Official XBox 360 Thread III: Third Strike

They own this year's release list, nobody else comes close. Nintendo's got Mario and Sony's (probably) got Metal Gear, but they can't touch the sheer volume of quality releases MS has on top of Halo, this year's going to be an assault. They must be feeling gutsy.

If they were going to release a more expensive unit, they should have just slapped an HD-DVD drive in there, called it their PS3-killer package and been done with it. Would have looked alot better.

And made me feel less bitter about the fact that I'll have like 3GB left after Shivering Isles.

Having to buy another hard drive for 200 is :( Knowing I'll probably have to buy it to hold the content I want is even sadder.

Maybe I'm missing something here. Why does a different color system warrant an extra $80? Does it have a built-in HD-DVD drive or HDMI port or something?

The new HDD will come standard with the new system.

Oh, I guess Strider's post was a little confusing. It sounded like the new HDD will be sold separately for $200 on top of the $480 system.

Yeah, it only makes sense if it comes with the new system, but that doesn't help anybody who buys/bought the premium.

The 360 hard drives are smaller laptop drives which is what makes them so expensive. It's also the stupidest fucking move they've ever made because no one gives a shit about the physical dimensions of their hard drive. No one would give a shit if they put out a standard size, fairly priced external hard drive that you attached like the HD-DVD player.

$480 is LOL @ Microsoft.

Someone needs to figure out a hack to make any HDD work.

I just don't understand this pricing scheme. With the number of quality titles coming out this year on MS's platform, they could really hit critical mass if they would just price their SKU's appropriately. They should just position the new "Zephyr" as the new premium package and the current premium as the core and be done with it. This nickel and dimming is not going to garner any support from the gaming community and will only erode all the "goodwill" (or perceived goodwill) they have worked so hard to acquire. Like it has been pointed out before, it seems they don't want to win as badly as they should.

They tried, but MS has the drive limited to 20gig (via certain required system files) no matter how big the real thing is. The new HDD will bring a system update for the older systems to increase the limit to 120gig, but still no real way to get "more" on one drive no matter it's official or unofficial origin.
