So if the gas station would have been a Shell and he would have had a Zune and a Cingular phone instead, you'd have been alright? When you carry around your cell phone, stop at a gas station, or wear your favorite name brand shirt do you feel like you're in a real life advertisement/commercial? Its all around us in real present day life. Why wouldnt they try to put some semblance of it, in a movie thats supposed to be near present real life?Quote:

I liked the movie, honestly I got my friends to goto it with: Lets go watch Will Smith fuck another scifi great in the ass and have laugh. For Hollywood it was very good. I agree the CGI did break the suspension of disbelief but and the advertising was annoying, but what did you expect out of American cinema, a respectful and moving adaptation of sci-fi?

i just got back from seeing this in an imax theater. i like will smith, and i thought he did a fine job in this movie. his emotional scenes were done very well. i wish the cgi had been better. plus, i wish movies would hide the big bad scary thing in the dark more, like back in the original alien movie. the less the audience can see the creepier it is. the infected were pretty freaky in that one building scene where his dog runs off, 'cause they were masked by the darkness and were never fully visible until will smith went out a window and poof! a few infected are writhing in the sunlight for all to see - not quite so scary anymore.
the scenes that show what happens to his family could've been condensed into fewer flashbacks. it doesn't need to be that spread out. and why was he only driving the sports car around at the beginning? other than that it was always the suv. oh, and as for the product placement stuff, i'm kind of oblivious to brand names. at the end of the movie i couldn't tell you what the sports car or the suv or anything was. i didn't know they were fords until my friend started talking about it during the drive home. haha i'm like the ultimate worst consumer for product placement advertising. "so, how did i am legend affect your opinion of verizon?" "huh? verizon what?"
i really liked the bits of newspaper clippings and what not they showed. i thought those were cool. and some of the posters were nifty, like the batman-superman one.
some of the plot was easy to see coming. it was sad to see neville so loving with his dog knowing that the dog wouldn't survive the movie. 'cause what's the worst thing that could happen to neville? his dog dying. but even knowing it was coming, it was still really sad when it happened. will smith did a great job of making that event (and the following scenes up until the end of his suicide run) heartbreaking. however, considering how cautious neville usually is, it seems dumb that he'd be so careless around a mannequin that 'moved itself' outside. it felt out of character. i always get annoyed when writers make a character do stuff 'cause it's needed for the plot and not 'cause it's what the character would actually do.
and i agree that the movie is really great for like the first 3/4 up until he totals the suv and the woman shows up. her and her kid and the "god has a plan" and the survivor's colony were all hackneyed crap. i do have to say that in the event of an actual world-killing plague, there would be people immune and if it got to be apocalyptically bad then it seems likely there would be military outposts for survivors or something, but fuck reality. for the emotional impact the movie should've been going for, number of survivors = will smith.
and the dark knight preview was awesome! yay!!

The amount of cheap scares this movie goes for is ridiculous. I'm all for shit jumping out and/or screaming, but marking the transition between flashback and realtime with a lull of background noise snapped by Will Smith slamming a cabinet is a little gratuitous.
So far as I know, Apple does no advertising in movies. Unless it's a movie coming from a company having a direct link to a computer product line (Sony Pictures, for example), more often than not the computers you see in movies are Macs. Probably either due to that's what the people putting the movie together want to use, or because Macs typically have a very distinct visual style to them.Quote:
