He probably passed through the island's "barrier" when he tried to escape the island on the sailboat, that in combination with being exposed to the first electromagnetic discharge from the hatch (the one that made the plane crash) triggered a similar time travel phenomenon.

The ones he experienced in this episode were probably more violent because he was exposed to much more EM energy in the second discharge, considering that one made the hatch implode upon itself.

I'm guessing the writers of Lost, used this experiment as inspiration behind the whole phenomenon created by the island. It makes sense, since the island contains an electro-magnetic field gererator and time/space travel is part of it.

There's a great theory going around on the podcasts: being unstuck in time is the "sickness" we heard about from Rousseau way back in season 1.

Quite possible. That would explain sickness and madness that Russo was talking about.

Too specific. Hurley, Jack and Kate were still on the island when it detonated and Desmond has left the area of effect of the island anyway.

And we will get the answer to the question posed last season of: who is in the coffin at the funeral Jack attends in the season finale by the end of this season.

btw, which podcast was this mentioned in? The official Lost one or some nobody?

Interesting connecting episode, hard to top the awesomeness of last week but it was a little more light shed on the overall connectedness of things. Godamit, who's the man on the boat. If its michael thats not going to be much of a surprise at this point.

It's probably Michael. This episode was awesome. I really like Daniel Faraday's character.
