TMNT 1989 has an achievement called "Real Ultimate Power".
We know.
You called Red Steel "great."
I'm completely off the hook for my Eragon mistake, now that Mog and Melf have both played Cabela games for no reason other than achievements. Melf is a rare breed of Puerto Rican redneck if he claims otherwise, and Mog played Eragon and Cabela shit. Fuck Achievements. I've gone a month without any and couldn't be happier.
You also forgot shit like, Superman, Sonic, Civil War, Lost Planet, Xmen, Fusion Frenzy 2, and Rapala Fishing. I'll give any piece of shit a try. At least I didnt pay for Burger King games.
Eh, my girlfriend works part time at a video store so I get everything for half off. She also just rents me the new games right away if I want them. I'd try most of the shit even without the achievements, totally wouldnt spend the amount of time with them I have though. I enjoy it.
Superman is a perfect example of why I stopped "achieving". That game is way worse than Eragon.
Yep. And I did slog through it. I only wish I hadn't. There have been some good games that I never got around to playing, yet I finished Superman? I just couldn't live with that going forward.
Play good games for achievements, that what I do. I don't have as high a score as you or Melf, but I feel a lot less dirty about the collection of games that gave me my score.
Theres a lot of games I had fun with that I probably wouldnt have played if not for achievements. 99 Nights, Kameo, Gun, Just Cause, King Kong, Tomb Raider, The Outfit, Marvel Ult, and especially Earth Defense Force. Not worth buying, but still worth a cheap rent.
Superman Returns: The Video Game isn't that bad of a game. It's also not a great game for easy achievements, due to a few retarded ones (kitten finder, travel 10,000 miles, etc.).
I'm with Gozen when it comes to achievements. I'll go the extra mile to unlock achievements, but only for games I would actually play regardless of the achievements. Yes, that includes Superman Returns.
If your standards are that low, you should have a shload more points.
Well, the only reason I got into Superman Returns is because I'm a big Superman fan. I even have the crap Superman: The Man of Steel on Xbox (although, I would never touch Superman 64). Also, I should have more points but I don't have the time.
The time is what is forcing me to look away too. If I still had 40 hours a week to play games, I could play everything good and get all the easy achivements from bad games, but I don't have that time anymore.
I bought African Safari because I've been curious about it for the longest time. Yeah, it had easy achievement points, but I've been itching for something new to play, and it was cheap. It's actually pretty fun too, although the Dangerous Seven trophies on expert are a pain.
You've done more in worse games, so quit fronting.
I only played Alaskan Adventures because I am a hunter and I have never played a hunting games. It was fucking crap. Note the pathetic gamerscore on that one. And as far as Rapala fishing goes I really enjoy fishing and have been getting pretty excited to got out again. The game had me interested and the only reason I kept playing the piece of shit was I w3anted to see what kind of fish I could go after next. Large Mouth Bass and Walleye FTW! No muskies though. LAME. And for the record whomever made Rapala fishing knows fucking shit about fishing besides what they maybe read in a magazine.
Those are the only 2 games I'm going to reason why I played. :D
Melf, I heard African Safari was a lot better than Alaskan. You played them both? Alaskan had the worst gun physics EVER. EVER!
I've never played the Alaskan one. I opted for the African Safari because hunting rhinos and elephants sounded cooler. It's a fun little game too. The graphics are decent enough, and the hunting is simple. Physics aren't really an issue, as things are more arcadey than sim-like. You have an adrenaline meter for when you're attacked by predators and your hunting sense (bullet-time) to make shooting easier.
It's a nice change of pace, since I've never played this type of game before.
Damn, what happened to this thread?
Back to the topic:
I'm a bit of an achievement point whore, since I've been out of work. I'm going back through games I didn't otherwise have time to play, and enjoying getting more out of them specifically because of the points involved. Gotta admit, it got me through the mess that was Phantasy Star Universe's one player game. But it got me 1,000, so I'm not gonna complain too much.
I enjoyed Superman Returns, it just needed more mission variety.
Yeah, I enjoyed it as well. I didn't mind the lack of variety in the missions, but I did mind the frequent mission encounters when I'm just trying to explore the city. I'm not sure how this could have been done differently, though. I guess they could have made it so that you had to fly into a floating icon to start missions, but that would sort of ruin the game's continuity. As is, your only opportunities of freedom to explore the city is before boss fights, when there are no mission encounters at all.
