There have been loads of repros/airsoft guns over the years, I'm not sure Japan can make a real one legally.
That's been out for quite some time. I think if anything the "new" aspect might be that it's an assembled kit. If you check out the Tested youtube channel they did a video all about Adam Savage's obsession with the Bladerunner gun and the versions he's made and bought over the years (including that one).

The Blade Runner gun isn't even that cool! I can understand an obsession over the gun from Logan's Run, but Blade Runner? I'm more fired up about the breathing briefcase.
