I started a new Lost thread. The other one is too fucking big to look through.
Is it over 1000 posts?
No?
Then fucking deal with it.
EDIT:
N/M it is over 1000... QUICK THINK OF THE DATABASE!!!!!!
Thas' right bitch. I was right as rain.
hay what's this show about?
A magical turtle.
And very happy squirrels.
FLASHBACKS !!! WE NEED MORE FLASHBACKS !!
This show is based around the flashback you fucking communist.
It was explained in the flashback of the minor character who appeared in the flashback related to the Others, who were having flashbacks of their own but didnt expained one fucking thing in 3 seasons :p
Why do you watch this show again? Shouldn't you be beating your son?
I watch the show in between the beatings :p
I approve. Carry on.
I thought it was a much better start than season 2. It also helped that it was the first time I watched a 'LOST" episode on a 60 inch wide screen in HD. :tu:
Great episode tonight. Lots of spoliers below for those that have yet to see it.
Good to finally see another Desmond episode. Tonight's was easily the most engaging and exciting flashback in the last two years. I thought it was pretty brilliant how the writers executed it, making it both a flashback but also teasing that Desmond may actually be shifting back and forth through time and simply seeing things that have already happened which I definitely prefer to the other possibility that everything on the Island being predestined ahead of time.
Two more things, Charles Widmore is a stone cold jerk and I wanted slap that old witch in the face for letting the poor red sneaker guy die. "Course correction" my eye. Speaking of the old woman, based on what happened with Juliet being recruited off island by Ethan and his associate (and assuming the time travel bit is a red herring), I also wonder if she was actually a Dharma rep pushing Desmond toward the island or...the smoke trying to condition Desmond as it tried with Eko?
Funny thing, right before I watched this episode with my brother, I commented that I hoped that if any major character dies this year that it's Charlie. But if it's "fated" to happen it would be less interesting, unless say, something such ashe dies because he really does end up saving Aaron and sacrifices himself.)
What's with TNL's distain for long threads all of a sudden?
EDIT: also this was a good episode. Good to see the Scots and Hurly again
So yeah, that was a great episode.
Lost has definitely sucked me back in and with the exception of last seasons finale this was the best episode of the past two seasons and next week looks even better.
Spoilers ahoy!
Got some Matrix/Butterfly Effect vibes from this episode. Not sure where you draw the above comment from because what was said does lead us to believe that everything on the Island is predestined. Everyone on the island is there for a reason, nothing they could do would or could change that. Desmond presumably has the vision that the woman did, regardless of what he does "forces" will make destiny happen. Nice little twist on the "Claire is gonna eat it" towards Charlie, they really brought they mythical element back to the show.
The time shift comment? I drew that from the fact that the flashback began with Desmond waking up looking confused, then acting as though "Wow, how'd I get back here?" Not to mention the time travel conversation he had with his physicist friend. Just saying that I think Desmond's abilities and the flashback could have more than one explanation besides just the EMP field itself.
Obviously, it looks set in stone that quite a few things on the island are preset but how much of it is really preset or maybe some force (the smoke, "the island" whatever) guiding things to its advantage?
Here's what I find interesting: the old lady keeps telling Desmond he is the one to man the station and enter the numbers, ranting about how he CAN'T marry Penny, because HE has to go to the island and enter the numbers. How so? Calvin Inman was entering the numbers for years and if Desmond hadn't come along, someone else would have washed ashore later to push it for him. As Inman himself said to Desmond (before he was killed) "I needed another sucker to save the world!"
So, whenever someone like the old lady or "Yemi" appears to folks such as Eko, Locke and Desmond, their speech is always so adamant that there is no choice, YOU are the one that has got to do this, ect. which makes me suspicious.
Anyways, with this episode it's interesting how much Desmond has changed in attitude since when he was introduced last season. I remember when he once said to Locke "Don't mistake fate for coincidence."
edit: Someone on lost-forum.com was theorizing that the old lady was smokey trying to get Desmond to carry out its orders and pointed out something interesting. She firmly told Desmond "Nothing can be changed." Yet, last week, Alex's boyfriend was being subjected to a brainwashing film which prominently flashed "EVERYTHING CHANGES." Interesting. Maybe a clue that two bigger viewpoints on the island are currently clashing with each other?
The episode was pretty meh IMO. Some obvious backstory, but no real info on what exactly happened when the key was turned. A strange dream sequence and...? This episode seemed like a fill-in, a 'We just want to address this real quick and move' type of deal.
Next week's does look much better though.
I thought last nights episode was fantastic. While it didn't tell all that much in terms of island story, I thought it was easily one of the most well done flashbacks out of all 3 seasons. Plus it tied in events on the island to explaining Desmond's past in a weird fucked up unexplained way.