While Civil War certainly isn't a great FPS, it is different. Reload times, archaic weapons, and, um, "history". I don't think it's a terrible game by any stretch, but if you're looking for halo/prey/etc..., then you need to skip this one.
Civil War has piqued my curiosity as well. I've just been waiting to find a used copy or for it to drop in price new. I love the CW era, and this one might be fun.
What's the ambiance like? Does it try to be faithful to the era like the Call of Duty games, or is it more arcadey?
I'll trade it to you when I'm done with it.
It tries to be faithful, but it's not nearly on a COD level.
I'm playing Meet the Robinsons, so I'd say I'm a whore. But I also checked it out because I have nothing else to play and have some time off this week.
You think Maddens retarded, try Fight Night Round 3.
Like you get 1000 points for playing career mode long enough to fight 12-15 people.
Its the most fun demo ever I'll give you that. If they spent 1/8th of the time on the game and collision detection as they did on flying it would have been the best comic game ever.
Fight Night Round 3 is still a great boxing game. No matter if the achievements are stupid or not.
Opaque stalking today, I guess.
I liked Fight Night achievements, too. If it were done like Virtua Tennis 3, you'd have had to throw 5000 jabs, win 1000 fights, and complete dozens of mind-numbing mini-games to get your score into the 700's. Fuck that, FN3 does it right even if it could've been more difficult - especially given that you don't *have* to do a bunch of shit online that you don't feel like doing.
I play good games like I always have, and achievements are like icing. I love them.
I wish I was good enough to finish the Smash TV achievements =(
I want to break 6000 GS soon, I'm at like 5905 or something like that! I've been playing Gun, because I got it for 4.99 and so far it's been pretty easy to play. It's kinda fun too, but very repetitive.
If anything, Live keeping track of the games I play makes me stay away from shitty games, lest someone sees I've played some fucking Cabela game. I would die.
Have you played African Safari? It's nowhere near as bad as you might think.
Heh, I was hunting hippos today and my daughter came into the room.
"What are you playing dad, the animal game?"
"Yes Kimberly."
"Look! Hippos! I love hippos."
BLAM!
"Go back to the living room Kimberly."
Hippos are mean SOBs. You were in the right.
My housemate is really into Cabela's African Safari. I gave it a shot once, but just couldn't get into it. I like the premise, but the stiff controls and low production value were big turnoffs.
I'm really digging Gun. If Activision spruced this title up for a sequel and added some more depth and polish, it would be amazing.
I love doing the marshall and bounty hunting missions. They are really fun! As well, the main story is actually pretty interesting with memorable quotes.
Hoodoo Brown:'I'm HOODOO BROOOOWNNNN!!'
*Gun guy shots him through window*
Gun dude:'You were'
I know I'll never forget that.
I love unlocking achievements; Seeing a list all checked off is awesome and the "Achievement Unlocked" ding is awesome. I could really careless about achievements that I think are crap, though, nor do I care about the overall score that's tied to your gamertag. This thread does have me more curious about the trophies in PS3's Home... It's just a shame that I don't think those are ever going to be as standard as the 360's achievement points, though.
I feel the same. I don't know what it is. One thing that will always knock me off the fence if I'm hesitant about buying a game is seeing a screenshot of a partially filled grid, incomplete checklist, etc. I can't get enough.
But it's not as simple as that. Some developers come close, and then ultimately miss the mark, leaving me to believe that they really don't truly understand. Exit PSP is a great example.
In Exit, you start with a big yellow grid representing all your incomplete levels. Every time you finish a level, the square changes color. Good, right? Well, kinda, but not nearly as satisfying as it could be. The square goes from yellow to... a slightly different shade of yellow. WTF. It needs to turn sparkly gold, or fill in with a green checkmark, or a flower, *something*, preferably with a brief animation and a pleasant sound effect. I strongly believe these little "gamey" things, if applied appropriately, can often add up and transform a good game into a great one.
One that should have been an achievement: Clearing all the random crimes in each zone of Spidey 3. Bastard programers.
I've been playing lots of 360 and Wii (well, just Zelda) lately. And is it high-def graphics I miss the most when playing the Wii? No, it's Achievements.
I *really* like these little things. Seeing and hearing the trophy bubble pop up, and then checking my score and noting its new, slightly higher value is incredibly satisfying to me.
I think I'm still being healthy about it, though. I don't have any desire to pad my score by playing games I'd otherwise have no interest in. I am tempted however to try to get more achievements in games I liked, and "finished," but didn't get the full gamut of points (Tomb Raider and PacMan C.E. come to mind).
