I don't even know why I'm looking forward to this game, but I'm a sucker so here goes: Moar information from this month's EGM, from 1up:
- Soul Calibur IV will run 60 frames per second(this was revealed previously).
- The amount of detail in the game will be amazing! “The leather straps on Ivy’s thighs make real-time indentations into her skin as she fights.”
- The development team is putting so much detail into the game that they are actually rendering Taki’s nipples under her leotard.
- New characters will be kept under wraps and revealed closer towards the release date.
- “Guard Impact” is back.
- Stage design is still very early in development. Make sure to take note of these screens as the game progresses.
- The stages will be far more interactive and play a bigger role in battle. They use Zasalamel’s clock tower stage as an example.
- The development team is hoping to reduce the rate of ring out victories by making stages much larger than before.
- The game will be based on the Soul Calibur III engine and will be reworked from the ground up for balance reasons.
- Patching the game is possible if any issues come up with gameplay, but “we don’t intend to make a game that needs to be patched at a later date.”
- The health gauge is going to be changed. There will be a way to beat your opponent that doesn’t involve the health gauge or ring outs.
- No tag-team play.
- In regards to Soul Calibur on the PSP: “We’re happy to hear that players would like to see Soul Calibur on the PSP, so we’ll keep that in mind.”
- The “Create A Soul” mode is getting major improvements, such as being able to change your characters voice and certain customizations that will have an effect on gameplay.
- Online custom character trading is a possibility, as well as bringing your custom character to a friend’s house.
:wtf: :wtf: :wtf: at the examples they used for the detail of the characters. Are they trying to make a creepier fighter than something like Dead or Alive or Arcana Heart? Does this mean the game will get rated AO from the ESRB because the naughty bits are physically rendered under the clothing and could be removed via a hack?
 at the no balance changes comment. Every Soul Calibur game has had multiple revisions, why would this be any different.
Online play seems to finally be a priority, welcome to the 21st century Namco (plz to be dragging AM2 into it with you).
...They would?

And :tu: with the online play. I assumed that the new Soul Calibur would have it since Tekken DR now does. Glad to see that wasnt a baseless assumption.

As any fighting game fan knows, every 2 player fighting game in the history of man(sans Karate Champ) is imbalanced in one way or another(hence tiers). Namco is also dubiously known for making small updates to their titles(Tekken5, Tekken5.1, Tekken DR), so I can't see this statement as anything other than hyperbole and fluff for the uninitiated(re: mainstream gamers).
However, I insanely respect the fact that they are trying to make a game with no discernable exploits...but with the fighting game community so tight knit(even across continents and language barriers), exploits/bugs/etc are just a forgone conclusion. The real question isnt' whether or not it'll need a patch, but "how long will it take for someone to break the game so bad that Namco is FORCED to release a patch"
They're touting the 60fps refresh rate like it's some great accomplishment. Anything less than 60fps is inexcusable to begin with. They may as well be hyping the fact that it'll be fullscreen and in color.
Never understood how they didn't get slapped with at least a mature for Taki's outfit, especially with the way the rotating win cam loves to focus in on her practically bare ass. Though looks and online play are all that matters in a fighter these days, so I'm sure this will be a big seller.
Scans please.
I guess we'll see the effect of cold stages on taki's nips thanks to the power of the PS3/360. Maybe she'll have a new hard nipple eye gouge move.
The old SC games were pretty blatant about Taki's popcorn, at least in the CG cinemas.
I'm suprised those horny Japs weren't doing that already.Quote:

The first part of the comment is an awesome tidbit for the people that play fighting games and know how they work, the second part is so that the people that don't then don't flip out and start complaining about how developers are getting lazy and releasing unfinished games.
Personally I think all that stuff sounds good and all, but no matter what features they list I won't really feel any particular way about the game until I sit down and play it. SC3 shook me enough to not entirely trust them, though I still want to give it a shot.
This game is going to be amazing.
I'm surprised this has been overlooked. While it could just be a gimmicky, subtle detail, it could also foreshadow some pretty big advancements in character animation.
To make sure this is utilized properly, I demand a white tee outift for Taki, that's mandatory on all stages with water features.Quote:

