There is very little variety in the levels like we saw in We <3. Every level takes place in the same town, just expanding out, several of them even starting off in the exact same area.

So, it's inferior in every way to the last console version of the game, and also the most expensive Katamari to date at $40. Namco then adds insult to injury by locking levels already on the disc, and charging for an unlocking key via DLC.
Yeah, all the backlash is a real mystery.
All that being said, like I mentioned before, it's still Katamari, and therefore enjoyable when evaluated by itself. But when you look at it in relation to the series as a whole, and factor in the shady DLC bullshit, it's just a straight up shaft from Namco. I'm not surprised at all the Katamari creator jumped ship after We <3.

As for the game, Compass is actually right on all points. Just feels like it lost its soul just to push out a corporate money grab sequel. Some of what makes a Katamari title great was just left out.
Its on both my top and bottom lists for the year because I love the concept and presentation so much and the fun factor is still off the chart. The leaderboard kicks ass, and the gameplay smoothness is what Ive been waiting for (due to the platform)
But all of those negatives Compass listed are real downers when comparing to the series as a whole. Just thinking of how little work it would have taken to make it great makes me :cry: . The DLC piece is the biggest shitter for me.
After loving previous releases, i guess there were just higher expectations

I think the fact that I can enjoy a game because its fun to play sometimes is a good thing. I don't need a game to change my life, or give me a handjob, or be perfect, or whatever it is that you seem to need out of a . I stopped being "hardcore" or whatever a long time ago. This is a hobby.
KATAMARI CHECK LIST:
Roll around a ball and pick shit up? check.
Fun music with root synth tones? check.
Nonsense dialog from the King? check.
Yep. Its still Katamari, and its still fun to play.

I liked 1 and 2. If 3 has different things to roll up and cats that sing different songs, I'm pretty much ok with that.
I'm really sorry that the creator of the series wasn't involved with this one, but hey, that's how Work For Hire operates. If he's smart, he's getting royalties.
