I thought the same thing about my December 05 system until I got the red ring of death last night.
Printable View
I got the three red lights while downloading the Marvel content the other day. I powered off, rebooted, and downloaded it again without any problem.
It never happened before and hasn't happened since, but I'm very wary now.
this thread delivers:tu:
No red rings yet on mine (bought about a year ago). It does cry out with a disturbingly unhealthy sounding clicking sometimes, though.
yeah, that's how I passed 200k.
Dyne, do you own any of the next-gen systems? You seem to chime in about everything based only on what you've heard or tried out.
my bro has a 360 and i've got a wii available whenever. i don't need to own anything to know the 360 has a high failure rate so i fail to see your point. you don't need to bunch your panties cause i say it's shoddily made (which is fact weather you "hear" it or not. the past 15 posts are proof of this) but i'll say it's a great system if it helps you feel better about your investment. here's my breakdown of this gen.
Nintendo needs to release GAMES instead of gimmicky shit for me to buy a wii.
SONY needs to get an exclusive i want and drop the price $300 for me to get a ps3.
MS needs to make their fucking system better before i get one. it's that simple. until then i'll wait for my bro's to break.
I only asked because you only seem to be seeing this from only one side. And I wasn't talking about the 360 in general. You're almost like the kid on the sideline talking about the game like he knows what's up, but has never actually stepped foot on the court before.
I meant 200 million.
Until you've seen one break, you should refrain from making blanket statements based on anecdotal Internet talk.
I believe it's true that 360s are poorly made, but I hardly see why anyone should be on a crusade unless they've had their own system break. If I didn't own one and read reports of the system's sad reliability, I'd refrain from buying one, but it's retarded to go ahead and tell people that they're suckers being held by the balls by Microsoft just because you read some stuff on the Internet.
I don't think its just stuff that Dyne is reading on the internet. Its a problem that Microsoft has admitted exists and is trying to fix.
Its sad that there are problems like this with the system because other than the quality of the system itself, it's really top-notch.
I love you guys, but if people like Joust can go off about the Wii without owning one, and almost the entire internet can go off about the PS3 without owning one, Dyne is ok to comment on the 360's failure rate.
is that korly in aurora's av/sig?
orl?
Medical or not, the shit is obscene, and most certainly not work safe. -- Andy
That bitch has a big hairy asshole.
Stop derailing the thread.
Andy doesn't like fingers in buttholes I guess.
So just a show of hands here...
...who has been completely soured on their 360 experience (from failures) to the point where they have given up and who is getting close to that point? I know we had a poll about who had a broken system, but I would like to know who has had one/about to have one and just don't want to deal with it anymore. Because I will be going down with the ship ;p The system is just too good.
Gears maps aren't so great but you will need them if you want to play. I can't understand why they didn't include offline multiplayer for Catan but oh well. If you've played Settlers of Catan you probably already know what to expect; if you've never played an Euro style board game you'd probably be pleasantly surprised (I haven't bought the XBLA version yet, though).
I would have given up on it if it weren't for two things:
1 - The 360 has the best games on the market right now, with Halo 3 right around the corner.
2 - Xbox Live is just so much fun, and all my friends are on it, so if I were to get, say, a PS3 instead I wouldn't be able to play online with the same people.
Luckily MS redeemed themselves a bit in my eyes by fixing my old 360 for free out of warranty, albeit after a bit of complaining and pressure from me. But, it's a problem that MS has admitted to and have done little to fix - and I was a bit soured when I found an extended 2 year warranty deal in the box for the Elite, for the low, low price of $60. How about just making a reliable product instead.
I told you last night during Gears but you were to busy wahhhing about something to hear me.
For noobs maybe.
My system has been fine so far, and I wouldn't have a problem sticking it out with the 360 should I have to replace it later on down the line. I've had to replace systems in the past, from the NES to the 3DO to the PSone, so it's no different now.
What I do have a problem with, though, is the retarded DRM imposed on Xbox Live Arcade games. As we all know, if you have to replace my system and put your original harddrive on a new system, you will no longer be able to play Xbox Live Arcade games without connecting to Xbox Live. It's total bullshit and something that might just grate on my nerves enough for me to not look back.
I have never had to replace a system until this generation.
My Sega CD and Dreamcast are still operable after all these years, and I'm sure my Turbo-Duo and Sega Saturn would still work if I hadn't sold them years ago.
I have been thinking about selling the rest of my old stuff lately. With all the decent emulators available, Gametap, and downloadable content for the XB360, Wii and 360, there's just no reason to hold onto all that stuff any longer.
That said, I tried playing my PS2 today to stave off the emptiness I feel without my 360. It didn't work.
5 days.
Just do it. I sold my Gamegear, N64, most of my Neo Geo/NES/SNES/Genesis games, Turbo Duo, Turboexpress, 3DO, Virtual Boy, Lynx, 5200, 2600, and so many other junk over the years. It is not worth hanging onto all this stuff when I don't have time to play them anyway, and if I do, I can just emulate them.
I still have DC, Saturn and a few Neo Geo games left. I am thinking about getting rid of them too. I will keep PS2 though, that one has too many games I will go back to.
My cousin's 360 started having issues with its DVD drive recently. It wasn't giving DRE errors, but it just wouldn't read discs to begin with. We called up MS support and worked our way through all of the useless questions to get a replacement, but it turned out that one of the suggestions actually worked. My cousin had the wrong time zone on his console, and somehow that's a known source for drive related issues. The fuck? The tech couldn't even believe that it worked.
Over here warranties a pretty great so as long as I kept getting a new one I wasn't that miffed about it but I still traded mine in one month ago. Great times were had and there are some good upcoming games but the fan drowe me nuts so I thought I might as well trade it in and get one when they hopefully sort that out.Quote:

