QFT. The cellphone he was using was the size of a a brick.

If you actually got the split back/forward, you'd think it was a clever move. I mean, yeah, this is probably the first flashback that didn't reveal anything about the character, but as a story tool, it helped build good tension. Better than just the Sun part of its own.
Btw, the toy store is Toys N Joys in Hawaii, which is actually a really nice "white people love japanese crap" store.
That's where I got my import GameCube. :D
The way I saw it, they were portraying just how much Jin wanted to have a kid. They presented the flashback in a way where you'd think he was excited about his own kid, and it turns out to be just a client for his boss. Then it flash forwards and you see what happens with his kid. It was the saddest episode in the series, in my memory. He wasn't a totally focal character, but Jin was a nice guy and it sucked to see him deprived of his dream.
WRONG.
They made it a point to show the slick phones Jack and Sayid used in the future. Jin's phone looked like it was from 1976. It didn't even have color. That was the first hint we got it was a flashforward in the season finale with Jack; the cellphone he was using looked like a KRZR.

And here is the phone Sayid was using; seems like a RAZR to me.

Jin dies. There was absolutely no reason for Hurley or Sun to be putting on airs when they met at the end because nobody else was around. Jin bites it. I'm guessing he sacrifices himself to get Sun off the island... kind of a flip-flop to the alternative (they staying and her dying).
One thing I don't understand is why they'd mix in a flashback now when the whole season has been flash forwards.
Wasn't there some flashbacks already? My memory is muddy but I think there's been a few.
