Words or phrases that annoy you

"Hardcore", the use of this word before anything is annoying, same with "extreme".

I worked with a girl who would say "chilax". The combination of the word "chill" and "relax". I wanted to choke slam her everytime she would say that. Same girl would also say "what the F", instead of saying "what the fuck".

I heard Rachel Ray refer to sandwiches as "sammies". That made me clench my fists.

"Think outside the box", is a phrase that has been overused and abused far too long.

Any others that should be stricken from our language?

Anything that's used in an office. eg. shoot me an email, f.y.i., c.y.a., touch base, etc.

"Exclusive"

It annoys me the most when I see it in Game Informer.

"My bad." First its annoying, because it insults the English language.
"Excuse you." If someone burps they might say this phrase. Instead of saying excuse me. Its annoying because I didn't burp; you did.

I agree with Schlep on this ... Office terminology sucks.

edit: Forgot ... Asian American, African American, etc. Why do we have to say that? Aren't we all Americans? Why do we have to separate ... isn't this the melting pot? Why separate with names?

Half the time I don't care about anybody else to listen to what they're saying with much intensity, but I too hate the use of nice. It's been thrown around in commercials like no tomorrow for the last 2 years and I'm sick of it. Alternatively I hate it when someone hears some bad news and immediately says: "That's bad." "Literally" being used to describe things that are either A) not actually literal, or B) would never be mistaken as anything but literal. "I literally had a ham sandwich." As opposed to metaphorically having a ham sandwich? I'm guilty of this as well but hate myself every time I do it.

"I could care less" and "___ is all but ___" get so misused it's stopped being funny. "I could care less" never makes sense unless you're trying to be ironic or something, and "is all but ____" means "is everything except ____," not "is only ____." (Example: I all but knew exactly what she wanted, or, The Corvette Z06 is all but fast. -- These don't make sense.)

These terms are pretty much racist as hell. They are basically saying that cultures from Africa, Asia, America, etc are of no individual merit and can be clumped together under a single blanket of secondary value next to European cultures.

Organic is a term that actually has to be quantified with research for you to be able to put it on your box. If a soup is certified organic then it's made with natural ingredients.

The word "natural" on the other hand is open season. Natural on a box means nothing -- you don't have to meet any standard to use it. Pork rinds and anthrax could throw it on their packaging if they wanted to.

If it's recent, I'm guessing it's from the South Park episode where Ike has sex with his teacher. Either that or this was going on unknown to me earlier and they were making fun of it, which in turn created the phrase in places were it didn't exist before.

I may very well say it wrong. I've come to th conclusion that there is something going on with my brain or sense of hearing when it comes to language. I've thought for a long time it was just my dialect, but here recently I've been called on a few things by my coworkers. Like pronouncing "hybrid" as "hybread."
