You must have lucked out with whom you're sharing the connection. Cable is typically faster than DSL, but it's not dedicated like DSL is, so if you live between two torrent hogs, your performance will suck. I'm convinced my speed from Time Warner has gotten worse in the last two months. I'm not sure if they're throttling me or if a new hog moved in somewhere close by.
Yeah, I'm probably just lucky for right now. I'll live it up while I can.

Do some speed tests and see where you are at. If you're lower by a large margin (10% or more) than what your speeds are supposed to be, call them and bitch. Run three tests, one in the morning, one in the evening, and another in between if it's possible. If it's lower in evening it's prime time and you won't get a whole lot on their end. If it's slower the entire day they're fucking you and you can call them out on it. OR something is just wrong, bad cabling etc, these things happen incredibly often.
I hear Verizon is increasing my 25/25 fios to something even faster just because they can.
Nice. I think Finch and I are paying like $50 a month for 20 / .8 mbps d/u. I don't really upload a lot so I don't care, but for a long time I waas sitting at only 4 down and .2 up because the cabling was just awful. The guy came to fix it and said "I'm not sure how you guys are even able to connect to the internet at all, it shouldn't be possible."
Apparently I'm dreaming. I ran speedtest.net and got essentially identical results to what I had in July, 2011. Where I've noticed the shitty speeds is in Steam downloads, so it must either be the time of day or on Valve's end.Quote:
