Click and Point Adventure Games

I've recently begun remembering about games I used to play on PC... the sort where you would click and the character would move about. The point was always to find items for later use to solve puzzles. You might find a piece of a ladder then later on their would be a broken ladder that would require that item.

Has this genre completely vanished or has it simply evolved? I remember Discworld for the Playstation as this same type of game, and that was the last I played.

I'm talking about King's Quest, Space Quest, hell even Leisure Suit Larry... those type of games. They were pretty awesome.

If you keep an eye out on ebay, you might find the whole set for Monkey island.

What I'm trying to say is that I never see them on consoles, or if they are on consoles, they are swept under the rug totally missing any gaming sites.

Thanks for describing the genre for us. Because, you know, TNL is collectively unknowledgable about gaming history and all.

Poor presentation on the thread, but I get what you're saying.

Really it's somewhat evolved, as Neoz talked about, they're putting more action elements inside of the games without as much focus on just puzzles and figuring out what to do. For some games this has worked (Shenmue as Neoz put it) and others it was really trying to be forced to meet the standards "set" by other games (Dreamfall and it's clunky combat).

I don't know much about the genre as I wasn't really into it as a child unfortunately, so I can't elaborate too much, was moreso reiterating what Neoz said in the other threads.

But yes it's moreso evolved unfortunately.

Check out the new Sam and Max Episodes from Telltale Games. It's the closest they've come to the genre's heyday since.

As were Shenmue I and II, Escape from Monkey Island, the new Leisure Suit Larry game, Indigo Prophecy, Lost in Blue, Hotel Dusk (which I'm selling btw), and...others.

yeah I forgot to elaborate more on the evolution of the genre before that sentence.

Trace memory and Hotel Dusk imo. Probably the closest thing to it at the moment, but still not exact. Even so, Cing makes some pretty good games in that vein.