Well, can't you delete the old copies of the XBLA games then re-download them to get around the DRM?

CliffyB to blame for the GoW map pack pricing, says Nelson.
I bought them anyway so it's a non-issue.
Alright, I'm done defending his shit.
My god, that's so wrong. Without the extra memory, the 360 would really be Xbox 1.5, instead of matching up with the PS3. Someone chain Nelson to a desk fixing all the broken 360s to give him a sense of reality.
lol majornelson
I would have listened to it on my lunch break if I knew he went batshit crazy. Listened to a different podcast instead.
They need to fire his ass and hire me instead. I'll turn that place around. 50 cents per GHII song.
Also, remember that update scheduled for today?
According to Nelson there is not a concrete day for it yet.
MS is a piece of shit.
Okay, listened to it, and yup, his moron level is indeed growing. I love how he never gives the full story on what he's talking about so that it can be spun in the way he wants to spin it.
And, as has been pointed out, MS should be thanking their lucky stars that they were convinced to go with 512MB or RAM instead of 256.
I wonder if the final boss is named RAAM to keep reminding MS what it was the system needed. If it was, they should have named him RAAM McSAYNOTOSHITTYMANUFACTURING
They're charging because they can. How are they going to keep the lights on with only $60 per game? You're lucky they didn't force bundle it with Oblivion horse armor.
Guys, how come when I press a direction on the d-pad, I go in the opposite direction?
Was d-pad technology not perfected 20 years ago?
Well, the update was meant to coincide with the release of GFW Live, and seeing that Halo 2, the only game that will be GFW Live, got pushed back 2 weeks, it only makes sense that the update would as well. Still bull shit though, and I am starting to hate Major Nelson more and more. He really does suck at his job. PR people are supposed to get people to like the company, not post shit about them on the internet.
EDIT: According to Xbox360fanboy, the spring update will be out tomorrow. There are a lot of reports of people calling customer service and getting confirmation that the update will indeed roll out at around 3am pacific. Take this as you will, as it wouldn't be the first time customer service didn't know what the hell they were talking about.
You'd think they were making enough money from charging $50 a year for peer-to-peer matchmaking, $5-10 to unlock content already on the disc, and $1-2 for small jpeg images to be used as gamerpics.
No update yet, so don't be expecting it today. Hopefully tomorrow.
There are, however, two videos on live that show you the features of the update.Quote:

I'd rather them take their time and release a stable update. If it's another mess like the Ultimate Alliance DLC, I will have to throw my 360 at poor black people.
The evolutionary ladder is a tough one to climb, eh?
It's better than feces.
The legendary December batch....
She's dead.
Kind of coincidental that all our systems are going bad roughly around the same time.
Hurm...
So, I thought when you did the best buy plan you just went to the store and picked out a new one...
planned obselesence imo.
I must have gotten stuck by lightning. My launch machine is still running flawlessly. But I have to say, it is raather upsetting to hear so many people having problems. Fantastic games, crappy device.
:(
Well, it started acting up like 3 days ago, random freezes etc.
Tonight I played burnout, wrecked whores so hard it broke.
But looks like I get $400, so I might just eat the $80 bullet and get the elite.
Senor Moore talks about failure rates:
"I can't comment on failure rates, because it's just not something - it's a moving target. What this consumer should worry about is the way that we've treated him. Y'know, things break, and if we've treated him well and fixed his problem, that's something that we're focused on right now. I'm not going to comment on individual failure rates because I'm shipping in 36 countries and it's a complex business."
And according to Major Shill the update will hit tonight around 2am Pacific
i was just about to post this.
here's the whole thing.

Things don't break unless they are designed in a shitty way. Nice attitude.

Dash update tomorrow.
