This movie must rock, my buddy who hates going to the movies is taking me and my gf to see it. It will be his third time.
After seeing it, and as far as the 'where it came from':
At the end, while they're at Coney Island and the camera is looking out at the ocean, just before Rob turns the camera to himself, something falls out of the sky and into the ocean. Pay attention to near the horizon line on the right side of the screen.
Saw the midnight showing on thurs, and again this morning. I actually preferred the camera this way (for this movie, at least) didn't bother me at all.
Yes, I saw that as well. It came from the ocean, hence the earthquake
Just got back from watching it, it's godzilla minus the silliness. Very Very good flick.
Spoilers alert, here is the best rendition of the monster to date
I was pretty psyched about this to begin with, but as time went by I just found myself getting more irritated by every TV spot I saw. Not too excited and not expecting a lot, but I'm probably going to see it tonight.
I bet you come back impressed.
This stuff's not even technically a spoiler. Most of the Slusho/Tagruato backstory is available on the internet and was meant as the actual backstory of the movie so that (my guess) they didn't have to hamper a 1-and-a-half hour thrill ride with a ton of explanation. But, with this way, those that WANT background have it readily available.
Anyways, most of this info I found collected at http://slusho.suburbohemia.com/ and http://www.cloverfieldclues.com I'll go through what I know just in case people don't know.
Slusho- Uses a flower found by Ganu Yoshida on the sea floor as a secret ingredient. His mother, Noriko, was searching for this perfect ingredient before she disappeared and was presumed dead at sea. Ganu's brother took over her soft drink operation, as Ganu had no interest and ended up as head at Tangruato. When the flower was found, Ganu suddenly had a change of heart and made Slusho with his brother. Slusho is cold because the secret ingredient always needs to be frozen. Something might happen if it is warmed. From what I understand, this is actually said in the movie so... Thus, this tasty, hallucinogenic flower may be the monster's eggs. However, this was also revealed through logic by looking at the websites online.
There's all sorts of other stuff about Jamie Lascano (who IS in the movie) and her boyfriend that involve the backstory, too. That's the "jamielovesteddy" site (password: jllovesth). If you watch the videos, you eventually see the results of how the ingredient influences a human being. Creepy shit.
...and I haven't even seen the movie yet. Criminy.
Also, have a translated Cloverfield manga: http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com...ranslated.html
The monster is clearly from outer space. You see it splash down in the final piece of video.
Edit:
I see Deus covered this already.
Anyway, it was better than I thought it would be. Hud is awesome.
WHAT'S THAT?!
That's something terrible.
I don't think I'll ever need to see it again though. BTW the last line of monster-time video was so cheesy, I don't know if I like it or not.
