for it, and the pretty, pretty visuals don't hurt either. I agree it probably belongs in the 8-8.5 range so far. I'm not having the problems with hand to hand that others have mentioned, seems pretty straightforward to me. All in all, I'd way rather play this than yet another fucking Tomb Raider.
If/when they make a sequel -
Fix the running animation. Looks kinda gimpy.
More exploration - for a game called Uncharted where you're lost, the game is pretty linear.
No more plucky female reporters. That might be my least favourite archetype in western storytelling.
The learning curve was too high for me (finished it of course but the customization) and after that I was just getting my ass kicked by japanese players online so I traded it. I'd be up for a sequel but Chromehounds is where it's really at.
Finished the game tonight. The game really got good towards the end, with some nice set pieces like the shootout outside the church. I liked how it was basically like running around in a 1980s adventure movie, complete with all the cliches.
I'm surprised it sold poorly, the control could've been a little tighter but this has mainstream hit written all over it. Hopefully the largely positive word of mouth generates some legs for it. Either this is or Resistance is probably the best exclusive game on PS3.
I constantly see Uncharted ads on TV. I can't imagine it selling that badly.
It had 11 days on the NPD including Black Friday, which is as much as anything ever gets to make a splash. The vast majority of game sales happen in the first week. It might pick up, but don't act like its sales are being unfairly judged.
Resistance is a unique case in that it was the flagship game the same way Halo was for the Xbox. But generally speaking nothing but Nintendo games continue to sell really well over a long period.
This game is good and I'm happy to be playing it, but I don't see where people could think it's GOTY.
B-Ri needs the Sony paycheck asap!
I got and played this game to Chapter 4. Loved it starting out all around.. until it degraded to Gears of War. It wasn't what I was looking for out of this game and the combat got pretty old pretty quick and the broken cover system was driving me insane (also I cannot aim with an analog stick, mouse plz). GoW I could tolerate, this I can't.
From where I'm at, really seems like a 75% GoW/25% Tomb Raider split, where I wanted just the opposite.
I may go back to it but for now, I'll play something else. Hearing about some sort of jet ski level and knowing it's by ND confirms it's probably best for my blood pressure to pass on this game as long as possible.
This game is a lot of shooting compared to what I expected.
My girl was watching me play and at one point she asked why I had to fight so many guys before I could continue... I told her it was because I had to unlock fun mode.
Seriously though, when you enter a small courtyard you fight like six guys, then a new wave of six more then one last final wave before moving on to the next area and repeating. At least in chapter 4. I love the platforming and exploring when you can, but I really don't care for so much shooting when the weapon selection is so small and the controls aren't nearly as refined as GoW.
This is exactly how I felt. I was really getting into the game and this took me out.
I have no idea if this is true or not, but I will slog through Chapter 4 and hope for the best. Yoshi is never wrong so I will have to believe his news.
Damn skippy.
There's a lot more shooting towards the end, but the enemies become more interesting so it's not so bad.
It's true though, at times it does feel like they were trying to make Gears of War for PS3 starring Indiana Jones. And the controls aren't as tight as Gears.
But jeez, this is a freaking 6 hour long game, just sit down and finish it. Even my casual gamer friend with spastic motor control finished that jetski part without difficulty. You guy reee-heeeaallly suck if you think it's hard enough to put down the game.
For the record I have neither found this game hard nor put it down. Also I haven't got to the jetski part yet.
I still like the game, I'm just dissapointed in what it's turned into during the chapter I'm at. Especially considering how awesome the action is when you fight just a few guys while still platforming; specifically I'm thinking of the waterfall area.
I made the mistake of playing on normal my first time through. Is that what you're doing too?
Yeah, what's wrong with normal?
Too easy. I actually beat the first jetski level on normal without shooting, because I didn't realize I could. I just used cover and made a calculated break for it to get through without killing anyone. This took several tries of course.
Slow and tedious? It's less than five minutes long. Your taste is just fucking awful once again.
