So I hooked my ps2 up to my HDTV and boy did it look like crap. Even with the component adapter.
So I am in the market for a TV for "classic gaming" this is from nes to xbox 1. My question is has anyone had any experiece with enhanced defintion TVs (480p max) ?
Does older content like the nes and snes look like pewp or do EDTV's display 480i resolution and less (what res do snes and nes run at anyways?) games well?
EDTVs (assuming CRT) should display SD content perfectly fine. Even HD CRTs display SD content in agreeable form.
Good luck finding one that isn't a 15" LCD. I'd just look around for a Sony SDTV, most retailers around here had a few up until recently, every other SDTV on the market today is cheap garbage.
I was hoping to get ED just for the few games that support that. There are a few ps2 games and I think all xbox games support 480p at the very least.
I had a hard time finding a tv that could output 480p without being a full blown HDTV, but as long as it's CRT it should look good with new and old stuff.
If you don't mind getting gently used stuff, check out your local craigslist. When I was TV shopping, there were dozens of great, cheap CRTs on there that were being dumped by people who had recently bought HDTVs.

I have this flat screen CRT from Samsung I got about 3 years back, plays SD game consoles amazingly. I'll check the model number when I get home and get back to you on it, see if you can find another one like it.
That would be sweet. The problem I see right now is how hard these things are to find in retail, in addition to how much they cost for what you get.
In a way it seems like the LCD/Plasma/DLP market has destroyed the CRT/Tube market. Even though the latter has better picture quality in standard definition content, which is still the most widely used.
Probably is the consumers fault, in the end we decide what succeeds and fails, even if it is an inferior product.
Have you tried putting everything non-Sony on a modded Xbox and running that through 720p/1080i? I loved that as it made everything both easier to deal with and looked a lot better, although the initial setup can be a bit of a pain in the ass.Quote:

The TV I have is a DynaFlat series of Samsung CRT's, though the one in the link above is a few inches bigger than the one I have, which is 22 inches. It has 2 regular composite inputs, an S-video input, and one component in for anything you have that supports progressive scan. I've been using mine for SNES, Saturn, and N64 games with great results.
