Exactly what I was thinking. They use kryptonite in lightbulbs, it's not a new discovery at all.

Ummm, I'm not 100% sure but I don't think the element is "Kryptonite", I think it's Krypton.

Edit: Yeah, I'm right. Just Wikipedia Krypton.

lol yeah, Krypton is an element. Kryptonite I would assume is a crystalized form of the gas (but I don't know I never read the comics)

three's a big difference from the existence of an element, and the first discovery of the crystallized form of said element.

IE Krypton =/= Kryptonite. It's a part of it, duh, but there hadn't been the discovery of the exact form as represented by the Man of Steel comics.