Like I said, it wasn't difficulty that stopped me. When I first saw the jet ski I thought it'd be rad, but it turned out you just ride forward ten feet, stop, shoot some mines, maybe shoot through some trees in the direction of enemy bullets, drive forward another ten feet, repeat. It's so slow and boring, which is the opposite of what I expected at the sight of a jet ski. The first time I was on the jet ski I thought it was dumb, but the scene eventually ends and I got to do some on-foot stuff. Then five minutes later I had to jump back on the jet ski and at that point I was done playing the game.
....
markryan youre nuts.
QFT. Even if you didnt really enjoy the about 5 minute jet ski section, its in no way shape or form game killing, nor is it close enough to a reason to drop the game.Quote:
If you can pass the train stage in ZOE 2 without complaint, this should be dead easy for you.
Guys I know that do like the game admit that part is pretty lame. I'm not the only one that's nuts.
I wasn't enjoying the game very much before that part. I agree that the jet ski section isn't so bad that it'd make me quit playing a game I liked, but for me it was the straw that broke the camel's back.Quote:

Its sitting in your work offices, its free.99 for you to play. Its a 6-8 hour game, its not a 40 hour+ JRPG epic
play it all before knocking on it, thats the only way id take your opinion for more then a grain of salt. Right now (and in a lot of your posts lately) its been sounding like head full of hot air reviewer gone mad with power.
I played half the game and didn't like it. That's enough for me.
Also, I'm not a game reviewer and I certainly have no power with which to go mad :)
i think somebody is on Yoshi's ignore list.
My ignore list is empty.
And Yoshi would never ignore me anyway. He loves me as one of the few people that doesn't camp out on his nuts all day.
It's incredibly hard to find pants that fit with the crowd that has gathered down there.
So I'm on chapter 8 now. The combat hasn't really slowed down as much as I'd like, but the rest of the game is so damned good I'm going to stick with it.
I'm playing on normal and I could probably swing a harder difficulty if I could aim worth a fart with the analog stick.
You're welcome. ;)
I agree with everyone who says that you need to FINISH this game before you knock it. Really, the last one third of this game is what pushes it from a score of a solid 8.0 to a 9.5 IMHO.
Like everyone else has already mentioned, its a short game too. By the time you get to the Jet Ski section, the chapters seem to get a lot shorter and the gameplay opens up a little and becomes much more diverse.
finished this game yesterday :tu:
i love how it made me want to play the thing through in a single sitting. and i will credit this feeling to the excellent storytelling and presentation. the story wasnt the best, but it was like playing through an action movie that you dont want to pause
the last 1/3 of the story was the worst part for me, but fun-wise were definitely the best levels in the game. I really hate that they dragged it into supernatural territory. The el dorado mythology was cool, just wish it would have been more grounded in the end. too many games take this cop out nowadays
for a play-style summation (previously mentioned) this game is tomb raider + indiana jones + gears + james bond. and its not any of those games, it takes the best parts and makes them its own
i for one love the gears style shooting/cover, it wasnt perfect, but not having the game aim for you is a huge plus for us FPS players who like a challenge. mixing it up as a brawler once in awhile was also a blast
the only thing i would have left out gameplay wise were the push button cutscene sequences, they just didnt fit in and kinda draws you out of the situations you are in
Drake is extremely likable, the closest character comparison I could think of is Ash (Bruce Campbell) in Army of Darkness. Just your everyday dude kicking ass. They could have easily ruined the character with a few minor attitude changes, but for this guy they really nailed it . Huge thumbs up
Another big welcome was the perfect voice acting for the main characters (some of the sub characters were meh). This probably has the best voice acting of any game ive played to this point
The scenery was also beautiful and some of the spanning open shots of the ocean and jungle were just breathtaking.
