Yeah, way to look real hard:

Thx for finding that for me, Yosh. Appreciate it!
Bounty Hunter is the first confirmed class.
Trooper, which appears to be the engineer equivalent, is the second confirmed class.
:TU:
LOL at how great the promo video looks and how shitty the actual gameplay looks. The art style is horrid, as is the animation.
I also had to laugh last night when G4's Olivia Munn named this game of the show based solely on the CG promo video. Can't believe people are still stupid enough to fall for that old trick.
They are going for the same idea that WoW did. MMOs are expected to last about as long as a console generation, so you can't go for cutting edge realistic visuals, or they'll look like shit halfway through the game's lifetime. Or, in terms you can relate to, half a generation later than the Wii's looked like shit.
I have no idea how you can comment on the gameplay, since no interface is shown.
It's easy:
This game looks about as dull as early WoW combat videos.
Oh, and the art style still sucks (which isn't much of a departure for KOTOR). And I still kind of resent Bioware for switching this over to an MMO.
But if half of the insane PR raving is true, it might turn out pretty good.
So in other words, if you don't like MMOs, you won't like this. I'm perfectly fine with that.
I'm still pretty excited about the way they talk about story.
I will probably be keeping an eye on this, hopefully this is out after Arthas is dead so I can just cleanly jump.
Maybe this will keep Yoshi's attention for more than a few months too.
I played Galaxies for over two years straight, so it is quite possible.
I don't play mmorpg's and I'm tempted. Yoshi will last 3 weeks or until he isn't the first jedi, whichever comes frst.
I have no desire to play a Jedi in this game. Introducing Jedi to Galaxies is what ruined that game, along with SOE trying to make it more like WoW.
Well I want to be a sith so I can force push you into the wall a lot.
Smuggler, though it hasn't been officially announced yet.
It hasn't? I posted a link to an article of a guy talking about it.
Smuggler or rogue will be in there.
I'm hoping for a heavy trooper type class or an assasin class myself.
They were looping the preview cinematic at Best Buy this weekend on some 120hz tv they had set up for demonstration. All kinds of people stopped dead in their tracks to watch, even those who didn't seem like Star Wars fans. Several people, an old man included, exclaimed that this is what the prequels should have been like.
Check out this interview at gametrailers.com
He talks about the Smuggler class and mentions the Bounty Hunter class.
Smuggler 4 Lyfe yo.
Yeah, it's definitely coming. It's just not one of the unveiled classes yet. They wait until they have more detail before they show them publicly.
Hah didn't even know about the official website
Add that to content streaming and politics in general. :p
bastardo!
Add spanish to the list
I want to make a mexican dishwasher wookiee.
First gameplay footage went up a few days ago, with developer walkthrough.
Looks interesting, I don't really play MMO's but this doesn't really look like most of what I've seen from the genre. They only show two people grouping up. Not sure how it's going to work out with more than that at the story points.
I watched all 20 minutes of that earlier this week. This game is the definition of day one.
Could this be the epic return of Hyerrisacchs?
Was that your Wookiee?
Yeah, my Imperial, human-raised, xenophobic Wookie dancer.

I think Quadrapus still has 100,000,000 credits.
Yeah I'm pretty excited.
The characters look worse than SWG.
I'm curious as to what the character editor will be like.
I would guess that it will be pretty limited, like WoW's, which is unfortunate. I hope I am wrong.
That would be my guess, but we'll see! I look forward to teaming up with you!
So far we only know the Trooper Class, The Bounty Hunter, and the Smuggler class. We have seen the Sith Warrior class and we can assume there is a Jedi class. That leaves 2 evil classes and one good class to go.
Storm Trooper has to be one of them, despite this being pre-Empire, so that would make...
Sith - Jedi
Bounty Hunter - Smuggler
Trooper - Storm Trooper
My guess for the last pair would be something with pets. Maybe one with droids and one with creatures...
I might pick this up still.. but the art style really bugs me. Especially if you can't customize the characters much. Gack. SWG did it right in that area. Seeing only human characters with no helmets just makes me cringe.
I don't mind the stylized/cartoony take on the SW universe, but the character faces aren't selling it. They all have sloppy feature placement and a slightly stupid, blank expression...especially noticeable in the dialogue cutscenes, when your guy is saying something particularly menacing but looks on the verge of drooling.
