To its credit, I like GTA3 MUCH more than the matrix. If I did my job as poorly as Keaunu Reeves does his, I'd surely be fired, yet he makes millions of dollars. What a topsy-turvy world we live in.

It might have something to do with the "I don't like it because it's popular" mentality some people have around here.
Out of all of the things that change, I would have to say the complexity and overall difficulty of the missions is the one thing that really stands out. In the beginning all you do is "drive me to point a then bring me to point b" type missions. They exist for the sole purpose of getting you acquainted with the game. After that, things start to get interesting, and you begin to see where the game's nonlinearity comes into to play.Quote:

You're given an objective, and how you go about completing it is completely up to you.
For example, there is a mission later on in the game in which you must blow up an airplane in mid flight and pick up the cargo it leaves behind, after you do so, you must deliver the cargo to one of your bosses at the other end of town.
Now this may sound easy, but the presence of local law enforcement coupled with interference from the FBI makes getting to Point B a little difficult.
Now, you could simply drive to your destination, and deal with the feds and their road blocks, or you could be sneaky and dive into the subway and take the train to a location that is closer to the drop off point, or instead of taking the train, you could just drive your car through the tunnels. But the way I like to tackle this mission is by stealing a small biplane and flying towards my objective, completely circumnavigating any interference.
You see, the game tells you what you need to do, but how you go about in it's execution is completely up to you.

I love GTA 3, but clone are going to have to take it to the next level...Somehing like a mix of a deeper real world (like Hitman for the PC) and deeper driving (Like Driver. Okay, it isn't terribly deeper, but you know what i mean.

I haven't been critical of the game, I only said I think it is overated. There are plenty of games, even recent ones, that have grabbed my attention in the first few hours. GTA3 did not. Once I replace my PS2 I'll give it another chance, but for now I'm deathly tired of this game. I've never unwillingly watched people play a game as much as I have GTA3.Quote:

The missions are a lot of fun and all that, but I think for a lot of people its the other stuff that makes them enjoy the game. One main reason killing innocent people, causing havoc, and not having to run from the cops. Its stuff you have always wanted to do in a game but never could because it was never executed very well. Plus its all th exploration, finding cool things to jump and such. People will play this game for hours on end and not touch a single story mission. And by the way GTA3 and Marrowind are two completly different experiances. Sure both of them try to make it feel like a real world, but both are done differently. And I think GTA3 is waaaaay better then the first two, I hate the first 2. GTA was meant to be in 3D like this. The first two are very boring (and I have thought this ever since they came out), and unintresting. But when GTA came to 3D everything changed. I don't know why it just did. Play GTA3 now, you'll thank me later.
