Very nice looking. That one boss reminds me of Where the Wild Things Are.
Pretty awesome, but as beautiful as it is, I won't consider this unless a non-moon language version comes out.
Atlus already showed it, so i guess they have it.
I predict Grim Grimoire will be the better of this year's Vanillaware games.
I don't care. I want it all. Give it to me. NOOOOOW!
No way.
EU or NA?
Mexico.

So, uhh... it looks nice, but what kind of game is this? TBRPG?
If it's a sequel to Princess Crown it should be a Side-Scrolling RPG.
Localizations of Odin Sphere, Growlanser V, or any other potential property do not exist until Atlus USA officially announces them. Partial announcements, release dates posted at Game Fly or ebgames.com, or trademark rights registered at uspto.gov do not count. Until they say so.

;)
What about if they show it at E3? Is that a partial announcement?
Maybe. If they say it was.

NA. This was never not coming out over here. I think, with this game, even if SCEA tried to deny it, Atlus would bomb them. But I don't think even SCEA is that stupid.
Plus, Atlus has released an official press release for the game's U.S. release, killing all doubt any of you may have had.
The art direction is fucking awful.
wow. no way. man...those look too good to be true. i played the original once or twice. liked it a lot but...being illiterate in japan sucks. i really don't want to want a psp but it's getting harder and harder. also, the side scrolling action rpg needs to make a comeback or something.
C'mon, dude. Don't quote entire posts full of screen shots.
I never understand when people quote huge posts and don't edit them down.
Also: If you're the first person to reply to a thread or a post, don't fucking quote it you moron!
just wanted to be clear that i was saying "wow" at the screens. sorry for not editing down.
anyway, i'm glad this is a ps2 game.
Wow, I am liking how this thread is developing.
lol @ doshi
Got to agree with SoK. I'm sure the animation is fantastic and it's always nice to see new 2D games with a lot of effort put into them, but here it's wasted on pseudo-gothloli shit. It's like a masterfully made golden statue of K-Fed picking his nose.
I like it.
This doesn't look good at all.
This game looks fucking amazing.
Princess Crown controlled like junk, mostly thanks to PSP's dead diagonal space.
Oh, and Odin Sphere is "official" now.
Barring what it might play like, the game looks and sounds amazing.
Man, I wish 2D never died.
Only 2 months 'til Japanese release? Sounds like an import to me.
I would have this game's children.
Since Atlus USA has stated they'll release OS in "late spring 2007," it'd be reasonable to assume that the US debut will be very shortly after if not coinciding with Japan's. Plus, Gamestop is listing May 21 as the US date.
Oh. Alright then.
The character animation is kind of weird, like marionettes, but I kind of like it. Now to cross my fingers that the gameplay is good.
James
If only the Dracula X remake looked like THIS instead of assy 3D. :(
The game's been dated for release on May 29th here in the States. Still so many good PS2 releases.
Oh shit... I completely missed this. When's the Japanese release date?
So the same week as the new Osu?
Well I know which game I'll be getting then.

Not even a week's difference.Quote:

atlus-chan, wo ai ni.
日本語を使わないでよ。
Needs more desu.

This month's (May) issue of Play has a big feature on Odin Sphere. They give it a 10--OLOLOLOLPLAYSUCKSTHEYCREAMOVEREVERYTHINGLOLOLOL! Yeah, yeah, pipe down there.
Damn, this game looks hot. I love the way it looks, I'm going to be all over it when it comes out. It just might pry me away from Oblivion.
Edit: Preordered, god I hope the gameplay doesn't suck.
Damn i wish this was coming out on the 360.
Preordered. The videos that I've seen for this have got me all hot and bothered and it's been a long time since I've been excited about the release of anything video game related.
Same for me.
I'm wondering if anyone heard something about an art book to come with the game? It seems like such an obvious item to throw in with the game, but I can't find any information on it. I could have sworn that I read somewhere that it would.
A side note, I went to eb/gamestop site to see if they mentioned an art book with preorder, but I saw nothing. Nothing except this...
You know, all those Valkyrie Profile clones just laying around. Just everywhere, everywhere you look it's a VP clone.Quote:

