Police: Boy Forced into Sex with Mom

I propose something else: Lighten the sentences for convicted drug felons (or reduce penalties to very high fines - no pun intended) and lock away the people who really belong in prison - violent criminals.

Our judicial system is so fucked up we'll put away a guy who had 2 lbs of pot for 20 years, but give a rapist/murderer a somewhat comprable sentence, but then let the bastard out for "good behavior". Gee I wonder if he's going to do it again?

Last year there was a string of reports about girls and little children being assaulted by previously convicted sex offenders who got out early. Some asshole really thought these guys would be rehabilitated. "Rehabilitated is just a made up word (TY Shawshank Redemption). There's this thing called behavioral science and it is based on this logic: Past behaviors is a good indicator/predictor of future behavior.

What's worse: Getting stoned or killing someone?

Want to read a few crazy stories about people whose lives were unfairly ruined because they dealt or grew a little pot while rapists and murderers walk free? Go pick up a copy of Reefer Madness by Eric Schlosser. It's a book about the underground economy of the U.S. and there's a big section on marijuana and a lot of the stupid, crazy laws surrounding it.

My dad was railroaded by the FBI for fraud when he was the one who was initially defrauded. The justice system is very ugly when it doesn't work right.

People wonder why I hate cops, judges, and lawyers.

What's equal justice for a sadistic rape/torture that destroys the life of a woman and her family? The rapist getting set free to possibly rape again while the original victim still hasn't even recovered? Doesn't sound like justice to me.

I don't think I should decide. I think the victim should. I've known a couple women that were raped and it destroyed almost every aspect of their lives. One of them is in prison right now for attempting to kill her rapist and the rapist is free after 5 years served with good behavior. The other is in an assisted living program because she attempted suicide after her fiancee dumped her upon finding out she was raped in the past (damaged goods and all that).

Retribution is a stupid reason for anything. Caveman justice isn't really very ethically defensible.

I know a little more about rape than you do, since I was a victim of it (maybe now you understand the jail comment a little better). You are going to be damaged from it, and it is going to fuck up the rest of your life. However, it doesn't have to own you. It informs who you are - it's not who you are - and all that.

So when you ask me if I think life in prison is the appropriate punishment I can stand on firm ground when I say yes.
