UK terror threat at Critical

A lot to do about terrorism and suicide bombers has to do with sexual repression, mainly caused by polygyny in the middle east. It's not us, its a state of living the oppression of the poor through sex, power, and money that causes such an uneasy and unstable environment for these people to live in.

Getting out of the M.E. is the worst thing we could do. As long as the M.E. remains a backward world where ppl are poor, uneducated, and frustrated, they will continue to turn to radical Islam to explain the world for them and give them a target for their frustration/rage.

The solution, in my uneducated opinion, is to stay in contact w/the M.E. and do everything we can to bring connectivity and all its benefits (commerce, education, health, wealth, hope) to the region. Obviously thats a generations-long prospect but in the end, it's totally worth it. They get globalization and the promise of a better life; we get a world w/o radical Islam. Because there's no way radical Islam can survive in an entreprenurial M.E. where ppl are more concerned with making money (and, like Lt. Eckhart, thinking about the future) than they are w/staying religiously pure.

The_Meach: What about those latest terrorists? They were all doctors, not uneducated or poor. Osama Bin Laden was from Saudi Arabia, and he was filthy stinking rich. It seems radical islam also thrives in entrepreneurial societies.

Also, look at how long we tried to invest time and effort into Palestine, and they are worse off than ever.

While states like Quatar, Oman, Kuwait and the Emerates speak well of this philosophy you've also got beasts like Saudi Arabia to deal with, where you've got one insanely wealthy tribe controling the state and factions of said tribe funding the fundamentalists as they feel that is the "right" thing to do.

This is a great point, and gives the lie to the claim that poverty is to blame (which is NOT what I am saying; globalization brings wealth, yes, but most importantly it brings rule-sets and basically says: "You want globalization and all it's benefits? Cool. First start by following these economic rules (no state-run economy), these social rules (free your wimmenz), and these political rules (no genocide, etc.)").

NY Times columnist Tom Friedman had a recent article on this. Why would well educated, wealthy, young Muslims turn into radical murderers? This flies in the face of everything we've been taught about the Palestinian conflict (suicide bombers are made that way b/c of cruel occupation - and that may hold true in the West Bank, but Mohammed Atta, Osama, Zarqawi, and the latest fucks in Britain were not, in any way, oppressed by Israelis).

So, why do these non-oppressed Muslims turn to radical Islam?
