I'm suprised the Oendan games weren't localized in North America.

The problem with Ouendan was that licensing the tracks for US release would have taken more cash than Nintendo thought it was worth. Personally, I think it would have done just fine, but this is one of those cases where I can see their viewpoint clearly enough that I'm not going to argue the point.
Instead I imported Ouendan, and I'll be getting Ouendan 2 immediately. It's not like English is all that important to these games, and I suspect that Ouendan 2 will be a bit more import-friendly in the menus than the first.

I was never a huge fan of the first one. Neither the music nor the gameplay. I went back to it recently and finished the easy campaign (the bottom one), and liked it a little more (the song about the dead guy is good; making the heart on the bottom screen was cute), but I still don't see the big deal, and found the whole thing vaguely irritating.
It bugs me because by all accounts I should adore a channed out rhythm game for DS -- especially one that's received a ton of praise. For some reason, I kinda want to try EBA even though the songlist makes me cringe.
Never play Ouendan on Easy, or EBA for that matter. Too few notes to hit means that it's harder to find the right beat than on normal. It's just not fun at all. It's relatively fun on Normal, but once you hit Hard the game becomes great.
