I'm sorry to hear that; I'm just glad that you both wore (almost) full gear. So are you going to be done with riding, or pick up something else somewhere down the line?
Sorry to hear that. I wanted a bike before but my med school friend told me one day in motorcycle trauma and I'd be over it. At least you didn't die!

i dunno. although this season was my first season with my own bike, i've been riding for a while. my dad has two bikes and we used to go out all the time. he's crashed a couple times on his 30+ year bike career and he still rides.
but this season im done, no way this hand will heal enough to work a clutch in time. and right now when i see a bike, any bike, that really gross feeling of losing control then crashing comes over me and i get nauseous. so signs are pointing to no biking for me at least for the next year or so.
what gear were we missing? ah, good pants? i had just ordered my armored pants and armored jacket that morning :)
we have no idea where the bike is. my insurance company is looking for it. i do have a post crash picture of my hand though :)Quote:

There will always be those who are dumb enough to ride without any gear, except for the requisite sunglasses. In Florida, helmets are not mandatory, and people from every group are equally likely to appreciate this freedom. I see it both with the cruisers and the sport bikers around here; just more of the latter since this is a college town. I saw it from the former 10x more in the last small town I lived in, while sport bike riders there were much more prone to wear gear.

Torgo ~ Are you going for physical therapy? I suggest you do. I just got into an accident on 4/23. Totaled my car. A car stopped in the passing lane and I swerved to avoid her and then lost control. I avoided every car on the NJ Turnpike, but managed to slam my car into the concrete barrier. My airbags never went off and I am now in therapy.
In May of '05 I lost control of my car in the rain, spun out and managed to flip it twice. Went from the left lane across the middle and right lane and landed some 30 feet off the highway on the exit ramp facing the opposite direction. I needed no therapy what so ever. Climbed right out as soon as the car landed. I felt like Bruce Willis.
Torgo, I'm glad you're okay. I hope that you heal up quickly and your bike isn't messed up too badly. Welcome to the "I wrecked, LOL!" club.
Wrecking is a bad reality check. It makes you realize you aren't invincible, but it really fucks with your confidence also. After my wreck, I had a hard time taking corners at any decent speed for a while. If you love biking, once you heal just get back on the horse and ride the piss out of it again.
Don't forget to buy a new helmet, they're only made to be used once.
If it makes you feel any better, I got a ticket from a cop for riding my bicycle on the sidwalk today. I never ride my bike on the sidewalk, but he caught me while i pulled onto the sidewalk of Harvard Square to grab the paper. I tried to tell him this, but cops cannot but reasoned with, mainly because they lack intelligence and can't realize I'm doing others a favor by riding a bike instead of an MV.

Glad you're ok torgo, I've been wanting to get a bike for a good long while and I've been paying attention to what to do and what not to do. Both of my parents ride (though neither have a bike right now). My dad stopped riding sport bikes about 10 years ago and only sticks with Harly's now because he values his life a little more then he used to :P My mom has been talking about getting another sports bike and when I get the money I'll probably start with a lower power model and work my way up. To make you feel better, here's some things my pop has done on a bike that most would consider stupid:
-Doing a wheelie for a mile stretch of a busy road in the middle of the day at around 80MPH
-Getting pulled over at 150mph while test-driving a bike he just worked on for a dealership he used to work for
-Running from the police (who never even had a slight chance of catching him apparently)
-Riding without protective gear (helmet only). He has a scar that runs from his right wrist all the way to the left part of his lower back from that one.
-Riding at night on back roads
-And probably the most stupid, riding completely smashed...all the time. About 20 some odd years ago he remembers about 2 or 3 different times he'd wake up in the morning all sore and beat up and go outside to find his bike totaled and never remembered wrecking it.
My mom wasn't anywhere near as exciting, she ran from the police once and didn't even know she was doing it until the guy riding with her said he started to go after them. Never did any crazy stuff like wheelies or anything but would still get her bike up to the 150-160 range. The last bike she had was a GSXR1100. That was a nice bike.
If my dad had been born about 10-15 years later he probably could've made a living out of riding bikes (he used to drag race and pull in some money from that though). The supercross thing really picked up when I was a little kid when he was already starting to wind down. As good as he was with a street bike, he was just as good with a dirt bike and could do all kinds of crazy things.
