An underrated SNES RPG Series called LUFIA

Lufia 1+2 were two of the Greatest RPG's ever to grace the SNES console. I have played through both and really enjoyed them. They were overlooked and couldn't compete with Final Fantasy. The stories were good the flashbacks were amazing plus the submarine was a nice form of transport.

Part 2 had some insane puzzles including a tile flipping one that seemed nearly impossible, it also had a cool little casino.

There was a Lufia planned for the PSX that I believe ended up on the GBA. How is it?

Anyone a fan or would you like the series to continue on a next gen platform?

I second that, Lufia was a great series and Lufia II did have some hard puzzles to it :)

never played them...always wanted to. theres a ton of PSOne rpg's i still need to play :(

Sadly, I never played them because I couldn't find a place that rented them and I couldn't justify the gigantic price tags on them.

How do they compare to the Final Fantasy games?

They're quite a bit different than Final Fantasy...characters don't have as many unique abilities so combat is more basic. Graphically the Lufia games have more of an anime look than FF, and the storylines are somewhat sappy, but not overbearingly so (I quite enjoy the plots in both games). Lufia 2 has better level/puzzle design than any Final Fantasy game, and it also has a really fun bonus level that's practically a game in itself.

I liked those games a lot. I think one of the best things about them were the text ballons they spoke in, i just liked them a lot better than the standard box at the bottom of the screen that every other RPG uses.

From now on, whenever I think of an interesting game, I'm gonna make a topic before someone else does. I've always had a soft spot for the Lufia games, and I am praying to god that they make another one. I prefer the second one to the first, but that's a given, seeing as how they had so much time to fix the first one's flaws. Although it was a prequel to the first one, it still expanded on the Lufia world. Out of curiousity, did anyone manage ot finish the world's hardest puzzle without cheating?

dude, the second i saw the thread subject, i knew it was going to be lufia. you're absolutely right about lufia being underrated. i remember when lufia 2 hit the stores, i don't think any magazine had any coverage on it (except for gamepro).

needless to say, lufia is the mad dopeness. it was one of those rpg series that made me remember why i love rpgs. there was just a certain charm about it. it kinda reminds of the lunar games.

lufia 2 did have some pretty tough puzzles, but nothing i couldn't figure out on my own.

wasn't it great (and funny) when the airship got shot down by the laser when it was flying towards the last castle, and out of nowhere, it whips out with some backup jet wings. it was one of those "holy shit" moments.

I really, really enjoyed Lufia and simply loved Lufia 2. I'd say the series is among my top 5 favorite RPG series'. A Lufia for the Game Boy came out several months back but I heard it was average at best and I've seen screenshots (although no recent ones) of a Lufia on the Game Boy Advance. It would truly rock to see 'Lufia Advance' make it out over here or even another chapter in the series come to the 'Cube. But, it's best not to get my hopes too high...

As for the answer, as it it has been clearly shown, the only answer to this question is Lufia. Every other RPG on the system already gets overhyped or isn't deserving of it. Lufia II was BY FAR the most fun I had from an RPG on the system, and Lufia was an excellent "follow-up" to it (I played them backwards, as the story progressed).

Forget Chrono Trigger or FF6, it's all about Lufia II. It has many fun sidequests and the dungeons feel so much like Zelda.
