MGM also released a very nicely remastered version not too long ago as part of their Midnight Movies DVD line.
There's a pretty decent version on one of those AMC 20-movies for $15 sets.

I'm actually suprised MGM went to the trouble of cleaning up and restoring the movie as pristinely as they did, but hey, that's the version I ended up buying ($10, with a second movie on the disc). The movie's that good.
Yeah, I originally got it because someone I knew told me it was hilariously low budget, but I came out really loving it. Thanks for the heads up, I may look into a copy of the MGM version.
Last Man on Earth is definitely better then I Am Legend.
A friend of mine put it best. I Am Legend is really a remake of Omega Man, not really an attempt to do the book right. Last Man on Earth is by far the closest to the original book.

The scene where Samantha dies was great and so was the one where he chased Sam into the building and saw the room full of zombies breathing. The rest was awful. The CGI was terrible. How about...ACTORS omg!
I'm glad I read the book after I saw the movie, because I would have walked away very upset. This movie was just like I Robot, in which they kept some basic concepts, then decided to run wild and do what ever the fuck they wanted.