Of course, this may very well be on their plate of things to finish.
I got pretty addicted to Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, I hope this game will be somewhat comparable....
hate to break it to you, but this game will be nothing like outcast or academy
of course it wont, but Im hoping it will be just as entertaining if not more entertaining
Really? Guys haloofthesun is a troll, ignore it. He also spams the gears thread with bullshit.
"Gee, I wonder if this mmorpg will be like a 1st person shooter!"
yup, and I was frustrated when Episode 1 pod racers wasn't at all like Tie Fighter.
Gtfo
That being said, day 1.
This looks interesting. I'm not committed and every MMO I've played hasn't held my attention (WOW did for awhile, but I played the shit out of the beta so I think that really hurt it).
This looks absolutely fantastic. They've addressed things that make MMO's a little dull and infused some innovation in to the gameplay (by taking systems and ideas off their single player games). Having to make decisions that affect your leveling, abilities and progress will help keep characters from becoming way too similar.
In many ways it reminds me of that old free online RPG game Graal
first of all I saw the announcement on E3 live
second I know it won be exactly like JO or JA because they are not even being made by the same team
third I wouldnt really consider those games to be an fps....I never really used the guns anyways....
and fourth....oh yeah, I know its an mmo
Ive been psyched about this for awhile....
btw I dont have crazy, colored hair, therefore Im not a troll ^_^
I just saw some gameplay footage....looks good so far. although its about what I expected from the trooper class.
http://kotaku.com/5353674/first-foot...oper-in-action
All eight classes have now been revealed:
Republic
- Jedi Knight
- Smuggler
- Trooper
- Jedi Consular
Sith
- Sith Warrior
- Imperial Agent
- Bounty Hunter
- Sith Inquisitor
Also newly announced is that Alderaan will be a playable planet.
I wasn't expecting a release before holiday 2010, but I must admit that spring 2011 is further out than I had hoped. Oh well. At least I can now wait and use next year's bonus on a PC rebuild.
Good, that will give me time to save up for a system that can run it properly instead of just barley. I may even be able to get a 3D capable monitor & video card/glasses by then.
Yes it does, jealous?
Nope. I'm not sharing my beer with my PC. It can get its own.
I rigged mine so it runs on natty lite, cheaper than electricity and no one out of college should be drinking it anyway.
Did they update the graphics or something? Last time I saw this running it looked like they were going for WoW style, will run on PC's from the 90's graphics.
I don't think they have updated too much. The game has always had spec and normals from what I can see, which is way more than what WoW can do. Their poly counts have always been way higher as well. They actually may have changed the character and lightsaber proportions a bit since the initial press release they had showing the game, but I don't think the tech has changed too drastically.
I didn't think BioWare would have the balls to do it, but space combat is confirmed.
Four news species announced. I really like the Miraluka.
The space combat was detailed in some German magazine. On rails, entirely optional.
Stolen from GAF:
-"This way of playing is called "tunnel shooter". They are specially designed levels, where you follow a specific path. The player has a choice of weapons available, which he uses against his enemies. You get a quest before it goes in there." So pretty much confirmed to be an on-rails shooter.
-"At release, there will be no PvP combat starship. Later BioWare does something but not enough."
-"The missions should last no longer than a few minutes, and are therefore more of a short action-snack in between."
-"There are also escort missions planned."
-"All space missions are currently optional, no one has to do it if he does not want."-"This way of playing is called "tunnel shooter". So there is one area Galaxies is going to clobber TOR. The space combat was handled correctly in Galaxies.
However, if we get a Star Fox-like minigame out of this, it may still work.
Yay. i knew you could be a Zabrak. And the Miraluka chick from KoTor 2 was one of my fave crew members.
The space combat does look like Star Fox.
As much as I liked galaxies at the start, and as much as I like star wars, I can't get into the tech/art designs they are using for this game. It's actually really annoying.
Holy Shit! We finally get to find out what happened to Revan!
Also: HK-47, FUCK YES!
They need to make it recruitable.
Originally saw this on GAF, but thought there would be some who missed this.