On the video side, I did have the tearing problem and also motion blur at some points, so its not just Gooch. It was almost unbearable in some scenes
My First playthrough was on normal and was extremely easy, I want to grab all the artifacts so ill prob do another run through. (Ended up with 35/60)
If you guys havent checked them out yet, there are some unlockable videos after beating the game in the bonus menu. They show things like making of, motion capture, voice capture, etc. They are really well done and very informational/interesting esp the actor motion capture stuff. Naughty dog also seems like a very cool company internally from these vids
Havent decided my final top 10 list, this will prob be on there, but not at #1. It was a solid 8.5, possibly 9.0 for me.
now, i cant wait for a sequel. This is a great new franchise and I hope they will continue and improve the series
P.S. The jet skis are really easy, just go slow when you know there wil be a guy shooting at you. stop whenever you can barely see him on the screen, blast him, go forward a little more until the next guy, rinse/repeat
were you playing on 1080i necro? i heard that thats where tearing is very noticeable. It popped up now and then for me but nothing glaringly obvious or frequent.
Why is everyone playing on normals and easy!? I guess its my playing a lot of gears that i dove into this bad boy on Hard.
A lot of the replay unlockables are awesome i had an amazingly hardy laugh at the "next gen filter"
Crushing difficulty here i come.
yeah 1080i, hmm. the gameroom dlp is a 720p/1080i set. i usually have games on 720 and movies on 1080, didnt think of swapping it after watching some Blu discs
i chose normal first because i just wanted to beat it quickly. i got so many games for xmas and im going nuts wanting to play all of them :blank:
I am in like a gaming rut, i have a bunch of games i havent touched with no desire to play them
i wanna play FFXII for some reason
Yeah, I found it easy as well. All I did was floor it, stop, shoot explosive barrel, repeat. I think I killed one enemy other both sequences.
On Chapter 14 now. Only put it down because my wife came up and it was her turn to play Zack & Wiki (which we play together anyway). Going to polish this one off sometime today.
Aaaand I finished it.
Although I hated the combat (last church scene was super irritating), the rest of the game was fantastic. This is one of the most engrossing cinematic games I have ever played.
PROS: Gorgeous, visually and musically. Superb voice acting and storyline. Feels like a movie. Drake's one-liners were awesome. Tomb Raider-like sequences were great and enhanced by everything I just mentioned.
CONS: Frustrating cover system and if you hate Gears (I don't think any has or ever will but...) or you do not want it in this game, you will not like the combat.
9.0 out of 10. If I could use a mouse+keyboard for the combat, 10 out of 10.
So what I want to know is... with the descendants, I could run and gun them with ease, which actually was a blast and a nice change of pace. Having to not worry about cover was awesome. Then I try and do the same with the muchos gringos and it is useless. Why the inconsistency?
Yes, that portion of the game was very interesting, gameplay wise, and its what raised my score to about a 9.5. Thus, the only thing I really want to see in a sequel is a better implementation of that type of gameplay. It would have been nice to have segments like that sprinkled throughout the entire game...and Naughty Dog also needs to work on balancing out the shooting and platforming segments of the game, because the Gears of War type segments DO get repetitive from time to time.
It really seemed like this game was 90% Gears of War shooting and only 10% platforming. So the sequel should really strive to be at least 75% shooting and 25% platforming.
I finaly got around to playing the demo of this game. I loved the gameplay, sound, and graphics. It just all works for this game. I'll be picking it up tomarrow.
Do not listen to this man.
A. 10 hours is a common play time for action games. It is not short by any rational measure.
B. The reward system is cool and you will most likely want to play through again to unlock everything.
C. This game is very good.
D. People that make very good games deserve your money, assuming you want more very good games to keep coming. If you just rent gems like this, you are part of the problem.
also play on hard difficulty,
then play on crushing.
Then you have mirror modes, flip modes, ect.
Does the reward system have to do with home, or does it open up more options during a replay?
Yes, the game is solid; It defineatly deserves to be in the top 20 games of 2007.Quote:

If buying the game gauranteed a sequel, I'd buy it.
Its like achievements, but the points unlock things like alternate player models, filters, weapons, videos, galleries, etc. As dumb as it sounds, the mirrored mode really feels like whole new levels much of the time. They are accessed from the pause menu, and many of them can be turned on as soon as you earn them, even if it is your first playthrough.
