I finally played my Gamecube copy of Twilight Princess, beating it this past weekend.
I soured big-time on the game at first because I hated that monkey that steals your lantern to lead you through the poisonous fog (what a tremendously wasted opportunity that was), and then hated how annoying all of the accompanying monkeys are in the first dungeon. I really wonder if this franchise should be so neck-deep in puzzle design like this is, and it did feel hollow with all of the open space. Also, for whatever reason this is the first Legend of Zelda game I've played that didn't really feel like it had a cohesive overworld - certainly not like Ocarina of Time, despite how much this game is built on that one.
But all that said, they nailed this game in terms of the items (especially), the environments, and the dungeons. Good and/or bad, this is OoT-formula Zelda cranked to 10, but there's an astonishing amount of creativity housed within. The large, hollow world actually felt epic to me and Midna somewhat grew on me as the story (and character) progressed. The bosses are pretty neat but not too difficult, although thankfully this game is more difficult than Wind Waker. There's an air of mystery throughout the story that serves the game well.
The wolf transformation mechanic, I didn't outright hate, but it did nothing for me.
I recently played through Wind Waker before this and, for as much as I love Wind Waker's charm, it feels so rushed and lacking a certain level of polish expected from a Legend of Zelda game. Twilight Princess on the other hand is a much different case, immersed within itself but fully developed and impressive throughout. Also, Wind Waker's Zelda is something special, but I found Twilight Princess's Zelda to be quite interesting as well.
It's the atmosphere that makes me like it the most. I thought that was incredible in TP.
Easily my least favorite Zelda of the 3D bunch. I hated the bs with the wolf and I absolutely despised how you would get locked into tiny areas to fight those predator creatures. This game was an absolute chore for me to finish.
I'll be playing Skyward Sword soon, with Twilight Princess finished.
Hm, wait a little while. Twilight was so good after all those awful bug hunts. I don't know if Skyward is actually bad or i was just burnt out, but i really hated Skyward after, i don't remember, halfway through? 2/3rds? I might've liked it a little more if Twilight hadn't been so fresh in my mind.
MIDNA
A lot of it is bad: constant insulting tutorials, unintuitive controls, and tedious filler. Everything good about it is just a rehash from previous games. I stopped at a little over ten hours since I was done waiting for the game to get good. People tell me I already played the best part it.Quote:
