*runs to start DL before server maintenance*
Aaaand... it finished with about three minutes to spare! =D
In other news: photographic evidence. Who knows why MS is still denying the Elite, but it's starting to look pretty silly.
Supposedly tonight (around 12am EST), there's going to be 2-4 big announcements by Microsoft.
Edited for anal retentives.
Halo 3 beta pls
When has 12 p.m. qualified for "tonight"?
It's tonight in WA, which is where MS is.
Oh, so it's at 12 a.m.? Got it. Staying tuned.
Stop posting and go buy Mercenaries. Right fucking now.
What system is it on? Wii?
mmmm hdmi 360 is tempting. Then I could put the old one in my room and give that one my other live account.
According to Gamespot, Dead Rising and Lost Planet are staying exclusive to 360.
New 360 :( I want it badly.
So did any one else loose there challenges in Worms? For whatever reason, I am back at challenge #1 but I was on #20 :yuck:
I better not have. I'll be pissed.
Thats the one I'm stuck on right now. I hate it so much.
Guess I am the only unlucky one
i am currently stuck on 13 too :(
it gets easier after 13. Took me two days to beat it
And we reach the anti-climax.

REDMOND, Wash. -- Microsoft Corp. will sell a version of its Xbox 360 with a 120-gigabyte hard drive and a souped-up high-definition video connection in a bid to broaden the appeal of its popular console beyond video games.
Earlier versions of Xbox 360 came with 20 gigabytes of storage. But that filled up too quickly with movies, TV shows and games from the Xbox Live Marketplace online store, said Peter Moore, a corporate vice president in Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment group.
The new Xbox 360 Elite will sell for $479.99. Consumers who already own the $399.99 20-gigabyte model will be able to buy a snap-on 120-gigabyte hard drive for $179.99.
The new console and the drive are expected to hit U.S. shelves April 29.
That HDD price is pretty balls.
Shit, that's it?
As soon I snap on that 120 GB hard drive, my 360 will crap out on me.

The Elite does not appear to be a limited run as some sites previously speculated so it's official: the 20 GB is the new retard pack. Those Core packs won't be around for too much longer.
If the 60 GB PS3 does drop to $499, it will look competitively priced compared to the new $479.99 flagship 360. I don't know which this will help more: the PS3 or the Wii?
So does the 2nd announcement have anything to do with Xbox, or just MS in general? Because the first one was obvious (and the price is l-a-m-e but I'll be there Day Zero).
$180 for that HD is outrageous. LOL @ MS.
Pass on the 31337
EB/Gamestop make me trade in my oldbox for a newbox and give me an attractive deal... Do it.
Or the elite can fuck itself.
That may not have been the first big announcement. That may come in 7 minutes
I can't remember how I beat Challenge 13 in Worms, but I concur that it's probably the most difficult.
Make sure your first two turns are really effective. If you mess up, just restart the challenge and keep doing so until you are content with how your first two or three turns came out. Save your dynamite and jetpacks until the end.
$180 for the new hard drive is balls. It shouldn't be more than $100.
Are they making these announcements on their web page?
OMG WHAT AMAZING NEWS!
lol adv on xbvm.
Where's the news coming from. Link plz.
Fucking weak.
If the Elite came with wifi built-in I would dropkick my premium out the front door.
As it stands though $480 is lolz and a HDD for $180 is lololz. I'd understand if they dropped the premium by $100 and killed off the core but they're doing neither.
What the fuck MS?
I hate when companies pull this shit.
Report: Hey Microsoft, word has it that there will be a new 360 coming out in black with a 120 GB harddrive and an HDMI port...
Microsoft: No, Microsoft has no plans to bring out a new model of the 360. Microsoft also does not comment on rumors or speculation.
Microsoft a little later: Hay guys! Guess what we have? A new model 360 in black with a 120 GB harddrive and an HDMI port!
It makes them look completely stupid. So does pricing the 120 GB harddrive at $180.
HDMI seals it for me and also helps narrow down my choice of new recievers. Now to ponder how much stores will offer for trading up systems.
I've been waiting for the Elite for a long time now. I was always fine with the white finish on the regular 360's, but all black with the black Gears faceplate is going to kick so much ass. Day one, no doubt.
No price drop = balls.
Are the Elites going to have that cheaper chipset that doesn't overheat or something?
So they just re-released an implosion waiting to happen in a new box? That's some business strategy there.
My entire motivation for picking up the elite was the promise of a reliable and durable 360. If it's the same thing I've already got with a bigger hard drive and HDMI then fuck it. MS is way too cocky right now.
Same. I barely fill up my hard drive as it is now.
So, that was it?
Just the elite?
Anyone knows if the HDD content on the 360 is locked to that perticular 360? meaning would the downloaded games turn into demos if the HDD is plugged to another 360?
exactly what i said before the "official" announcement and kind of touched on in the news forum. if MS now has a $500 sku that has the same failure rate, can this affect their image? with all things being equal to the casual gamer (remember folks, THEY drive the industry, not US) as far as software is concerned (besides maybe 2 MUST haves per system) and performance, i could see most going with the more well trusted SONY brand. we don't hear much of PS3's breaking, but that could do with having only a portion of systems out compared to the 360 usrbase. this will make things interesting.
