I love Seaman! I don't know why, but everytime I go back to it, it's like playing it for the first time all over again. The soft visuals, the simulated "life," the smart-ass remarks of a being who isn't really alive yet somehow seems to be able to piss you off. It's great! Unfortunatly, Vivarium has disappeared into obscurity. From what I can tell, they have no new projects in development, and if they do they aren't talking.

This is the kind of innovation the industry needs. Something no one has ever seen before. Something no one thought possible.

Rain down postiveness for Seaman! Show your affections for that fish-taled bastard!

i got this game the day it came out and my family always thought i was weird for talking to a game until they actually watched for a while and saw that he was actually responding :) whatever happened to the ps2rev? did it ever come out?

I heard Seaman 2 for the DC was gonna be online. I know Seaman did extremely well in Japan, so I'm surprised a sequel never came out for any system.

I still haven't played Seaman. I haven't wanted to risk buying it in case I don't like it. It is completely original and I probably will buy it some time.

Is the interaction with Seaman just a gimmick or does he actually differentiate between sounds?

He can differentiate between sounds, and he'll say so if he doesn't understand. Most of the interactions come from his questions, though. But sometimes you get to initiate conversation. Here's an example:

You: "Talk to me" or "Say something."
Seaman: "Fine. You're a pain in the ass! How's that?"

I love how much of a smart ass he is. I recall an interview with Yoot Saito wherein he said something to the effect of, "I want everyone to hate Seaman (the character, not the game)." So he did his damndest to have Seaman be as abrasive as possible.

He can also make the distinction between the tone of voice in a question and in a statement. Here's another example:

You: Hello.
Seaman: Hi.

You: Hello?
Seaman: Comming, your majesty.

I borrowed it from a friend back when it first came out, I finished it in a weekend by messing with the DC's internal clock.

I didn't feel like waiting a month.

Anyway, I like this game a lot, even though it is lacking in some areas, it's still a fun experience.

It's always fun to tell him lies, and see his get angry at you.



I bought it a few weeks ago, but I still haven't opened it.

I remember when he first took a shit in the tank and I made some comment on it, so he said something like "here's another to wash it down" and fired a second one. Very funny stuff!:jest:

The game is great, but the fact that everything he says is pre-recorded kinda kills it. They are going to have to do some serious logic and voice recognition/generation stuff for the next one.

Crazy, crazy stuff. I never went through it a second time...

I remember I almost had a nervous breakdown when I couldn't figure out why the mositure or whatever it was dropped to 0.0....

Damn rock was covering the sprinkler...

Definitely a game my friends got a kick out of, too.