I wish the PS3 had a standardized achievement system, but getting actual things sure beats just adding to your gamerscore. I think we get this because of the lack of a standardized system. 360 developers are probably just content to fall back on the gamerpoints thing instead of thinking of something like this.
Shouldn't those extras be available, once you've completed the game anyways? Call of Duty 4 extended the playability of the single player mode, by rewarding gamers with an arcade mode.
As trivial as achievement points may seem, it's a big selling point for buying the 360 version of a game, over that of the PS3 version. It's really the equivalent to being the top dog on an arcade scoreboard.
Some are, the more you find the more extras you get.
Is it to you or is it a general statement?Quote:

Its not a coincidence that now 3 high profile ps3 games are carrying Achievements, and their own leaderboards as well, theyre going to sync with home.
It's a little of both.
Are the mainstream gamers going to care about achievement/reward scoreboards? Probably not, but the hardcore gaming community will.
The first thing that came to mind, when I'd unlocked rewards playing Uncharted, was that this had to do with Home. Home is a nice step forward, to challenging the 360's achievement setup, but I'm hoping it's more than just having a pad where your friends can check out your accomplishments. I'm hoping that Home isn't the only source for showing off your accomplishments, when the same option could be as easy as clicking on your friends list to see how much they've done.Quote:

Its a hub to launch to online games with friends easy, whats been missing from Ps3 among other things, and yes showing off home trophies. They also showed off the beta Home web site at last years E3, i imagine its going to take some hints from xbox.com and its integration. Theyve already said youre also going to have a gamercard, and more things besides JUST a gamerscore.
Hell PSP games are even using PSN log-ins (see wipeout pulse)
I ended up buying this during the $40 Amazon sale and I'm so fucking glad I did.
The fact that there is zero loading makes me forget how long I've been playing the game, because it's literally non stop. I've been playing it since 1 today, and if I wasn't going out I would most likely finish it since I'm pretty sure I'm near the end. The graphics are fucking gorgeous, minus a little pop in and some shimmering textures, this is easily the best looking PS3 game (until MGS4).
Then there's the gameplay, everything just comes together so well, and every piece of the game just fits and works really well. The aiming is pretty shitty, but I got used to it, and the cover system works much better than I had previously thought. The "platforming" (if you could call it that) is a lot of fun, and makes Tomb Raider look lame in comparison. The action is fast paced, the enemies while not smart, are smart enough to cause some problems, and the environments are set up so well that fighting groups of enemies is just a blast.
My one major complaint would be the last third of the game, but this one really awesome platforming part right before the part I didn't like more than made up for it.
B-Ri, you were right about this game, it rules. If you can find it for $40 it's well worth your
edit: Oh, yeah. Why is it that the villains always figure out a way into these crazy tombs to stop your progress with no trace of how to get in. It happens like 4 times and it's annoying.
double edit: Beat it. This game rules.
I bought this game when I re-bought my ps3, played it for about 2 hours and had fun, and have never gone back. It is one of two ps3 games I still own (Oblivion GoTY is the other), and I was about to ask wheater or not it was worth playing through, but apparently my question was just answered.
I do have to say that as fun as it was and as good as it looks, I was kinda bored by the time I got to the ship that was stranded on the waterfall/might not be that but you know what I'm talking about.
for those who were waiting on trophies to replay this game, the patch for the US is officially up.
Nice, I'll probably start over from the beginning with it.
That's what I was planning, noob.
itmust be pretty damn hot in my room or something, because ive never heard my PS3s fan blow air as loud as they have been while playing this with the trophy patch, wow.
ruh-roh?

It seems as if people on the official Playstation forums are having issues with discs not reading, games locking up, and fans blowing out of control under the recent 2.42 firmware update.
weve been playing pixeljunk eden for quite some time now and the fans are not as loud as they were blowing when playing uncharted, uncharted is just a beast of a game it seems.
Blast Processing is making the fans run louder.
