Statutory laws are complete BS in cases when there's only a year or two difference. I think it's sad how often they're used in some states by angry parents whose minor daughter was caught with an 18 year old boyfriend. Total nonsense.

If you're claiming rape, it should just be rape. A 9 month age difference is just garbage. The fact that in some places statutory can be prosecuted WITHOUT the minor's testimony at all just blows my mind.

Looks like a strict liability crime, you do it, you get caught, you're fucked. The rationale behind this is that people under 18 as a matter of law cannot consent to adult activities like sex or military service, that and enforcing societal norms (as imposed by the judge).

But this looks really harsh, I'm be surprised if this doesn't get reduced to time served on appeal. But wow, did this guy get fucked by the system. Good jorb system!

Sex, with risk, is one thing as it may involve a new life, change the next 50 years of your life, or lead to an abortion. But, a 15 year old giving a 16 or 17 year old "consentual head" and getting ten years is just ludicrous.

Should we go round up the fathers of every 15 year old that go accidentally pregnant and throw them in the can, too? They're obviously guilty. They should save room in jail for real criminals, not for horny consenting teenagers.
