I don't know what the fuck you kids are doing to your machines...
Never had a problem with mine either (knock on wood).
...getting them from Microsoft. Seriously, the second one they sent me didn't work out of the box. Nobody's doing anything to them, there's just a huge number that malfunction. If yours is one of the ones that don't, enjoy it.
If they really are changing parts suppliers towards the end of the year, it might be worth holding out if you've got the patience. There are still years to go in this gen.Quote:

Like I said in my original bitchfest, things look much worse to anyone who gets a defective unit because all MS does is send you more of them. The QQ on their "refurbishing" process is minimal at best. The failure rate might not appear so bad if they didn't keep recirculating the busted ones.
I think it was a false alarm. In desperation, I took gears out and gave it a clean despite the disc appearing completely fine, and it seems to have stopped crashing. Somehow, it must have got dirty or something while sitting in the machine.
I wonder if vacuuming the vents out once in awhile would help keep it running well. Must get dirty in there after awhile with all the air it sucks in.
I got a red light once when I started Gears (lower right quad) but that's it. I've had some games freeze on me but I think that's software related.
Vents, overheating and air circulation and all that shit are not relevant. It's likely the thermal paste on the CPU either being applied way too thin, cracking or just sucking. It's the definition of the three red lights: it's your Xbox saying "I don't know what the fuck is wrong with me" because it doesn't expect itself to be put together so poorly. It could also be that the power brick is a piece of shit.
They ran a nightvision heat test on the 360 and it was running much cooler compared to many laptops and other electronic equipment.
Why is the power brick so massive? It's larger than my power strip.
Apparently there is a circuit breaker in it. Gets hot too so whatever else is in there was separated from the system to keep heat down.
Has anyone opened a dead system and tried to fix it themselves? Putting on thermal paste is easy, would be worth a try if a system is out of warranty. I'm surprised I haven't seen a guide on how to open the system and shit yet (then again I haven't looked).Quote:

1up calls Microsoft on their bullshit:Quote:
Upgrading a PS3 doesn't seem to have been a painful experience for consumers, however, but Greenberg claims there's more to it on Microsoft's side, and the price they're offering is actually comparable to "a 120 gig self-powered external PC drive and in that case we are seeing those retail at anywhere from $160 to $200 for comparable laptop sized external hard drives."
Can someone, then, explain how Newegg.com is offering a 500GB external, USB-powered hard drive for $154.99? Even a tiny, black (just like the Elite, ironically) Western Digital 120GB external, USB-powered hard drive is only $94.99.
The 20gig should be 40 bucks and the 120gig 100 bucks. It's bullshit, plain and simple.
Calling bullshit on Microsoft is like calling Bill O'Reilly an asshole. He knows it and just doesn't give a fuck.
Dying units or not, I can't keep myself from buying a 360 for much longer. I had been getting to this point for a while. GoW certainly didn't help my self-control much, but Virtua Tennis 3 is that tiny little shove that pushed me over the edge. That, and I got addicted to Geometry Wars again. Ugh.
I used to never want to commit to buying computers because something better was always around the corner. Now they're pulling this shit with consoles far too often for my liking. One major upgrade through the life of the system was okay with me. This, not so much. Do I let them gouge me for the Elite? Do I wait for 65nm? I really don't know what to do. :(
Price isn't too bad for an elite...but really, the core should be gone the premium should be 300 and the elite 400. That's the move that makes sense.
This holiday season is going to be nuts.
Rental -1.
Meh, MGS 4 isn't a system seller for me anyway. I'll definitely get it whenever I get around to buying a PS3, but since that day looks far off, I guess I won't be playing this for a while.
On the flip side, Kojima has also said that every installment would be the last one, but here he is talking about part 4 and that he'll still do more if people want it. Funny, considering he once said that he wouldn't revisit Snatcher because it was "in the past and I want to concentrate on the present."
DMC4 isn't going to the 360.
DMC4 isn't going to the 360.
DMC4 isn't going to the 360.
OH HEY GUYS, LOOK WE DECIDED TO DO DMC4 ON THE 360.
MGS4 will almost definitely end up the same story.
It'll have an 8-12 month exclusive window or something. I imagine it being a total bitch to bring a ground up PS3 game to the 360.
I don't remember anyone at Capcom commenting on DMC4's exclusivity status beyond the initial announcement. Of course, even if they did it probably didn't make the news since they aren't video game "celebrities" like Kojima.
They just make far better games than he does.
My system was purchased on New Years Day of last year, and so far, it has been fine. I've red-lighted one time after a power surge, and I've had only 2 freezes (both on Oblivion). I'm crossing my fingers here because I absolutely hate replacing consoles.
Capcom games typically have an "exclusive" factor of about 12-18 months before they release it for the competition.
From what I see, there are many 360/PS3 multiplatform releases out and coming out. I don't think exclusivity is in the long term interests of *any* company that wants to survive. Particularly for the those developing for the PS3 as it stands now.
Well, that sucks if what Kojima says is true. M$ needs to throw some money his way or give him a hand job under the table or something.
If that PS3 version doesnt sell well though, I cant help but think the choice of exclusitivity would be out of his hands, and that Konami would port it to 360 or something.
Kojima sucks.
Boktai 1 and 2 just slapped you in the face.
I'm just curious, but for those of you who have had your 360 display the "red-lights of doom", did you play Oblivion excessively? I have a launch 360, and barring me jinxing myself, have had no issues. I've pretty much owned or played most 360 games with the exception of Oblivion. I'm not saying there is a correlation, but I am curious.
I used to play Oblivion a lot, and I haven't had any issues with my 360 so far.
I just loaded the game up...the time on my game is just over 155 hours. My brother's file is at 110. Both of those together pretty much qualifies as "obsessively". The few freezes that occurred were all on Oblivion, although I'm chalking that up to the law of averages being at work,
just bought it just finished plugging it in just finished signing up for Live
B Ri RDM is my tag name, Gears of War is the online game i have so far.
PS. this thing is LOUD
TLDR
LOL