This comes from an anonymous blog from an EA developer who worked on the Warhammer MMO who is going to be fired. He is spilling the beans about the way that the game was handled and other such goings on. But there was one fairly interesting part in his post:
You can read the entire post here.Quote:
And Bioware? Don’t make me laugh. They’ve spent more money making the Old Republic than James Cameron spent on Avatar. Shit you not. More than $ 300 million! Can you believe that?
And you know what they’re most proud of? This is the kicker. They are most proud of the sound. No seriously. Something like a 20Gig installation, and most of it is voiceover work. That’s the best they have. The rest of the game is a joke. EA knows it and so does George Lucas, they’re panicking , and so most of Mythic has already been cannibalized to work in Austin on it because they can’t keep pushing back launch.
Old Republic will be one of the greatest failures in the history of MMOs from EA. Probably at the level of the Sims Online. We all know it too ……
Look down at the comments to find a slight rebuttal (and agreement, though in a more civilized manner) from someone else claiming to be in a similar position:That said, sound design is too often over-looked and not given the attention it deserves. I'd be a rich man if I had a dollar for every game that had even just shitty balancing. Regardless of the quality of the rest of the game, it's kind of nice to know that at least one major title is happier over the way their game sounds than the way it looks.Quote:

Full sound in an MMO is like tits on a bull
The Nefarious Legion beckons.
edit: And there's a new trailer for PAX East:
I really have no faith in this.
Nobody really understands why Star Wars is awesome anymore.
I find your lack of faith disturbing.
Hopefully they can get this out so they can capitalize on the re-release of Phantom Menace in 3D....
... seriously though. This game is going to be a huge bomb.
If this game does one tiny thing right gameplay-wise WoW will patch and do it ten times better in two weeks. The theme isn't enough. Extended Star Wars universe fucking sucks, and this game isn't KotoR, as good as that was.
And that trailer looks like shit.
I don't necessarily mind simpler graphics, but is it just me or is this thing entirely devoid of any atmosphere whatsoever?
A bunch of new videos and such of this came out after E3. RPS posted a bunch.
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011...blic-tatooine/
I'm not going to lie, this game looks like shit. Not a good use of $200 million.
It looks like an MMO. What I don't understand is why they're publishing videos of that length that don't focus at all on what is supposed to separate this from WoW.
They showed the dialogue options and stuff. Isn't that what separates it from WoW?
I already played WoW.
I wish WoW was Sci Fi though.
You just want World of Starcraft.
So do I, but we know it'll take them 30 years on Blizzard time to make it
The thing is, I don't think many people care about a story and voice acting in an MMO. That's not why they play it.
I guess Bioware thinks they can get fans of their singleplayer games onto TOR with that, but I'm just not seeing it. And I don't see Bioware (or anyone) being able to maintain the enormous staff it would take to keep delivering that SP-quality content onto the game.
I really think this game is just misguided.
We should know pretty soon. I certainly understand both your point of view and its source.
There's a million games that work on that same concept and sell gangbusters. You bring in people with story-driven content, and then keep 'em around with the repetitive multiplayer stuff. That's been key for games like Call of Duty, and I don't see why it wouldn't be here. A stronger narrative component IS going to bring in some people, and chase away none. It's true that eventually that content's going to burn out just like it does in WoW, but that's not really a disadvantage to doing it.
COD doesn't have a monthly fee so it's not exactly analogous. It will soon but but then COD is closer to a F2P style of game than a fee-based one.
The obvious disadvantage to doing what Bioware has done here is that it is massively expensive and takes forever, and the size of the audience receptive to it is dubious. MMO poopsockers don't care about it. MMO casual players that play them for a few months at a time (someone like me back in the day) probably don't care about it. Single-player Bioware RPG fans may care about it, but they may not want to pay a monthly fee and get roped into an MMO.
And whenever this game comes out it will have to release against a bunch of MMO's turned F2P. TOR with a fee or free LOTR/D&D/Age of Conan/etc.?
Of course, TOR could always go F2P, but then they are talking about making up $200 million plus (yea that was a rumor, but I find it plausible considering all the content, time of development, how much other games cost, etc.) on selling droid pets and lightsaber colors. I am sure EA's stockholders are wildly excited.
My main problem with Old Republic is that I could never get into anything other than film universe. I tried playing KotOR when it came out but didn't dig it. I could try it again now, but I dunno.
There really is nothing about that universe that excites me.