Time loops make me feel funny in the head.
edit: Here is one awesome audio Easter Egg from last week's episode which ties in perfectly with this week's theme:
http://losteastereggs.blogspot.com/2...-time-and.html
Screencap of the guard from last week's episode. The book he was reading was Hawking's "A brief history of Time." Below is the screencap and a scan of the page.Quote:
Thought you might like to try reversing the audio in the scene with Karl strapped to the chair in Room 23. There is a backwards message in the first half of the film (this is a technique called "backmasking"). It's a woman repeating the phrase "Only fools are enslaved by time and space".

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...nh/3y43nsx.jpg
Also, the old lady herself just happened to be named....Ms. Hawking.
Biggest clues to this affect since Sawyer reading "A Wrinkle in Time." It will be interesting to see how these elements pay off later and whether or not they impact the whole destiny plot somehow.
I didn't make any comments on the return episode, Not in Portland, even though a lot happened. Only thing I wanted to point out is that it was really obvious that the bus hit was coming because you could see thebus in the distance when Juliet and the guy were talking.
I just watched last week's episode about Desmond. That was a really good episode. I really felt sorry for Desmond that he went back in time and had the chance to make another choice or if it really did at all and it was just a big tease.
There are many theories going around about time travel and whether the old lady was the smoke and whatnot. Many of it is basically Final Destination/Groundhog Day-esque.
I have a theory (actually, two) that I'm going to be working on that seems extremely solid. Part of one of my theories explaings this:
http://gallery.lost-media.com/albums...diecap1410.jpg
(Live Together Die Alone Screen Captures - last episode of season 2)
http://gallery.lost-media.com/albums...hes-cap752.jpg
(Flashes Before Your Eyes - last week's episode)
How can they both have a copy of a picture that there only is one of?
What if Desmond didn't have to take the path he did? That's why he's a "fool" for being "enslaved" by the old lady's comments.
Nice catch on the pics. Maybe she mailed it to him in the island.
http://bp2.blogger.com/_J_dU7CHa5Rc/...ennyphoto1.jpg
Ok, bare w/me on this as I'm not the original poster of this pic. I believe the bigger pic is the actual camera angle for the ep while the insert is the photo so the angles could possibly be off, however, the shirts do look different too.
You guys nitpick over some stupid fucking shit.
Last nights episode was pure shit. Plus it had to have been close to only 30 min long, I swear there was a commercial for 4 min out of every 10.
Absolutely awful episode. The first episode of the second half was a fluke. Drag this shit out to the middle of the street and shoot it.
Honestly, did anyone watch the preview for the next episode and think 'Ok, that's literally all that's going to happen in this one'?
Yep, and they are wrong, it isn't the episode that I have been waiting for, since you can tell from the preview it is going to suck also. The aren't going to rescue Jack, Kate and Sawyer are going to show up at the end of the episode to rally the troops and they will give us the "NEXT WEEK ON LOST THEY MAY POTENTIALLY GET OFF THE BEACH AND GO INTO THE JUNGLE TO RESCUE JACK" bullshit they give us every week. I think I am finally starting to get fed up with this show, especially when there are so many other TV shows on now that are both awesome, and stuff happens to progress the story.
You're wrong on all accounts. This weeks episode was forty two minutes and sixteen seconds long. So was last weeks episode. The one before that was forty two minutes and fourteen seconds long.
You guys need to start watching these without commercials. It really makes a difference.
Jesus Christ, we're gonna' need a janitor in here to wipe the period blood off the walls.
It was an averagely good episode but way too uneven. For on Island scenes, it had good character interaction all around, but other than Jack doing a good job of holding his own against the Others and continuing to play Ben, it was pretty bland pacing. The flashbacks were bland, contrived and almost completely unneccessary. So Jack got beaten up by the brother/friends of Bai Ling's spaced out body artist after he took away her honor (?) because he made her give him a tatoo which is her job? Who cares? And the meaning of the tatoo? shrug Like we needed all that exposition just to be pretentiously told what we already know? That he's a lonely leader? Sometimes the writers seriously grasp at way to many straws for the most tedious of symbolism. There was no way a Jack story could have matched Desmond's excellent flashback (which Cuse and Lindelof confirmed was time related in some literal way, and not all in his head) but it was still exceptionally dull IMHO.
I was so glad when Jack finally called Tom and the rest on their self righteousness. Out of all his complaints though, I just wish he would have also mentioned when Ethan came out of the water and killed Steve. Especially later when Ben whined about the fact "We had a surgeon." Not mentioning the one person he murdered is poor writing and also IMHO kind of later invalidated the awkward "We're here to watch you scene." Ohhh. Ambiguity, maybe the Others are kind of good since Cindy and the kids look happy. So the Others kill people but they let a pretty stewardess and some kids live and Jack doesn't like to be stared at. OK.
Liked Isabel "the sheriff," her actress has a genuinely imposing presence. And I'm glad Sawyer stood his ground and told Kate to shut up about wanting to go back right away and retrieve Jack.