I hope this means something like the stages from DOA. While not always the most balanced thing, I think DOA is the only series to make any real advancement in 3D stages and stage interaction. I think the Soul Calibur series could even go a step further (which is saying a lot, since other companies really need to catch up first)...imagine Astaroth using some df+B move to launch a loose boulder off the ground towards Mitsurugi, who times a perfect vertical strike to cleave it in half mid-air, all with real time physics (wait...just like Tekken Ball...). Or better yet, with all these giant weapons swinging around, I want them knocking the support beams out of ancient temples and bringing the whole roof down.Quote:

That's fine, ring outs are cheesy. I like how they affect character placement and strategy, but I think that can be achieved other ways, like the hazardous or disadvantaged areas in a DOA stage.Quote:

Funny to bullet something you won't have, but I guess enough series have gone that way that people might assume it's a natural addition if a series goes on long enough.Quote:
No tag-team play.
This is cool I guess, but I wouldn't bother coming up with new animations for all the custom characters. They just weren't worth learning ultimately if they couldn't be used "competitively". Although I was really impressed by all the extra content, in the end everyone I knew just stuck to the main styles, or a made a custom and gave it a main character's moveset. I think that, plus the tweaks they're describing (maybe character size, density, speed, and damage modifiers that all balance each other out) should be enough.Quote:

I've used ninja and katana/shrunken competitively a number of times. Hell Arthur was pretty up there as well.
Well yes. I meant legal in "tournament" play. All of the ones I went to didn't allow custom characters, or even the pre-set character with each custom style (Greed, Valerie, etc)...but it's not like I was at Evo or something, so I don't know what the official word on that was. I haven't played in while, but I seem to recall there being at least 1 or 2 moves per custom style that were entirely abusable.
They were fun, but still didn't seem like fully fleshed out characters.
It's a shame that they were never supported. I could only imagine the type of matches to come from that alone would be pretty interesting.
New scans and details from July's EGM.

Holy shit, Ivy's pratically naked now.
I like Nightmare and Siegfreid's new look, though.
I am now looking forward to this game. It actually looks like they're trying with this one.
My first thought, due to the use of the word "saber", was some Star Wars characters, but that wouldn't fit very well with the setting, so then I started wondering what major, popular film series would... then it came to me...Quote:
We've heard that some phenomenally popular saber-rattlers from a major film series may be joining the cast... stay tuned to 1up.com for the exclusive reveal.
OMFG JACK SPARROW
...so, has Namco been known to do business with either of those studios?
I want realtime cuts, injuries, wounding, etc & armour-breaking. It doesn't have to be ultra-violent, just realistic enough. but I doubt we'll get that. from the scans I saw, it doesn't look that much better than SC II or III, but I'll reserve judgement til I see SCIV in motion.
No more outside characters. Link, Spawn, Heihachi, Necrid, fuck that shit. Yoshimitsu is only okay because he's been there since SC. Or at least include a "disable shitty characters" function. PS1 Tekken 3 needed this very badly.
I'll usually be the first to whine about how bad SC's designs got following the first, but they improved Tira a whole lot. I never thought I'd be able to stand looking at her. I'm impressed.
Sine they're still doing the create a character the game will probably suck.
It looks like it'll be awesome fun.
But I guess if they balance it towards the character feature and not the other way around, that would be cause for worry.
And that would be about as dumb as you could be.
SC2 gameplay-style Ivy, pls.
Yeah, why don't we have this yet? We've finally got realistic body dmg in racing games (and yes, I know it's been there since last gen) and crazy-interactive environments in FPS's. Bushido Blade was (sorta) on this track. Can anybody think of anything that comes close to realtime cuts/injuries/wounding?
Soul Calibur + rude titties = top seller.
Not that I'm complaining or anything, but why do all the female's tits keep getting bigger with every iteration of this game?
Taki had a nice set of B's in the original Soul Edge which became C's in Soul Calibur. Then SC2 came along and all of a sudden she had a pair of jiggletastic D's.
Ivy had a reasonable rack for a woman her height in every game, now the things are bigger than her head.
And wasn't Tira flat chested in SC3? I guess that change is acceptable since was 15 (16?) then and has aged since then.
To my knowledge the only SC women who haven't had surgery are Kilik...I mean Sueng Mina, The Sisters, Xiunghua and Voldo.........oh, wait.
New Ivy is fan-tastic, though these games' idea of boob-physics is pretty bizarre.
The Wii game is going to be terrible.
Because Japan's idea of female character design has been tending more and more to "enormous jugs" over the last few years. I never thought I'd reach the point where I'd say that enough is enough, cut it out, and yet here we are.
James
Maybe, I don't know.
Japan's? It's not like huge breasts have been a part of western comic art for the past couple decades or so...
Still, I bet a big part of it is the increase in polygon count. You can't make a very big, round shape with few polygons, so gals back in the day had to settle for modest busts. Technology upgrades and they're able to render closer to the original concept. Besides, Namco's character illustrator draws them bigger then they appear in the game (seems like most people are reacting to the concept art more than the in-game); I don't think SC is too bad overall.
Ivy - Huge, but appropriate to the character. I actually think her thicker look is pretty hot, but it doesn't seem to show so much in game as it did in that one scan. Taki - really big, and not really appropriate to the character. Pretty cheesecake, in the same vein as Mai Shiranui. Everyone else seems pretty tame by character design standards. By normal human standards, even Sophitia and Seung Mina are suspect, but we're going for idealised beauty here.
I like that at least they have different body types, and I wouldn't mind more variety in that regard. Not just in bust size and hair color, but different hip, shoulder, thigh, and waist proportions. Compared to something like DOA, where the men are pretty varied, but the gals all seem about the same except for cosmetic differences.
Oddly, the original DOA was jugalicious to the point of absurdity. DOA2 and 3 followed a progressive downward sizing of the busts, but it jumped back up again for 4. I agree totally about the same body types, which only gives them more of a feeling of plastic dolls.
And Mai is the one who started it all. Ninja slut.
Did a quick check. Amazing what you'll find on Wikipedia.
Turns out she is from the Philipines. So technically she is Southeast Asian (or Pacific Islander depending on who you ask).
Looks good, Ivy gets a :tu: from me, the nastier the better (do not want the hair though).
I know this was answered, but for reference:

Well then I'm almost 100% with you on that, cept that I'd like to see Ivy's moveset for her SC3 whip stance added so it still has purpose.
As long as Sophitia is in, Taki's titties bounce like crazy, and has Ivy as a fat whore, I'm in. God, I love Soul Calibur so much.
It's heartless meanies like you that cause young girls the nation over to suffer from bulemia.
'sides, Ivy ain't fat, she jus' got sum mo'fuckin' curves an' shit, dude nigga.
Yeah, and Ivy's retarded moveset in SC3 fucking ruined her. She was a pure pleasure to use in SC2.
How is she chubby? Do you guys really prefer girls that have the bodies of 12 year-old boys more?
You can tell Japanese guys don't, 'cause you don't see them designing ass-less, breast-less, hip-less characters of the sort that normally inhabits Japan.
White women prefer to have that body type, Aurora's just trying to think like they do.

New exclusive video of Ivy:
http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/13068
Go to the 8:25 mark. Ivy is shown fighting a mysterious new character, a chick in armor wielding a spear-tipped flag pole and a shortsword.
Quite interesting, looks like they're putting a lot of care into this.
I don't think I agree much with the need for guest characters though, it's usually more lame than cool, depending on the characters ofcourse. If they had to make exclusive guest characters for each version, I would have to say Jago from KI for the 360 and obviously Kratos would be a strong choice for the PS3.
<3 Sophitia and her huge giant milky titties!
Milky is an understatement.
Alot of these outfits are pretty open for some easy tit-fucks
lol
I don't understand why Namco doesn't just print the porn comics themselves and cut out the middle man.
Japan has more then enough hentai to cover it.
The guy that does the character illustrations for Namco is amazing.
I saw Sophita's outfit in a porn once. And yeah those boobs are awesome for titty-fucks.
This game looks fucking incredible. Pisses all over VF5 and DOA4. Oh, and Tekken 6.
WOWOWOWOWOWOWWO.

She's got a pretty big cock bulge in that pic.
tranny calibur confirmed
I vote Industrial Meat Curtains.
I'm glad they're working on having the straps make actual indentations in the flesh, yet we still have mystical floating shields. Ancient magnetics at work?
It's a buckler, it buckles to the arm. (Magnetically apparently)

So uh....wow. Can't say I was expecting this....Could be interesting.
what the fuck
Ackbar traps or no sale.
Soul Calibur 4 is going to be amazing. I have no real opinion about the Star Wars guys, but I wish they would have at least giving them medieval versions of their outfits...I mean, I guess Yoda's just wearing a robe, but Vadar's beep-boop buttons look outdated even for SC.
what the fluffernutter
"be aware, BEWARE... ITS A TRAP!!! KO, I TOLD YOU IT WAS A TRAPPPP"
What the hell?