What's the failure rate of later models? Is it still as high as the launch ones? If not, you probably won't see as many dead elites as you did launch systems, but that's still too many.
Fuck them. I'm sleeping through this one.
Hopefully MS knows how important it is for this system to be succesfull. The 360 is selling well, but not nearly as well as it should with all the games and features it has. If this system has the same death ratio than that is going to be it for a lot of people.
Although $480 is still a lot of bones to be throwing down for a console, it isn't an awful deal. The only real ripoff is the HDD. But for an extra $80, you are getting a HDD that is 6 times larger, HDMI output as well as an HDMI cable (which depending where you get it and the quality could run anywhere from $30-$80), black headset, and black wireless controller.
I don't really give much of a rip about the Elite console, but at least it facilitates black 360 controllers being released to the market. I'll definitely pick up one of those.
Exactly, this thing needed the HD-DVD drive in it to even make one bit of sense in regards to releasing yet another version to the public.
And that HD upgrade price, um wow...
Considering it's 6x the memory of the 20gb and they charge $100 for that, the price isn't nearly as bad anyone should have been thinking it would be.
Basically you need a $680 Xbox360 to compete with a $500 PS3. LOL@M$!
One thing the PS3 did right was allowing standard 2.5"HD replacements
Microsoft just did for the PS3 what all of Sony's propoganda and spin-doctoring up to now could not. And they did it willingly and under the pretense that it would be beneficial from a competitive perspective.
lol if you have 2 20gig hdd's.
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/28/ne...of-conditions/
That first bullet point sticking out at ya, just a bit? It might rub a lot of people the wrong way, especially since Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg told everyone to buy two 20GB HDDs back when they released all of the TV and movie content, and people were worried storing everything. Zoinks.
- You cannot put the data from two or more 20 GB hard disks onto one 120 GB hard disk. If you attempt to move multiple drives, only the last one you move will be stored.
- You can only move data from the 20GB Hard Disk to the 120 GB Hard Disk. Transferring data in the other direction, or any other combination, is not possible.
- Any data stored on the 120 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted.
- Any data stored on the 20 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted after it is moved over.
- Once you move the data over, it cannot be placed back on the original hard disk.
It's hard to think about people not getting just a bit cheesed about this. If you have two hard drives, that Microsoft told you to buy, and then when they finally release the new bigger drive and then tell you that you can only put one drive's worth of good on it, that's a pretty bitter pill they're asking you to swallow.
I hope the second announcement isn't something that we already know.
'Omg guys, we're going to have a Halo 3 Beta!'
I was originally going to wait for the new 360 before jumping on-board the 360 bandwagon, but now that the elite model seems to be not worth the wait (or the price), I have a premium pack on the way with Gears of War, a Wireless Network Adapter, and a couple of games that I'll probably end up selling (Burnout Revenge, GRAW, Call of Duty 3, and Battlefield 2: Modern Combat) to fund some accessory purchases.
Since I’ll likely be playing on my computer monitor for the rest of the school semester, my first question is:
Can anyone recommend a decent (cheaper) alternative to the Microsoft-brand VGA cable?
Yeah I read the article on Joystiq about that, and if true that would be some really kick ass news.
The Elite just points out how overpriced the premium is currently. 100 extra gigs and HDMI for $80. On the other hand, it also points out how freakin overpriced the HDD is. I want to get a 120gb, but I'm not paying more than twice what it costs at retail.
This is the same, shitty Microsoft that forced their little chips into every accessory to make sure that third parties could be undercut by their own shit. The result of that has been exactly one arcade stick and everything being overpriced. I am starting to believe that's the real Xbox division at MS, not the one that made a few good moves last year.
Furthermore: I'm not defending it, nor am I buying it, just setting it straight.
How good does 1080p look on the 360? i heard it's not as good as PS3 1080p since on the 360 it's basically upconverting a 720p single, where as on the PS3 all games are made with 1080p in mind.
my bravia doesnt accept 1080p over component, so i was thinking of getting the Elite just for the HDMI port.....but deep down inside i don't think it's worth it.
thoughts?
i thought the 360 HDD was a "laptop variant". laptop HDD are all 5400rpm for the most part (unless you want to spend big bucks).
says wiki.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360#Storage
The Premium configuration of the system comes with an external hard drive and it is optional to separately purchase one for the Core. The detachable 20 GB hard drive is not required for standard games. The 2.5" hard drive is connected through a SATA interface and spins at 5400 rpm. The new SKU of the Xbox 360 (The Elite) has been announced along with a new 120GB HDD sold either packaged with the Elite version in a black case or sold separately in a white case to match the older models. The 120 HDD will retail for approximately $179.99
