Well the laws are technically there to protect the child from living in forced poverty. The problem is how one sided things seem to be getting. Although this is in Britain, so who knows what the fuck's even going on over there most of the time. It doesn't seem like congress is going to pass this under the same reasoning people here are taking issue with it.

It's difficult to invalidate the entire case if the defendant/father was properly served, unless you've got clear-cut evidence of fraud. In a lot of these cases, fraud isn't all that easy to prove ("I swear, judge, this was his last known address!"). The problem is that few states have laws that protect victims of paternity fraud. As these articles show, most states make it cripplingly difficult if not outright impossible for victims to recover their losses.

We need tougher state criminal statutes punishing paternity fraud, and more prosecutors willing to pursue them.
