Official Ron Paul for President 2008 Thread

All's I'm saying is, no matter what grassroots manages to do, corporate media can destroy it. At least as long as the TV exists.

I was around for a number of Dean meetups once upon a time. Lots of good momentum, lots of good hype, positive directions, the whole bit. A lot of people put a ton of really good work into the campaign, really inspiring stuff. He was going to be the guy.

One sound byte gets run into the ground, by cable news, by radio, and a week or two later, everybody's packing up shop.

So, fuck it. There's no getting around the media machine, especially as this is a democratic system. There are more people watching (and listening to) the damned tube than you'll ever get into all the indy coffee houses in all of the country. If the tube doesn't know about it, it doesn't fucking exist. Ron Paul does not exist.

You're right, except that with each passing day, the "tube" in question loses a little more ground to a certain other "tube." We're at most 20 years from the latter "tube" wielding more power than the former.

Won't make a huge difference this election cycle (the internet being pretty bad about voting), but 2012 possibly.

Ron Paul just won 3 state straw polls and got minor coverage. I agree it will be an uphill fight, YellerDog, but the media is quickly learning they can't ignore Ron Paul. What will happen now is exactly what happened to Dean -- they'll just mock his chances. When that doesn't work they'll fight him with smear campaigns (Dean). That might work.

That Hannity guy ran a poll recently that Ron Paul won. He accused the Ron Paul-ites of rigging the poll despite the fact that you could only vote once. And even if you managed to find a way to circumvent the safe guards the "1st tier" candidates should have had 10x the amount of people trying to do the same thing for them.

The whole media situation is fucked.

He can't help who supports him. The Duke-types like him because he'd cut aid to Israel - but he'd end it to all countries in fact. It's not like there's confederate flags waving or skinheads marching at his rallys. I'm sure there's a black nationalist or two supporting Obama, even though he may not be black enough for some of them.

Either way, we have a couple of well known black libertarians who's names have been tossed around as possible VP's. That should weed out some people. Plus, are black voters more likely to go for a half-black pres, or an all black VP? If we're lucky we may find out.

No, I realize it's an uphill battle. But I think quite frankly it's the mainstream media and the Republican Party who are a bit naive. We're not gobbling up the candidates they've told us we can vote for and more and more people are discovering Ron Paul. Even if he doesn't get the nomination, he's waking people up and really bringing everyone together. In all likely-hood, I think if the Republican candidate is Rudy McRomney, the Dems will win easy.

This was our Ron Paul booth at a huge fair. All volunteer staffed, all paid for by donations.

At the end of the month, hundreds of volunteers will be putting up signs (on highway overpasses, wherever) in states throughout the US. The idea is to do them overnight so commuters see them on Monday morning before they are taken down.

Bump to remind all of you to vote for this man. He is the greatest living American. GQ just named him one of the Men of the Year.

What I dislike about RP is that he wants to limit what cases the supreme court can hear. I'm also curious to what kind of justices he'd appoint.

Made a small donation today and I've registered as a Republican so I can vote for Paul in the primary--I'd otherwise "decline to state" 'cause I think the parties are fucking stupid but this is one way I can help.

Going back home for Thanksgiving and I'm gonna see if there's any interest in Ron Paul. Where I grew up is typically Republican territory, conservative, rural, gun-totin'. It'll be interesting to see what the perception is outside my normal life.

Ron Paul is really the dream candidate for my parents who are Libertarian Conservatives and don't even realize it. But they buy into the major news outlet idea that he's a crackpot, loser candidate for internet nerds without even looking at what he stands for.

My parents can be a bit dense sometimes.