Best line "PUNCH 'You gotta Cowboy up!"
Well it felt like 30 min to me  I could have sworn some of the episode segments were less then 7 min long in between commercials.
I really couldn't have summed that up any better. I felt like the majority of the episode was a complete waste of time because of the flashback related to Jack. And unless that flashback comes back in full swing in terms of weird coincidences it really was just a huge waste and adding even more filler to the show so they didn't need to advance the core of the story.Quote:

Then shut the fuck up and stop complaining.
I didn't think this weeks episode could suck worse than last.
Boy was I wrong.
Wow, awful. What the hell happened to this show.
I thought it was a fun Hurley episode granted nothing about the island was revealed but it went back to what the show is about and that's the characters. And as usual next week looks like it'll be a good episode.
This episode purely felt comedic. We also got some things cleared up:
- Sayid said he knows what happened with Michael and Walt
- Hurley told everyone what happened when they got captured when he was talking to Libby's grave
- Kate for returning to the island and allowing us to hear from Sayid that Hurley told Sayid and Locke what happened
The whole Hurley coming over his curse and the message from his dad about making your own luck and having hope allplays a significant role in Hurley's life and his desire to finally break his curse.
As I stated, this episode was really funny. There were several golden quotes in this episode. Hell, the title is even random but a good laugh (Tricia Tanaka is Dead). Here are some of the quotes:
Hurley: "Shut up you... RED... NECK... MAN!"
Sawyer: "Touché!"
Sawyer (to Charlie): "Hey Oliver Twist, where's my stuff?"
Sawyer (arm held out towards Hurly): "International House of Pancakes.."
Hurley (to Jin): "Dude. Roger was on a beer run."
Hurley: "Crafty. It's like when you're... good at crafts."
Sawyer (to Jin): "Hey, look who's hooked on phonics!"
Hurley: "That beer's as old as Rocky III."
Swayer making a Skeletor reference to Roger was rich.
Probably one of the lines that had a big impact and is in my top 10 lines ever said in the show:
Hurley: "Let's look death in the face and say whatever man."
Ya, pretty good episode. I don't know what the fuck you guys are expecting from this show. There's a long way to go. You're not getting any answers. Enjoy the ride or gtfo.
Like Hurley said, it's time we had some fun, and that's exactly what this episode did.
I thought this ep was much better than last. Sure, nothing about the island was revealed, get over it. I read somewhere that ABC has signed this show for 5 years, they have time and aren't going to give everything away now. Aren, all those lines were hilarious. And come on Cheech was on this one! What I thought was funny was that they drank all that beer and not only were they still sober, but they didn't get bitter beer face.
Your little synopsis makes the episode sound even more awful then it actually was.
That's no excuse, especially considering there are plenty of other shows out there that have been signed for 5+ years, or have been around for 5+ years and stuff actually happens in an episode to progress the core narrative and keep the viewer interested.
It's fine to have flashbacks, it's fine to have back story, but it's boring and annoying to have Hurley (or insert random character here) chase the dog into the forest for the 7th time, and instead of build a golf course find a car and get it running. It's been done before in a ever slightly different context and it's only the third season, and that my friend there is no excuse for.
One thing I did find funny was the fact that Hurley found that van, told everyone and no one cared. First off, even tho you know there's a bunker and people have been on this island before, wouldn't you question the fact that there's a car on the island? I know I would. I mean, why would anyone need it? It's an island w/no roads. Secondly, you are on a deserted island, w/possibly no hope of being rescued and after at least a month, you probably don't have much to do, why wouldn't you go and try and fix it? You don't have anything else better to do.
Guess I should be glad my cable was completely out last night? :\
I liked it, it was a good character episode. They really need to actually do something now though.

Eh? The episode was a bunch of Hurley and Sawyer being Hurley and Sawyer. Those are the two best characters on the show. And the show's about the characters, so I don't see how giving screen time to those two cats is a problem. I was quite entertained.
Y'all need to watch on-line with no commercials. Those commercials seem to unnaturally elevate everybody's "pissed off" level.
I don't mind a character driven episode where nothing happens, as long as it's a cool down from all the intense action and fast pace of the previous eps. That is not the case here.
stupid episode...
It was a good Hurley episode IMHO, what can I say? They're always funny and uplifting even though Hurley has had a crummy life like anyone else on the show. If it was any other character/situation it would have been dull filler. The flashback between he and Cheech Martin was nicely done with just the right amount of humor and bittersweetness.
Spoilers for the new ep below....

............................
Tonight's episode was 5/5 stars.
I have never watched a Sayid episode that didn't deliver both in flashback and for on island action. The torture story combined with the symbolism between he and the cat was well played. Speaking of well played, the sinking look on Patchey's face when Sayid pulled out the Dharma map was priceless.