Also, a video highlighting these changes.
Capcom's gone on the record that both the Dead Rising and Lost Planet franchises are staying on the 360, but I'd take that with a grain of salt. Then again, Eidos has snubbed the PS3, saying that it won't develop for it until it has a bigger userbase.
That's hot, especially downloading while the console is off.
I wonder how many 360s will brick with this one? *Crosses Fingers*
Sounds like a lot of Live Anywhere stuff. Dl'ing while the system is 'off' sounds great.
What Microsoft needs to do is stop being bitches about having to be on logged on to Xbox Live to play Xbox Live Arcade games if you bought a new system but are using a prior harddrive. Someone's internet service goes out and he's stuck unable to play his Xbox Live Arcade games. What a load of crock.
I want 1440x900 display support, dammit.

gears on live just crashed on me saying it is unreadable. I open the tray and there are some pretty nice gashes on the outsides of my gears disc.
noob
Your PS3 got jealous and used 4-D magic on it.
Have you moved the console while playing? This scratching thing is apparently pretty common -- at least way more common than it should be -- but I find it pretty hard to believe that it got scratched up that bad in the few days you've had it. Unfortunate if true, but this also doesn't help you prove you're not a viral marketer.
no i didnt move it, it was just me and my friend mitch playing gears online, and it went black and i got a popup saying its unable to read disc. I restarted it, took out the disc from the tray, and its got two gashes on the outsides of the disc, but NOWHERE near what the huge gashes are from moving the console (i googled it 5 minutes ago)
The game still seems to run, and theres nothing on the dead rising disc, but should any more surface im going for an exchange, as much as itll suck to repackage it all.

Man that sucks, maybe I've just been lucky but I've had no problems with the console scratching my disks. Hope you get that exchange worked out if the disc gives you problems, it would be a shame if you couldn't give Gears a proper play.
MY friends xbox went through like 5 gears of war. 2-5 were from bloxbuster, because we knew the xbox was eating it. Wierd thing is, it only eats gears, no other game. (as if there were some other game worth playing)
It's powered by orphan hearts you know.
Chux, what the hell is BugBash?
The NDA says I can't talk about it.
Isn't it that XBLA insect strategy game?
I did a little BugBash research, and this is what I found:

3 red rings. Fucking cunt.
I saw you pop on, sorry about your lose.
doubt it. how long is the warranty? I got mine at launch.
Well, Microsoft extended launch system warranties another year from...early Fall 06 I believe. I know my roommates had a launch 360, got the 3 rings while playing Dead Rising (October or November of last year , I think), 360 died, gave Microsoft a call and had a "new" system within about 2 1/2 weeks or so. Unless the deal is different for Australia some how which I doubt. Try giving them a call Monday or something.
yeah i'll call them tuesday. monday is a public holiday.
I hope that's fake.
It definitely is. It's been confirmed by Gamespot and Gizmodo. Also, I'm really glad they're integrating msn messenger into XBL. I'll be grabbing the keyboard.
I do. The only thing AIM has over MSN anymore is that it's far more prevalent on cell phones. Even the MSN for smartphones blows ass since it uses gprs and doesn't reconnect after a phone call.
I'll stick to AIM.
hey, does your guyses internal fans not turn off sometimes when you turn off the system? I shut the thing down yet it still sounds like its running.
If the thing is scratching your games and sounding like it's still on after you turned it off, I say exchange it for a new one.
yeah i just asked cap.
been playing a lot of dead rising to see if the system would do the same on it, no such. Must just like chomping on gears, it hasnt done it on gears since, heres hoping it doesnt.
Besides the halos, any other games from the Xbox library worth picking up? Minus Ninja Gaiden cause im gonna get sigma, what else is there.
