That's close to what I said earlier. I don't entirely agree with organized religion being a terrible thing - as it is one of the best ways to catalog and teach such things - but many of the people involved shouldn't be. But really, that's going to happen no matter what the cause is. Removing religion won't stop that, it just removes an excuse for those people.

Well said. We can't let the blind sheep that listen to these morons get off free - they have some blame in this. They are almost as guilty for not seeing past all the nonsense being spouted in every direction. These people can't use their logic and mind to fight past these distractions and bring their God closer to themselves, so what good are they? They are just holding society back.

I said this like 3 months ago.

Well that comes down to what direction you wanna believe modern religion is going in. There will always be the mongrel idiot side of the population that cannot exist without these hate monger's telling them how to live their lives, and if religion was utterly wiped off the planet those people would cling to these people for other reasons than it.

But the amount of bullshit that is now being shoved down people's throats is increasing. The amount of people who really do believe that Pat Robertson has visions, that if they blow themselves up in the name of their God they'll get to fuck virgin's in heaven, and my personal favorite, that a guy who looks like the lead singer of Creed and doesn't know how to spell, is speaking to God, and God is telling him that a lot of inane and useless things are going to happen in a truly grammar flawed future.

Religion is directly responsible for this. There are more and more middlemen now. There are more and more people standing between you and your beliefs, and there are more and more people letting their beliefs be manipulated by other people more flawed then they are. Its sad, and its unfortunately a direct result of organized religion.

If you need a guy who has to launder his hate through God as his excuse to hate gays, give you the moral justification in your own mind to do the same, in a religion where hatred of any kind is not justified or condoned in any form, then I think its about time you stop and rethink some of these beliefs and how they are interpreted. Its just an example of you picking and choosing the aspects of your religion that you want to believe in the first place, which if its true, is great because that means I can find all the religions in the world that say its ok for me to make nothing of myself and sit down and play videogames for the rest of my life and then I get to go to heaven in a little rowboat, as long as I can ignore the parts of the beliefs I've chosen where I have to actually do shit.

This is the era of the value meal religion, pick your main course, choose your sides, and get your soda to go.

And you know what drives me nuts? The fact that you call some of these windbags on exactly what you said, and they'll just run to the Bible as a shield, all the while going to their flock, chastizing you, for disagreeing with them, not with God. 'But the Bible said', 'God's will is', blah blah blah. I'm asking these guys what they're saying not what God thinks, because the two aren't in line.

I really see organized religion as a societally accepted form of Scientology. It's maddening. I am really, really starting to hope 7s wanted to start a flamefest by making this thread.
