The Yanks haven't been retired 1-2-3 since the 8th inning Saturday.
Matsuzaka out pitches Sabathia.
Sox win.
1-0.
Thanks. :)
Phils are playing real hot right now but those Mets just refuse to give up any ground. Kyle Kendrick has been average (which is all you can ask for a pitcher that's coming up from AA) and JD Durbin is starting to look like maybe he's the real thing after turning out two straight strong outings and throwing a shutout on Sunday. The bullpen has been fairly strong behind JC Romero (no idea why the Sox let him go), Madson and Alfonseca. Gordon is back but hasn't been getting much time but has been good in two appearances and Myers is expected to return this weekend. It ain't over until it's over.
If I was a Boston fan it'd be infuriating for me to watch Matsuzaka. He'll be mowing guys down for 4 innings and then randomly walk 4 guys in a row, give up a base hit or two and he's out.
If I were a New York fan, it'd be infuriating for me to watch baseball.
Well then it's a good thing you're not because it's awesome to watch baseball right now.
I know. I know all about the NYY streak, and I actually watched the almost pornographic Tampa Bay double header last weekend, but I'm happy with Daisuke. Given, he practically owns the trademark to the phrase Nightmare Inning®, but he pitches so well around the Nightmare Inning® that it often doesn't even matter. He threw 26 pitches in the first inning last night, walking the first two Cleveland batters and generally looking horrible. He managed to miraculously get out of that jam unscathed, and threw just 72 pitches of shutout ball over the next six innings.
SpoDaddy is right, it does seem as though sometimes he just forgets how to throw a baseball over a four or five batter span, but he's 12-7 in 21 starts in spite of having the worst run support of any Red Sox starter and has 136 K's to his name. <3 Matsuzaka.
By the way, the only NYY starter with a better win-loss percentage than Daisuke is Wang, which is a fluke.