Easily the best episode of the season. Very interesting that Dharma and the Others were at war with each other and Dharma lost.
I agree this episode completely delivered and it looks like the show has a good story arc in place to take us through the rest of the season.
edit: Best line of the episode: "Who the hell are you?"
I don't know. Sayid episodes have always been good, but this one wasn't so hot. Better than most this season, but that doesn't say too much.
^^^
You're crazy. This was maybe even better than the Sayid ep last year with Clancy Brown.
No way, you're the crazy one. :0
No sir I do believe you are the crazy one. This was an absolute great episode and I think now most people are complaining just for the sake of doing so. I think most of you wont be satisfied with an episode unless EVERY SECRET IS REVEALED~!!1 But then there wouldn't be any show left. There was quite a bit revealed about Dharma Initiative and you know where there are going things are only gonna pick up from here (well except for maybe the next episode which is a Clarie flashback and they tend to be weak).
Yeah, it was a great episode. As long as the plot moves forward I'm content... the problem is far too many weeks don't really move the plot at all.
This one moved it quite a bit.
Also, Locke is a fucking idiot.
Yeah. He is a stupid bitch.
"But the computer said I should push it."
No excuse for his faggotry.
Locke=Gilligan
The ep was awesome, but Locke seemed very out of character leaving Patches to dick around.
Ok, so I watched this episode again and it isn't as bad as I made it out to be. I guess I just expected a bad episode and that hurt my opinion of it.
Yeah it was like seeing a chess game made Locke forget where he was.
"Oh! Chess!" *runs to the next room and shuts the door*
About John Locke's actions -- we might not have seen the whole story. Lost might fill us in with more details next week and we'll go 'oooooh! that's why!' *
*hopefully
This past episode was amazing. Easily the best of the season. It was great from beginning to end. I liked the trailer for next week too. Things appear to be moving forward from here.
Agreed that John going ga-ga over the chess game was the one weak link in the episode. The director could've at least not let Terry O'Quinn repeatedly display "yayay! chess!" on his face.
Hopefully the next Dharma station isn't wired to an arcade cab for the sake of everyones' survival. :p
Anyways, hoping the momentum continues tomorrow night. Looking forward to seeing what those supposed devices on the border do, if anything.
Curisouty got the best of Locke, but he's still ace in my book.
OMG LOST LOOKS AWESOME NEXT WEEK OMG!
It does, goes great with tonight being another great episode. Perfect pacing, they got the formula right.
I didn't care much for tonights Lost, because I don't give a shit about Claire's character. It was ok, but whatever.
I agree I find Clarie to be the most annoying character on that show but it was still good without those parts and of course next week looks amazing.
P.S. JACKS TOUCHDOWN DANCE FTW!
So looks like Locke knew the place was wired and blew it up anyway. Next week had better provide some explanation, and it looks like it just might. Maybe.
James
Probably will have to do with Ben fucking with Locke's head while he was under house arrest in the hatch, which lead to the Pearl hatch influencing Locke to lose faith in the hatch and the island, which made the Swan go boom.
Good episode. Keep it up Lost. Next week's episode can't be bad... right?
Locke just got drawn in by another computer telling him what to do, because last time he went against the computer, the hole blew up.
At least that was i think they were going for, it really came across as Locke being a fucking idiot. I'm really hoping theres something more to it though, because if he found the c4, and still kept pressing those buttons, his character has sunken even lower than Jack's.
That's who Locke is though. He's the guy that likes to find out how things tick and damned or not, he pushes forward.
Next week's episode should show us a lot about Locke's character and perhaps him being in a wheelchair, had something to do with doing something he shouldn't be.
I think Jack's done some great stuff lately. His no bullshit approach to the incompetent Others has been a lot of fun to watch. The Others have obviously never been up against any serious competition before, because they suck at it. Hell, if TNL had been on that plane we'd be able to kick their asses. Arrogance and surprise are the only things the The Others have going for them, and that only works for a while.
James
Last week's ep was good. Another balanced mix IMHO between on island action and flashback. Claire can be annoying but it was nice to see her stick up for Charlie at the end. The flashback's revelation about Jack's dad was pretty major even if people had been speculating on Christian being Claire's dad for a long time. Can't wait for a new Locke episode, maybe he'll use the C4 somehow to confront the Others?
Either the creators did a nice save on the Locke/chess game or they played everyone like a fool making Locke seem like a douche for blowing up the place. In either case, Lost has been a role and it looks like it will continue with Locke's new episode.
Why?
Chicken Thigh.
This show is on a roll and a half. Locke needs to shoot that dude or something.
So, tonight's episode was a good one.
Locke is very selfish though, don't think he has many friends now.
OMG MAGICAL ROOM THAT GIVES YOU WHATEVER YOU WANT?
That shit is stupid.
word.