Not going to pre-order, but I am going to give this a try. And I hate JRPGs.
No no, that's all well and good. I'd pay for an art book for this game, though. It just seems like an art book released at the same time as the game (regardless if it cost more or was just a bonus) would be a logical extension, considering that one of the main things this game gets attention for is the artwork.
I haven't looked at shit for this game. It'll be fun to just dive in.
I came.
So did I.
Why is it a brand-new, untested IP can get this treatment, but Castlevania can't?
No shit. I guess we can rule out Sony being the problem now as well. No way does this have more pull than Castlevania.
Well, it's an RPG, so it's all but guaranteed to sell more copies in Japan than any Castlevania, and may indeed have more pull.
It's an action-brawler with RPG elements. Big, melodramatic story and side-scrolling monster-smacking gameplay. It's close enough to the same genre as Castlevania to make no difference.
James
Japan doesn't count, anyway.
Preview video with Jeremy Parish, some loser, and a dumb broad BSing about the game. Watch it for the gameplay and ignore the douches talking.

Michael Donahoe is hot.
That may be so, but he needs to stop saying like so fucking much.
Yeah. I agree.
And this game looks amazing. I'm going to get it for sure. Never thought I'd see the day where I buy a new release.
Some brief first impressions. This is my first new purchase in about a year, and I'm very happy with it. I'm shocked it's getting a western release so soon, but that's definitely a good thing.
Does the game support 16:9 and/or 480p, Gaijin?
Nope, neither. In fact, there's no settings screen until in the game. When you start a new game, you choose your difficulty setting. That's it. Within the game you can change a few things. Audio, and the color of the text bubbles for one.
The majority of my PS2 games are 2D, many low-res. As such, I have no cables capable of 31khz output. :( Sorry.
This ships today. I'm fired up. New, domestic, 2D, console games are so rare these days that each one has to be treasured if it is good.
Really pumped for this also, and with my 360 out to pasture for a while, there's nothing to distract me.
I'm glad it's not coming out on the 360. Hopefully it has digital controls, and I can use my Neo Pad or Saturn Pad.
The only reason I'd play it on the 360 is because I wouldn't finish it on my PS2. As much as I loved the thing in its time, it just looks like shit on my television set.
If it had been for the PS3 in the first place it would support 1080p, even GGXX doesn't look so hot after the 360's menu. As for controls, I find that funny considering what you're hoping for is support for 3rd party pads (not that I disagree, mind you).
But I digress, we can't have everything. At least we're getting a new awesome looking 2D action-RPG-thingie after far too many years. I still wish we had gotten Princess Crown translated for the PSP, that was the first game I went for after modding that system.
How's the language barrier in Princess Crown?
I pre-ordered Odin Sphere but cheaped out on the shipping. I expect I won't actually have it till next week.
Princess Crown isn't too difficult to stumble through. You may need an FAQ for certain sections but progressing is fairly easy(just follow the roads and check out new areas when they open up)
Problem is the only FAQ available on gamefaqs only covers Gradriel(the main character), it doesn't say anything about the sub-characters you can play as after beating the game with her(they all have their own storylines, though they're quite a bit shorter than the main's)
But yeah aside from a couple dumb areas(in one part of the game you have to pretty much run in circles through three different towns to trigger the next event and you actually have to go back and REPEAT an entire dungeon just to fight a new boss) Princess Crown shouldn't be too hard to get through.
Thanks. I'll consider this. Lord knows I don't have enough domestic games I need to finish.
OMG, i cannot wait, this game looks FOKIN AWESOME.....Guess i won't be going outside for a while.
Game looks gorgeous. If it plays good, looks like Friday will be Etrian Odyssey and Odin Sphere day for me.
I'm wishing I sprung for overnight shipping. Tomorrow seems so far away.
It shipped today. Odin Sphere and Taito Legends 2 shipped yesterday. This weekend is going to be fucking rad.
Definitely. It'll help me remember what the hell I've tried as well.
So is this in stores today, or only shipped?
It'll only be in stores you should avoid today. Buy it tomorrow at Target or Best Buy.
