Organ Donors

I started this week my second job, programming for a non-profit company called Life Banc (www.lifebanc.org), and when talking to the media director about the website (which is pretty bad, and I'll be redoing it) and it really got me wondering how many people I talk to, whether or not they are going to be an organ donor or not. Just recently (like 6-8 years) states started creating registries of organ donors, Ohio being one of the first.

only .5% of people who die are even eligible to be organ donor's (You have to suffer from brain death in order for organ's to be eligible for transfer after death IE you're brain dies but your heart doesn't know to stop pumpin and you're living off an intensive care unit). But tissue recovery is also a life saving which I believe doesn't require as much of a drastic situation as organ recovery. Tissue recovery helps to allow heart valve transplants and replace corneas.

Anyways, I'm wondering how many of TNLers are signed up to be organ donors, and to say that really, you guys should take the 3 minutes or next time you get your driver's license renewed to become an organ donor.

I'm an organ donor. Now I feel pretty useless since I didn't know it had to be a brain-related fatality that caused your death and be eligible for donating..

I didn't know that either, but yeah you have to be brain dead, OR I think die in the ER, but that probably gets ruined by families not consenting fast enough. But yeah donating tissue also saves lives, they told me a few stories about people being saved by a heart valve replacement and one man who never saw his wife until he had a cornea transplant and for the first time was apparently able to see his family.

Shit, no one will want my corneas. My eyes are fucked. I have stigmatism in my left eye, need contacts/glasses with a strong prescription AND am easily succeptible to detached retinas.

I want to be an organ donor, but I have diabetes, horrendous eye sight, and my liver is near shot. Due to all the diabetic medicine I take.

BUt hey I want to be a donor. Plus I'm asian thats another strike against me. :)

If someone can use them, it's not like I'm doing anything productive with them.

This applies to now, as I type this.

What will you guys do when your zombies without livers. You'll be pretty fucking unfashionable, thats for sure.

I want the doctors to fight for my life, not look at me as a possible source of organs.
